Chapter 44: Welcome To The Arcane World
Everything they needed for their journey had been prepared beforehand by Mira, Uche had packed all his luggage and same as Mira. Now the house looked rather empty after some unwanted stuffs had been discarded, all they needed now is to leave and begin their journey to the vampire world.
Uche threw a long last look at the large apartment as they both step out, he couldn't help but ask.
"Are you just going to leave it here like this?"
Uche asked, still staring at the large apartment.
"What do you expect? Am I supposed to take it with me?"
Mira asked, already tapping the screen of her wristwatch, probably to summon her trusted bike.
"I mean-"
"Don't worry, I already put it on sale, the new owner will take possession of it in two hours time."
She interrupted him.
"Oh wow, that's great of you."
Uche replied. She had claimed that she bought the house as a whole when she first got into the human world, so Uche knew it would be a waste if she left it here empty, but it seems she had already sold it off.
"Now shall we set off?"
Mira said with a smile.
Uche nodded, finally moving his gaze away from the apartment, then he turned around, but his heart skipped a beat immediately as he took several steps back.
"What...what on earth is this?"
Uche asked, still stepping back with his hand pointed at a strange object that had just appeared out of nowhere.
The object stood no more than the height of a portable laptop, but hovering above the object is something Uche hadn't seen before. It looked like a shimmering light of different colors that went inside, almost like a wave. The object was round in shape with azure blue being the first color and the color covering the whole part, but looking deeper into it, several shades of different colors could be seen shining brightly within it.
Uche hadn't seen something like this before, it looked magical, but still, he was petrified.
Mira couldn't help but laugh at the frightened look on Uche's face.
"Actually this can't be found on earth, it only exists in the Arcane World."
Mira said with a smile, then she continued.
"This is a portable teleporter, just think of it as our ride home."
She declared pointing at the shimmering circle that stood in front of them.
"A teleporter? You mean those magical devices that can transport someone from one world to another, you're kidding me."
Uche blurted, he had read countless fantasy novels and a few movies and through some of them he had heard something called a mechanical teleporter, a device that could grant instant travel but he never believed he would get to see one in his lifetime or use it even.
"Exactly, the teleporter device will open a one-time portal that would take us back home."
She said.
Uche couldn't help but stare at it in disbelief, it felt so unreal to him.
"So a teleporter does really exist."
He muttered, moving closer to Mira.
"Yes, and there are countless different devices you would find when we get home. Let's not waste time, they're waiting for us."
Mira said walking into the shimmering portal.
'It seems the vampires are really advanced in technology.'
Uche thought, slowly walking behind Mira, he felt as though he was walking into a fantasy world.
They both stepped into the portal and immediately Uche felt...nothing, it felt as if all his senses had been extinguished, he felt numb as several rays of light shone before him and engulfed him.
It all lasted for a couple seconds as Uche could finally feel himself again, he felt his feet standing on a hard surface, meaning they had got back on land.
When Uche opened his eyes, he was surprised to find himself faced with a couple dozens of swords and arrows all pointed at him, ready to tear him into shreds if he mistakenly took a step forward.
"What the....Mira what's going on?"
Uche shouted as he turned to Mira who stood calm beside him, tapping the screen of her wristwatch.
"Calm down, no cause for alarm."
She replied as a beep sound was heard from her watch and both the swords and the arrows retreated in an instant.
"This is a safety measure made against the failure of the teleporter that took us here."
Mira declared, already moving forward, they seemed to be in an open field teeming with all kinds of weapons that Uche could swear he hadn't seen before in his life, not even in his dream.
Hovering above the ground were all kinds of swords and arrows, including spears of different shapes, and buried in the ground were different weapons that Uche could not recognize.
"What do you mean failure of the teleporter?"
Uche asked, not understanding her words, he carefully walked behind Mira. They were currently walking through the passage of a legion of gigantic axes that were buried in the ground.
"The teleporter that took us here is a one-time use, meaning it can only be used once, also it's set to explode automatically after the portal closed behind us, so as we're talking now I'm sure it has turned into a rain of ashes."
Mira responded, finally walking out of the axe passage but they were still trapped in the midst of other weapons on the field.
"But there's a possibility that the teleporter might fail to explode and some genius human might find it, hack or repair it and make it work again. Do you know what happens after that?"
She asked Uche as she turned to face him.
"The teleporter will take them here."
Uche replied.
"Exactly, and that's why this weapon field had been built to stop anything that came through the teleporter, I was able to make the weapons retreat, thanks to my trusted watch but a signal had been sent to the guards immediately we stepped in and they will be here in minutes. If it were unrecognized faces or some human that came through the portal they would be arrested immediately and questioned later, but if they act recklessly before the guards get here, then the Badlands will show no mercy."
Mira explained, walking away from Uche who followed her immediately.
"Wait, wait, do you mean anyone or anything that came through the teleporter without that strange wristwatch will be killed by the weapons."
He asked.
"Not exactly killed, the weapons will only hurt them to the point of death until the guards come, but if they stay in place as you did when we arrived, then they won't be harmed until the guards come."
Mira responded while Uche nodded as he put the pieces together, this place is home to the vampires so they made it that it cannot be discovered by the humans or some other entity in the world that Uche didn't know about, so they made the weapon field to stop anything that comes through the teleporter.
'Does that mean there's no other way to get here apart from the teleporter? No that's wrong, there must be a physical entrance to this place.'
Uche wondered.
"What city is this?"
Uche suddenly asked after a couple dozen seconds of silence.
"You mean here? We call it the Badlands, we'll get into the vampire civilization after this place."
Mira responded while Uche shook his head.
"No I'm not asking about the name you call it, I mean what part of earth is this?"
Uche inquired.
"Oh didn't know you were talking about that. Well, this isn't earth, you're no more in the Milky Way Galaxy..."
Mira paused for a while as they were finally out of the weapon field, and standing right in front of them was a gigantic black gate that seemed to be competing with the sky itself.
"Welcome to the Arcane World."
She said with a smile, bowing down slightly with her hands pointing at the large text written on the gate.
Uche stared at the large gate for a couple seconds before turning to Mira and asked.
"Arcane World? What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
Mira took a step forward and smiled but before she could say anything, Uche interrupted her with wide eyes as he spoke.
"Wait wait, what do you mean we're out of the Milky Way Galaxy? Don't tell me the vampire world is on another planet."
Mira turned back at him and chuckled, she opened her mouth to speak but just at that moment, the gigantic black gate swung wide open and stepping out of it were five large men, all clad in obsidian black armor with a great sword strapped to their waist.
One of them was about to draw his sword upon seeing Uche, but then their gaze landed on Mira and they all bowed down to her immediately.
"Princess, you're back."
One of them said.
"Welcome back princess."
The others said in unison.
"Prin- princess?"
Uche muttered with wide eyes, completely stunned which made Mira smile again, her smile wide almost as if she was enjoying the way Uche had been getting surprised over surprises today.
"Don't mind him guys, he's the new half-blooded I brought with me from the human world. C'mon let's get in."
Mira responded, her smile not wavering even for a second which only left Uche more stunned.
