Chapter 75: First Rebirth
A few hours later, Yu Tian opened his eyes.
"You're finally awake. What was that just now?" Xueling asked, quickly moving to check on him.
Yu Tian observed his body's condition as he explained to her the technique he had used.
"Overclocking? Only you could use such a method," she said.
After observing himself, Yu Tian went to the study room. Seeing the look on his face, she guessed he'd probably gotten some insights from the battle. She decided to let him be and went back to her training.
In the study room, Yu Tian was writing down some insights he had gained from the spar just now.
He smiled as he looked at the paper before him.
He thought to himself that Overclocking was quite interesting - it allowed him to push both his mind and body to the limit, allowing him to train them both simultaneously. This was quite the discovery. He would definitely pay more attention to this in the future.
The way he had used it, although usable, was still rough around the edges. He needed to refine it to such a level that he could always be in such a state naturally.
He remembered the way Xueling had unlocked her Winter Curse Saint Body for the first time. He had told her that it wasn't a body but her true form. He wondered if this could be true for him too. Like, could he force this overclocked state to be his true state? Such that he was always in this state and could react instantly in battle or even during a sneak attack.
He sighed. He was being too ambitious. He still had a long way to go. First, he needed to be able to use it without falling unconscious instantly after. He'd start with that.
Six days later, Xueling stood before Yu Tian, holding her sword tightly. The night before, she had finally broken through to the tenth layer and was now at the Core Formation Ultimate Peak.
At this stage, she felt that she should be invincible among the early stages of the Golden Core Realm, even without the suppression rune.
She looked at Yu Tian, who was gesturing for her to attack.
So then why was she unable to beat him even once? she wondered as she charged towards Yu Tian once again.
Their swords clashed with a sharp ring. Xueling pressed forward, putting her full weight behind a downward slash, but Yu Tian sidestepped effortlessly, his blade redirecting hers with minimal movement.
"Good power, but you're still telegraphing your strikes," he said calmly, his voice steady despite the intensity of their exchange. "You're hiding it by tightening your shoulders but you're making it too tight which is too obvious. Try loosening it a bit and find a balance."
She gritted her teeth and adjusted, launching a series of rapid thrusts. Yu Tian parried each one, his movements economical and precise.
"Better," he acknowledged. "But your footwork is still too rigid. Flow with the momentum instead of fighting against it."
Xueling pivoted, attempting a horizontal sweep aimed at his midsection. Yu Tian stepped into her range, deflecting her blade upward with his own before she could build momentum.
"Excellent adaptation," he said, nodding with approval. "That adjustment was much faster than yesterday. You're learning. Keep it up."
She didn't let up, transitioning immediately into an overhead strike. Yu Tian blocked it, but she could see the slight shift in his stance - the force behind her attack was real.
"Your energy circulation is improving," he continued, countering with a swift strike that she barely managed to deflect. "But you're still relying too much on raw strength. Let the technique do the work."
Xueling tried to create distance, but Yu Tian was already closing in. She switched her grip, attempting an upward slash from a lower angle.
"Good instinct," he said, dodging to the side. "But drop your elbow slightly. It'll give you better control and more speed."
She adjusted mid-swing, and the difference was immediate. Her blade moved faster, smoother. But Yu Tian was still faster. He easily maneuvered around her guard, and before she could react, his sword was pressed gently against her neck.
"Let's take a short break," he said.
Xueling dropped to the ground in exhaustion, and Yu Tian joined her, sitting next to her.
Jingxing brought the two food.
As she ate, Xueling observed Yu Tian, thinking to herself that he really was a genius. He had managed to defeat her after just being a mortal a month ago. She looked to the side, thinking to herself that he needed her because of her strength. Now that he was equally as strong - no, much stronger - would he need her anymore?
On the other hand, Yu Tian also admired her. He had just developed an improved version of all her techniques, and she seemed to be already adjusting to them. With this level of genius, he felt he could shape her into a sword god.
…
Yu Tian observed his own progress. For starters, his qi cultivation had improved greatly. He was already in the Fifth Layer of Core Formation. He would've been even higher given the energy he absorbed from Xueling, but his foundation was much stronger than ordinary, requiring more energy.
He thought to himself that there was no choice - he needed to level up her Winter Curse Saint Body to Level Three. After it leveled up, the energy concentration would increase and his level-up speed would increase.
He then changed his attention to his body. He had already undergone his first rebirth. He was now in the Eleventh Layer of Body Refining. The physical power increase was great. In the same realm, he didn't think he'd easily lose to anybody.
He decided to look for another Starfall Blossom later for Xueling so she could learn the Endless Rebirth Scripture too. Although the way it worked was similar to the essence of the snake monster, one didn't necessarily need it to begin practicing.
He had already analyzed the energy before, and one just needed to circulate the energy through the method of the scripture to gain the rebirth essence. As for the Starfall Blossom, he didn't believe the three righteous sects didn't have many of them lying around.
After all, they were seventh-grade sects.
Another thing he'd improved in the past two days was his Overclock technique.
At the moment, he could already enter and leave the state easily without any side effects. But staying in the state for extended periods of time was still problematic, so he still wouldn't be able to always be in that state. Even so, his mind level was close to improving, so he could expect some changes soon.
With a higher level mind, he could create even more threads and control his body with even more precision. That, combined with his Level Eleven Body Refining that already improved his body's condition, he didn't think he couldn't fight a middle to late stage Golden Core cultivator.
Speaking of Golden Core cultivators…
"Dogs of the Snow Heaven Sect, come greet your ancestor!" a voice echoed throughout the sect.
