=============
Three hours later.
The Chevrolet sped out from a hidden grove.
Ophelia leaned back in the passenger seat, her cheeks flushed.
She glanced at Norin, who was focused on driving, and subconsciously licked the corner of her mouth. The taste was still sweet and intoxicating.
She took a short break.
Despite her tired body, she bent down again.
"Tell me, what brought you here today?" Norin asked, keeping his eyes on the road.
He let the greedy kitten do as she pleased. There was no other way. He had too many important things to do and couldn't feed the cat whenever she wanted.
He could only satisfy her every now and then, making sure she was full before leaving.
One feeding was enough to last her several days.
The kitten could grow, and he could extend the duration of his abilities.
Sometimes, the kitten refused to give up, always wanting more. But there was nothing he could do. Overfeeding would make her bloated, so he had to give her milk instead.
Milk was a good thing, especially the kind he mixed himself. Many people loved it.
He noticed the kitten's mouth was bulging and worried she might drink too fast, choking deep in her throat. If that happened, she might need a doctor.
"Hmm… coo…"
Ophelia, probably drinking too quickly, mumbled, "I recently got a mission to go to Japan. I'm supposed to help Ichiro Yashida, the former head of the Yashida Group, complete a weapon."
Norin immediately thought of The Wolverine.
In the X-Men series, Viper worked for the Yashida Group, creating the Silver Samurai for Ichiro Yashida, who nearly defeated Wolverine.
But in the end, good triumphed over evil. With the help of Ichiro's granddaughter, Mariko, Wolverine defeated the Silver Samurai and continued his solitary journey.
"The Yashida Group is the largest conglomerate in Sakura Country, with immense wealth. But according to our intel, they've secretly purchased a large amount of adamantium and seem to be developing a mysterious weapon."
"Because of my medical expertise, Yashida invited me to treat Ichiro and help improve his equipment."
Ophelia shared all the information she'd gathered from the Yashida Group and Hydra, all while working diligently.
Norin patted her head in approval, thinking as he drove.
This seemed like a good opportunity.
Why build a conglomerate from scratch when you could take over an existing one?
Though the Yashida Group might already be in debt due to their massive adamantium purchases, that wasn't a big issue.
It was a golden goose with significant influence in Japan. It would recover after a slowdown.
However, its downside was obvious. Being a Japanese company, it had limited reach in the United States.
How could a son give orders to his father?
But Norin didn't plan to bring it into the mutant school. Instead, he'd treat it as his private resource.
Or, he could use someone else's nest to lay his own eggs, sacrificing the Yashida Group to hatch a phoenix that suited his needs.
Now was a good opportunity. Let Ophelia take the lead, figure out the situation, and then use some tricks to make everything work.
He remembered Mariko was quite charming. She was also Ichiro Yashida's nominal heir...
So, Norin gave Ophelia some tasks and promised to visit her often.
To encourage the kitten to work harder, Norin was generous with his gifts.
That night, the two arrived at a two-story house Ophelia had bought with her secret savings. She'd named the house "Norin." In her words, everything she had belonged to Norin, so she didn't bother naming it after herself.
When they entered the room, Norin raised an eyebrow. What was that on the bed? A whip?
And in the closet next to it? A series of... interesting outfits.
'Ophelia, you're playing with fire.'
---
The next day,
Norin returned to school early, full of energy.
Though he'd been gone for an afternoon and evening, almost no one noticed.
It was normal to go out and have fun on weekends.
Everyone's an adult—don't they deserve a little freedom?
But when he returned, he saw Kate waiting with a resentful look. She'd even bought engine oil, ready for Norin to help her repair and lubricate her car.
She'd waited all night, but Norin never showed.
Afraid of ruining Norin's plans, she didn't go to his dorm to look for him.
Finally, she fell asleep around 3 or 4 a.m.
At the time, she wondered if Norin was still busy. It must've been exhausting for him.
Kate, with dark circles under her eyes, tried to talk to Norin, but Ororo came over and called him away.
All she could do was watch as Norin left, an apologetic look on his face.
---
On the way to the meeting room, Ororo kept glancing at Norin.
"What's wrong, Ororo?" Norin asked when she looked his way again.
"Is our future... destined to end in destruction?" Ororo asked, her voice heavy with worry.
Norin shook his head. "The future isn't set in stone. Every action we take now can change it. As long as we keep working hard and don't stick to old ideas, the future is full of hope."
"Full of hope... I hope so."
Ororo still looked uneasy. The thought of peace shattering and mutants being massacred sent chills down her spine.
"There's something I haven't told you," Norin said suddenly. "I don't exist in the two futures I saw."
Ororo fell into deep thought, as if she understood something but couldn't quite grasp it.
---
The two entered the meeting room.
All active members of the X-Men were present.
The timeline was still early, so the official members were Phoenix (Jean), Cyclops (Scott), Storm (Ororo), and Professor X.
Wolverine hadn't joined yet, and Colossus was still a candidate.
From this perspective, Professor X was the only one holding things together in the mutant school camp. No one else could stand on their own.
If they fought the military, things would fall apart the moment Professor X was restricted.
Unless Jean turned evil, but that would destroy not just the mutants, but the entire Earth.
---
To Norin's surprise, though everyone was looking at him, Charles didn't start with the plan.
"Norin, Scott, Ororo, get ready. You're going to Alberta, Canada, to bring Wolverine back. My old friend Magneto has been eyeing him for some reason."
Norin was confused. Why was he included in this mission?
Scott and Ororo were equally surprised.
"Professor, given Magneto's strength, this mission could be dangerous. And with Norin's... lack of experience, it might affect our actions," Scott argued.
Even though he was being dismissed, Norin didn't care. He'd rather spend more time basking in the sun.
"Magneto won't be there this time. Just be careful, and you'll be fine," Charles said firmly.
Seeing this, Scott had no choice but to agree.
However, he shot Norin a look, his eyes filled with displeasure.
'Oh great, do you see me as an enemy? A love rival, maybe?'
'It seems being too handsome is a sin. I truly am unforgivable.'
---
After Norin and the others left to prepare,
Jean asked, "Professor, is Norin really ready for this? This mission involves fighting Magneto's men. It's not low-risk."
"Don't underestimate him. His power isn't as simple as it seems," Charles replied.
He turned his chair, opened a drawer, and pulled out a black box. Inside was a crushed wash cup.
"This was found in the garbage from Norin's dorm."
Jean frowned, examining it. "This looks like it was crushed with excessive force."
Charles nodded. "To achieve this, you'd need a physical enhancement mutation, like Peter in his tempered state."
"Do you remember the information Ororo brought from that lab?"
Jean hadn't forgotten. It said Norin's mutant ability allowed him to temporarily acquire others' powers through kissing or exchanging fluids.
At the time, they'd thought the ability was strange, but considering its potential, they'd recruited him.
"Without us knowing, he must've acquired a physical enhancer's ability. And... do you think he'd have survived that apocalyptic future if he were weak?"
"I suspect his strength rivals Scott's and the others'."
This was just speculation, but Charles was eager to see Norin in action.
A world overrun by Sentinels, where even Magneto fell in battle. A world where humans dominated and mutants were wiped out.
Surviving to the end in either world was no small feat.
If Norin truly had this ability, he might be a better successor than Jean, Ororo, or the others.
The only downside was the ability's limitation—it only worked with the opposite sex and lasted a short time. If it worked with all bodily fluids and lasted longer, he'd be the perfect candidate.
At the very least, the mutant school would gain a powerful ally.
