Chapter 108: Get him, Six
"A duel? You want a duel?" Tyrone raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by Bill's decision.
Bill only smirked.
"The winner takes all the loser's badges. Fair deal, isn't it? …Or are you scared?"
Even though Bill was provoking their self-respect, Tyrone just gave a small shrug and stayed silent. He tuned out their words—nonsense. He never trusted anything that came from nobles.
Hector, on the other hand, showed a bit of interest. He tilted his head toward the voice and asked:
"Fine, but how does it work? And how do I know you'll actually hand over the badges if we win?"
Clive and the others behind him chuckled at Hector's question. In their eyes, Hector didn't stand a chance—so why waste breath worrying about something so useless?
Bill grinned, flipping a coin toward Hector.
"That's the point. This artifact creates the dual ground. You'll see soon enough whether I'm lying."
He smirked again, mocking their ignorance. What a pity—Hector was blind, so he couldn't recognize the artifact himself. Only his teammates knew.
Hector caught the coin in his palm. Without hesitation, he handed his cane to Bam, leaving both Bam and Tyrone stunned.
He didn't check the coin, didn't rely on a cane, didn't even ask for details. Who knew if Bill was offering something real or just setting a trap?
Bam frowned, wanting to object. Losing now would mean starting from zero, and at this point in the exam, it was too reckless to gamble everything.
But Tyrone only smiled.
"Let him be. Hector already has a plan."
Bam gritted his teeth, then sighed.
"…Fine. As long as we pass."
Hector nodded to his two companions, then stepped forward.
"I accept your challenge!"
Immediately, the coin in Hector's palm glimmered faintly, then a duel yard began to form out of thin air.
Bricks arranged themselves one after another, and stone columns rose at the corners of the yard. Half a minute later, everything was ready for Hector and Bill.
The two stood face to face in the center, staring each other down until Bill spoke first.
"It's been a while since the last time we fought… and I've almost killed you. It's a shame as I lost that chance.''
Bill's sentence was filled with arrogance and disdain. He just assessed Hector as a weak prey.
Hector stayed silent, scanning the yard to check its changes and plan his move, completely ignoring Bill's provocation.
Bill realized that no matter what he said, it was pointless. He gave up with a sigh, then called his dog into the yard. His eyes flicked toward Violet, who was glaring at him with open hostility from outside the field.
It made him remember bad bad memories. That fight, he completely was outmatched by Violet's power. If instructors would haven't come in time, he believed that he would have died that day, so he was very angry each time he saw Violet. But, now, he knew her flaws.
He smirked, mocking her for some reason. Then, without hesitation, he activated the artifact in his palm.
A barrier shot up, enclosing the place, shocking everyone watching.
But that wasn't all.
Suddenly, Hector felt an intense weight pressing down on him, stealing his breath as if a massive stone were crushing his body. He collapsed to one knee, struggling to rise, but couldn't.
"The gravity… has it changed?"
His whole body grew unbearably heavy, every breath like dragging boulders through his chest.
Outside the yard, Violet screamed in fury and pounded on the barrier, but it didn't even budge.
"What did you do to him, you little piece of shit?!"
Bill just chuckled.
"Nothing big… Just a small trick. He rushed in without thinking, so this is on him. Don't worry—I'll let him die soon. After what you did to me, it's only fair."
His face twisted more and more with rage and madness as he stepped toward Hector, who was still crushed by the altered gravity.
"I WILL TORTURE HIM UNTIL HE BEGS TO DIE!"
Violet's heart nearly stopped when she heard that. She staggered, but Adele quickly caught her in her arms, holding her tight in comfort. Violet trembled nonstop in Adele's embrace, sobbing, her mana flaring out of control from the emotional shock.
"S-Sister… I…" Her voice stuck in her throat as negative emotions churned inside her.
Adele seemed to understand what Violet wanted to say. She hugged her tightly, pressing Violet's face into her chest so she wouldn't have to see the terrible things happening. Her voice trembled with sadness.
Violet reminded her of her little sister. And just like back then—when her sister was bullied by trash bins—she took on the role of the big sister, punishing every piece of trash that dared to hurt her.
"Don't say it… I'll definitely tear him to pieces afterward. None of them will survive."
Eric stood beside them, emotions stirring faintly in her heart. She felt strangely relieved at the thought of Hector dying, but she wasn't sure if it would really be good for Violet.
After all, Violet had endured so much pain in the past, and very few people could make her care this much. Eric even felt a twinge of jealousy toward Hector.
BAM!
Bill kicked Hector in the chest, sending him flying into the corner of the yard. Luckily, Hector's heavy armor absorbed most of the impact, leaving him with only minor injuries.
But under the crushing gravity, Hector realized he had no choice—if he wanted to fight properly, he had to get rid of the armor.
The moment he shed it, the effect was clear. He'd dropped at least forty pounds, and now he could finally stand again. His frail build showed through the thin T-shirt stretched over his bones.
"Still too heavy!" he muttered, tossing aside every piece of equipment that weighed him down.
Shoes.
Gauntlets.
Sword.
He didn't need any of it.
Bill scoffed at the sight and sneered.
"You look like a turtle crawling out of its shell. But that'll only make your death come faster."
Then Bill turned to his beast and gave the order.
"Get him, Six. I'll finish him off from behind."
