"You mean you can travel to a parallel universe?"

Even with Charles's composure, he was momentarily thrown off balance.

His mind raced.

A parallel universe... that was a concept that existed only in theory, never confirmed.

Yet now, it was being stated so casually by a boy—a man not even 18 years old.

Combined with Norin's outright rejection of his ideas earlier, Charles couldn't help but wonder: Had Norin been to other parallel universes and seen the future of mutants?

The thought made Charles's defenses crumble. He no longer felt the need to argue.

Charles looked visibly shaken, almost afraid to face the reality. "What did you see?"

"I saw a world almost identical to ours. There was Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Professor Charles, Jean, Scott, Ororo, and even Magneto."

"But unlike our current universe, their timeline was much further ahead—about ten years into the future."

"Also in New York…"

Norin paused.

Charles felt a sinking feeling. "Then what?"

"Then? There was no 'then.' By that time, New York had already become a ruin."

"The entire world was under threat from machines called Sentinels."

"They were weapons developed by humans specifically to target mutants. They could detect mutant genes in the human body and eliminate them."

"There were countless Sentinels, and they were expendable. Worse, they were incredibly powerful. More than 90% of mutants were like lambs to the slaughter in front of them."

"Xavier's School was in ruins. Many people I knew had become corpses. There was no safe place in that world—just war and death everywhere."

"I saw you, along with a handful of others. Once, there had been many mutants, but by then, fewer than ten remained. I watched them march toward extinction with my own eyes."

"Magneto was dead. Clarice was dead. Colossus was dead. Bobby was dead…"

"There were no winners in that war. Because of a flaw in the Sentinels' judgment process, more than half of humanity was purged. But the mutants suffered an even worse fate."

"But…"

"At the last moment, Kitty and a man named Logan reversed the future through consciousness transmission."

Charles was stunned. Though he hadn't probed Norin's mind to confirm the truth, he could tell from Norin's expression and tone that he wasn't lying.

Still, the authenticity of the story needed verification.

Regardless, this matter had to be taken seriously. It concerned the survival of mutants and the future more than a decade from now.

Logically, if such a future was coming, there should already be signs.

For example, the Sentinel robots—did they already exist?

And Logan… Charles knew him.

Given Norin's age and background, he shouldn't have known about Logan.

Norin had also mentioned other things he shouldn't have known.

The more Charles thought about it, the more uneasy he became. Was it true that mutants had no future? Where was the path forward?

But…

"Fortunately, the future was reversed in the end, and our universe was saved."

"Perhaps my philosophy is wrong. But what other path is there besides this one? Subjugating humanity?"

Charles felt a mix of relief and confusion.

He had never wanted to kill humans or let mutants dominate.

His experiences and his life had shaped him to avoid such extreme paths.

Charles believed that with enough effort, humans and mutants could coexist peacefully.

Because everyone had love in their hearts.

Yet, deep down, Charles felt a peculiar resistance, as if something subconscious was stopping him.

It seemed that even if he decided to join forces with his old friend Eric to wipe out humanity, it would be impossible.

It was a strange feeling, as if attempting such a thing would lead to his own death.

The earth was definitely not as simple as it seemed.

After all, besides mutants, Charles knew there were other non-mutant individuals with superpowers. Though few in number, they were incredibly powerful.

"Saved?"

To Charles's surprise, Norin shook his head again.

"Could it be..."

The bad premonition grew stronger, and Charles's expression turned even graver.

"Professor! What's happening?"

At that moment, Jean Grey burst into the room.

As a telepath, Jean was highly sensitive to mental fluctuations.

Just now, Charles's mind had been unusually active and erratic, almost as if he'd lost control.

Noticing something was wrong, she rushed over immediately, but it seemed she might have overreacted.

Still, Charles's solemn expression worried her deeply. This was the first time she'd seen the professor so serious—even confused?

Was this still the wise, composed professor she remembered, the one who always remained calm no matter the situation?

'And that boy, Norin.'

Jean knew him well and had even taught him a few lessons.

During class, she often found herself glancing at him more than she should.

Norin seemed to have a special charm, one that made people unable to look away, completely captivated.

She'd even wanted to get closer to him, but their respective roles held her back.

Without realizing it, Jean's affection for Norin had nearly reached its peak.

"Excuse me, Professor, am I interrupting?"

"It's fine. You have the right to know about this, so stay and listen."

After inviting Jean to join them, Charles gently asked Norin, "Can we continue?"

"Of course."

Norin first flashed Jean a lethal smile—the same one that had made Kara fall for him twice. (TN: Lol, I advise you to keep reading, no matter how cringry it is.)

Though Jean possessed powerful telepathic abilities and fragments of the Phoenix Force, she wasn't immune to his charm.

If Charles hadn't been there, she would've gladly stayed with Norin a little longer, just to see that smile one more time and breathe in that intoxicating scent.

Being near Norin filled them with a joy that came from the depths of their hearts.

But that joy quickly faded as Norin began to speak.

What lay before Charles and Jean was an utterly hopeless future.

The end of mutants—the death of Twilight Logan.
