Chapter 109: No trick can stop what’s coming
Hector fixed his eyes on the pressure points rushing toward him. He figured it was Bill's dog, so he slowly took a deep breath to steady himself.
Then, in a flash, he triggered his mana and released it all at once. Instantly, his action sent chills through everyone present, as if they had just sensed something terrifying.
But in truth, it was only his own sensation. The others quickly brushed it off as a short-lived illusion.
At that moment, though, something shifted in Hector. His gaunt body suddenly swelled as each muscle bulged and shrank nonstop for five seconds. Then, as time passed, his frame gradually stabilized under some unknown power.
He was no longer just a frail young man, though he remained blind. The muscles outlined beneath his thin T-shirt made him look manly and powerful.
"Show off! Attack him!" Bill shouted, brushing off Hector's sudden change.
The dog roared viciously and lunged at Hector.
Hector only let out a deep breath, glaring at the beast with tired, almost annoyed eyes. For some reason, the moment Hector gave it that look, the dog froze mid-attack and collapsed, trembling violently—pissing itself as though it had seen something unspeakably horrifying.
It had completely lost the will to fight.
"You useless mutt!" Bill roared at his pet and activated his skill coin.
He had no idea why the dog had collapsed, but he convinced himself it was just a cheap trick—and that Hector's transformation meant nothing.
Unfazed, Bill forced the dog back onto its feet, his mana wrapping around its body and drilling into its mind to crush its fear.
Now, stripped of emotions, the dog became nothing but crazed and feral. Without hesitation, it charged at Hector, jaws wide.
When the distance closed to barely half a meter, Hector vanished—leaving not even a trace of scent behind. The dog spun around frantically, trying to find him, but it was useless.
From afar, Bill scanned the arena as well, his eyes darting everywhere—until a cold voice brushed his ear from behind.
"That's all you've got?"
"Huh?!" Bill panicked, instantly backing away as he turned to face Hector.
But Hector only sighed, ignoring his reaction. He simply stared at him, waiting for what he would do next.
He wanted to toy with Bill a little longer. Of course, that only drove Bill into a fury. Bill kept trying to convince himself it was all just an illusion or a mistake. But his comrades' reactions outside the yard betrayed him.
Most of them were stunned at what they were seeing.
Hector was treating Bill like a weak enemy he could crush anytime he wanted.
Hard to believe or not, reality was still reality.
"T-That's him…" Tom stammered, shivering as he stumbled backward. His eyes widened in horror, haunted by old memories. It looked almost like a mental breakdown, something that had scarred him deeply.
Clive and the others exchanged uneasy looks, silently praying for a good outcome. If Bill lost to Hector here, then all of them would share his fate and fail to advance to the next stage of the final exam.
Meanwhile, Hector's group was in high spirits.
"Hahaha! Kill him, Hector!" Tyrone shouted with excitement.
Bam was caught off guard by his outburst and said nothing. If Hector wins, that'll work out just fine for us.
"So… that's his real power. I was too green, judging everyone just by appearance." Adele rubbed Violet's head again, exhaling with relief. She no longer felt worried about Hector. He was clearly a powerhouse—but why had he always kept it hidden? With strength like that, he should've had a guaranteed spot in Class A.
His speed was incredible, so fast she could barely track his footsteps.
Violet, meanwhile, gazed at Hector with relief and joy in her eyes, noting any trace of worry anymore. It was as if a stone weighing on her chest had been lifted.
She had never imagined he was this strong. Even though she'd seen glimpses of his power before, it felt like he had suddenly revealed a true strength he'd been hiding all along.
And why did she believe that? Simply because no one could grow so much in just a single year. From a newbie to a veteran—unless he was a genius.
A surge of pride and happiness welled up inside her. Was this really happening to him?
Maybe…
Eric, on the other hand, felt a wave of nausea watching Hector fight. This wasn't a dream.
Everything she had seen in the treatment room before had been real.
Hector's strength was real.
He was a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing.
***
Hector sighed again.
"If you're nothing more than this, I'll kill you."
He slowly stepped toward Bill.
But Bill, gritting his teeth in rage, shouted as he drew his bow. While backing away quickly, he aimed an arrow straight at Hector.
"You arrogant little shit!"
Five arrows shot at Hector at sonic speed—but it was useless. Hector sensed every pressure point rushing toward him.
With just a slight tilt of his head, he dodged each arrow. Then, leaping into the air, he landed as smoothly as if gravity itself weighed nothing on him.
The sound of a roar rumbled closer, vibrations trembling through the ground with every step of the charging dog. Hector cast a hollow gaze at the beast—then past it, at Bill. He had decided. This pointless fight needed to end now.
He didn't have the time to toy with him any longer.
Hector advanced on Bill while slipping past the dog's claws.
Dodge. And dodge again.
The beast bit and clawed relentlessly, but all it struck were afterimages left behind by Hector's extreme speed.
Arrows infused with dense mana whistled toward him, but every shot was meaningless. By now, Bill's confidence had collapsed, replaced by a gnawing fear.
He screamed over and over, firing arrow after arrow from behind his pet in desperation.
"Die! Die! Die!"
Second by second, Hector closed in—until suddenly, he froze.
He stumbled, clutching his head in pain.
A cold voice echoed:
"You should pour out every drop of mana. Don't hold back. This is the last chance you'll have to use it. No trick can stop what's coming."
