Chapter 47: My Roommate
It was the history teacher who walked in earlier, his pale, wrinkled face expressionless as he lectured them on the origins of the vampires. After droning on for almost a couple hours about bloodline s, ancient wars, and the founding of the Arcane Council, he left the class without so much as a glance back.
Uche somehow found the class interesting as the teacher talks about vampires wars and so on.
Another teacher replaced him immediately, conducting a second lecture on vampire traditions and societal laws. Only after that were they allowed a break for lunch before returning for martial arts practice, which would take up the rest of the day.
"It seems being a new student here is really tough."
Uche sat at one corner in the cafeteria, staring at the plate of grilled meat and a cup of blood in front of him. He could feel countless killer gazes all directed at him, and it was making him feel uncomfortable. Uche didn't want to get into any fight of some sort, doing all his best to protect himself as Mira had said, but it seemed impossible.
He could see Eric slowly walking up to him with a devilish smile, a group of five boys behind him.
"Hey half-blood trash, that's my seat you're on, I think you'll have to get up,"
Eric said with a smile.
Uche stared at them for a couple of seconds, then shook his head, stood up, carried his tray of food, and walked past them. But before he could completely walk past, the boy at the end of the group put his leg in the way, causing him to trip in the middle of the cafeteria, throwing his food tray away in the process. Everyone started laughing at him as he fell.
"Hey Elion, you should have moved your leg away,"
Eric said to the boy who had put his leg in the way for Uche.
"Oh, sorry, I only thought he was dumb, I didn't know he was also blind,"
Elion said, laughing.
'If this continues, I'll only become the bullies' target and the trash of the school. I can't take it.'
Uche thought in his mind as he slowly stood up, rage boiling within him.
He picked up his food tray, then turned around in one swift motion, swinging the tray as hard as he could, aiming it at Elion, who was laughing with great joy, unaware of the tray moving towards him with deadly precision.
"Elion, watch out!!!"
Someone shouted from the back, seeing Uche swing the tray at Elion, unaware.
But before the tray could hit Elion and possibly break on his head, a hand came out of nowhere and stopped the tray for him.
"Mr. Richard?"
Uche muttered, surprised as he saw the person who had stopped the tray for Elion, and with a single finger at that.
'What type of strength is this?'
Mr. Richard thought, as it felt like his finger was about to break after stopping the tray for Elion.
"My students are not allowed to fight among themselves. Go get another food and sit elsewhere,"
Mr. Richard said, pushing the tray back to Uche. Then he turned to Elion, who had rage scattered across his face. He stared at him for a few seconds and said.
"Fighting is not tolerated in the cafeteria, there's a grave punishment for that."
He then turned to all the students in the cafeteria and said,
"There won't be a martial arts class today, and I'll be going out now. You all should train by yourselves, our weekly duel is tomorrow."
With that, he left the cafeteria, tension hanging in the air.
'Why is it always this man? He always comes whenever I want to fight back,'
Uche thought. Earlier in the class, he was about to throw a punch at Eric before the man stepped in, and now again.
"Do you really think you could injure me with that tray? And with that clumsy skill of yours, ehn?"
Elion said, moving closer to Uche with rage written on his face, his palm already turned into a fist. But before he could do anything, Eric stopped him.
"Hey hey, you heard what Richard said, I think we should leave him till martial arts class,"
Eric said as he dragged Elion away.
"Bunch of idiots,"
Uche muttered, and he walked back to the counter to get another tray of food for himself.
---
The martial arts class was immediately after lunch, and Mr. Richard was the martial arts teacher, but he claimed that he wouldn't be available for today's class. The students were left to train by themselves.
Uche walked into the martial arts training room with a surprised look on his face. The training room was as large as a city store with all kinds of equipment hung all over the walls, most of which he had no idea what they did. He continued looking around the training room, slowly digesting everything he was seeing and trying to make sense of what they were used for. He could see a dozen duel rings at the center of the training room, with a couple of students fighting in one of them. He was about to go spectate their fight when he noticed the entrance of Eric and his gang. They also saw him immediately and approached him.
"Ah, I knew I can't escape this,"
Uche muttered under his breath as he turned around to face them, but then he couldn't see any of them anymore, as if they had completely disappeared.
Then he suddenly sensed danger behind him, but when he turned around, it was already too late as Eric's fist hit him right in the face, sending him several feet back to the entrance of the training room.
And before he knew it, all six of them were above him, punching and kicking him, breaking every bone in his body. Uche groaned, blood flowing out of his body. He tried his best to hide his injury, to keep everyone from seeing his healing capabilities, as the whole students were looking at them—some enjoying the scene while a few pitied him.
