Chapter 43: Leaving Everything Behind
The cops had not given up their search on Snowflake, they had searched every corner of the city, each street had been thoroughly patrolled but they found no traces of him. They knew for sure that he hadn't left the city, so they made their search limited to the city alone.
After everything they did to look for him had resulted to nothing but futile, they decided to take a break after a month and planned on their next approach. But on that same night that they agreed to take a break, a very stinky man that looked no less than a beggar barged into the headquarters and called for help.
The young officers wanted to kick him out thinking he has gone mad, but Sergeant Kim came out and decided to listen to him.
The poor man claimed that he lives in the outskirts, but makes a living by singing and bringing news from the city and selling it to the people of the outskirts, so he visits the city time to time for new updates. He claimed that when he returned to the outskirts some hours ago, he found the atmosphere strange. The people were acting normal but the atmosphere was strangely different, then he started looking around, searching for what's wrong.
Then he found it, every corner of the street, countless deadly weapons had been kept in every part of the street, shop and every corner of the street. He asked what's wrong, but nobody answered him, so he came to report before something bad happened.
The cops were reluctant to believe what he had said, but with Sergeant Kim around, he decided to take a few squad with him and follow the man back to the outskirts, at night.
And when they got there, it's not what they had expected.
Although the street was silent when they got there, but they knew something has gone wrong as the street reeked of blood, so they decided to be cautious and not act rashly.
Not until they heard a painful scream that they instinctively fired, and what followed next was the silent humming of a bike, escaping into the darkness.
"Follow them!!!"
Sergeant Kim commanded. Half of the cops followed them, while the other half stayed with Sergeant Kim, they began examining the street and they found out that a war had broken out here.
"On the surface, it looks like a fight between the inhabitants of the street, but it's not."
Sergeant Kim said as he got up from the corpse he was examining, they found out that not all of them had been killed, many of them were purposely knocked out while a few unfortunate ones were killed.
"The damage would be more than this if it's a fight between the inhabitants of the street. Have you located where the scream came from?"
Sergeant Kim asked.
"Yes but it looks like the person had crawled into one of the buildings, we'll go after them."
One of the men replied. Sergeant Kim had asked his men to locate where the painful scream came from when they got into the street, after the person that escaped with the bike had fled from that area.
"Sir come take a look, it's Snowflake."
One of the men shouted from inside the building.
And just like that, the invincible Snowflake fell into the cop's grip, literally.
---
Several minutes later, Uche and Mira got home safely, escaping the cops was not a problem so they got home with relative ease. And by the time they got home, Uche's eye had been fixed back successfully, but he had lost a lot of blood on the journey back home. His wound is not healing so blood was flowing out of it with no resistance.
He was barely conscious.
Mira quickly took him into the treatment room, took care of his wound and prepared some meat for him. Uche couldn't consume blood yet so it will take him a while for his wound to completely heal and after his body healed completely, he would need something to restore his energy which is why Mira had prepared a lot of meat for him.
'I still don't understand why meat helps him restore his energy.'
Mira thought, staring at him lying on the bed, sleeping peacefully, his eye had gone back to normal so he doesn't need an eye patch anymore.
After treating all his injuries and preparing enough meat for him to eat when he wakes up, Mira couldn't help but wonder what type of sword Snowflake was using. Not only did it stop Uche's healing but it also left several cuts that each one is deep enough to take an ordinary human's life, even a normal half blooded vampire's life. But thankfully enough, Uche is not a normal half blooded vampire.
He's beyond normal as far as she knows.
Mira stared at him as he slept peacefully on the treatment bed.
"I guess you can now leave everything behind and move into the vampire world and start a new chapter in your life. I hope you live a low key life and survive in our world, I can sense something great in you."
Mira muttered under her breath, her gaze not moving away from Uche.
She also hoped the two of them won't have to cross swords in the future, that's why she had wished him to live a low key life.
---
Uche slept for the whole night and woke up the next morning, feeling hungry, the first thing he did was greedily consume the pot of meat he found right beside him, then he felt refreshed. His whole body had completely healed and his two eyes are back to normal, he could now see clearly with his two eyes.
He was still in the treatment room and Mira was nowhere to be found so he guessed she had gone back to continue with the information she was piling up for report in the vampire world.
"I guess she'll be pretty busy before we leave."
He muttered under his breath. Just as he was about to get off the bed, the door slid open and coming into view was Mira with her pyjamas hanging loosely on her shoulder.
She seemed different today though, the energy around her felt different, almost charming and Uche had the urge to rush over and embrace her tightly.
"Oh you're awake."
She said with a faint smile on her face. Uche nodded, still bewildered by the sudden change of energy around her. Mira is someone who always walks with a cold indifferent expression and a chilling aura around her, but that's mere on the surface.
Only the people who are close to her will know how warm and charming she can be, Uche also knows that even though he hasn't spent a lot of time with her.
But today though, even the cold chilling energy that always moved with her was nowhere to be found, now in its place was a more welcoming and charming energy.
"Let's go, I've prepared breakfast."
Mira said, interrupting his stupid thoughts.
"Huh yeah."
Uche said as he followed behind her.
The dining had already been set, it seems Mira had been busy preparing breakfast while he was sleeping lazily.
They wasted no time before digging in and chatting away. As they ate and chatted, Uche couldn't help but ask.
"You seem the happiest today, may I ask why?"
Uche asked, staring at her intently.
Mira raised an eyebrow, asking a silent question like, 'huh me?', Uche nodded and Mira smiled in response, swallowed a large chunk of meat without chewing it and spoke.
"Nothing really, you know, finally going back home after leaving for more than a couple years. Although, it's always boring back there, apart from fighting here and there, nothing really interesting compared to the human world. But I can't deny that it always feels good thinking of going back home, sweet home."
She said, her smile unwavering.
"Well, I wouldn't feel the same as I'm not going back home, rather I'm going into an unknown world. Not that I have somewhere to call home, after all, I'm not always welcomed anywhere. But it still feels nice going back with you, at least, there will be room for me to grow stronger."
Uche said, a faint smile on his face.
Mira stopped eating, then stared directly into his eyes.
"Uche, it'll be better if you live a low key life in the vampire world, just like you have been doing here. The more time I spend with you, the more I know about you, and I've come to realize that you're someone different, far different than I had imagined. And your appearance in the vampire world could cause a disaster which might possibly lead to your death.
Just like here, there would be those who want you dead for being different, and there would be those who want to use and exploit you. I've been thinking about it for the past few days but couldn't come up with a solution, the only solution is for you to maintain a low key life. Of course, you can decide to remain here to avoid those troubles."
Mira said, feeling a little disheartened and sorry for him.
Uche kept quiet for a while, then shook his head.
"No, I'm not staying here anymore. Whatever the case might be out there, I'll have to endure it and try not to raise any attention. I'll find out more about myself, find who I really am and if there are others like me. You don't need to worry, you have done nothing but help me till this day, I'll surely find a way to repay you in the future."
