Chapter 3: 3
Kenshin was about to swing another punch at the man when someone caught him from behind.
"Hey, let go of me!" Kenshin yelled. From the body contact he made with the person he was able to tell that the person was about the same height as him and maybe the same age. It must be a supernatural.
"Please, take him outside," a nurse ordered, it was nurse Samantha. That was how he first met her. "This is a hospital and you should know that there are others here in worse condition"
That was a lie.
The person slowly dragged him outside as Kenshin struggled for freedom.
"Let go of me!. Damn you, damn you all!"
Kenshin continued shouting until he was outside and everyone's attention suddenly shifted from him and back to what they were doing.
"I said let go of me!" Kenshin was finally able to break free from the person, or rather the person finally let go of him. "What is wrong with you?"
"I can't stand and watch you attack the elderly," the boy replied. "I'm Kakashi Yami"
Kakashi extended his arm for a handshake, but Kenshin slapped it away.
"Stay away from me" Kenshin warned. "It was none of your business"
"You shouldn't push yourself too hard"
"Where is that coming from?" Kenshin looked surprised.
"Quit trying to make yourself a victim, you're just showing everyone how weak you are," Kakashi advised. "She just fainted and you're beating up an old man, what will you do if you never see her again?"
Kenshin couldn't say anything, he just stared at the ground.
"My mother died in front of me when I was just ten years old and I never got to see my sister. I was used for experiments and when I was able to escape, I was still forced to join the academy because that was the only way I could maybe find my sister" Kakashi paused. He was expecting Kenshin to say something but he didn't. "You don't see me going round killing everybody I lay my eyes on. So stop acting like you are the only one who had a rough life, we all do but we just have to push on. What you did won't help anybody, it won't help your sister"
"What do you expect me to do?" Kenshin's eyes watered. "I just don't know what!"
"Wipe your tears, they make you look weak. Now, walk into the hospital and go check on your sister."
Kenshin used his sleeves to wipe his tears and nodded.
"Thanks"
"No problem, that's what a hero would do. Give hope"
Kenshin walked away leaving Kakashi outside. As he walked past the students, they all moved back showing their fear. The principal was being attended to by another nurse.
He was approached by the nurse who ordered Kakashi to drag him outside.
"She is in room 208" she informed.
"I'm sorry, for all that..." Kenshin managed to say.
"You should be apologizing to that man," the nurse stated and walked away before he could say anything else.
He quickly took the elevator and went to see Yuri. As he opened the door, Kenshin noticed that the doctor was puzzled.
"Doctor, how is she doing?. What is wrong with her?" Kenshin asked desperately. "She is going to be fine right?"
The doctor looked at Kenshin and immediately felt pity for him.
"I... don't know"
"What do you mean by you don't know?" Kenshin grabbed the doctor's coat. "Aren't you a doctor? Do your job!"
The doctor didn't say anything, he just blankly stared at Kenshin. Kenshin noticed this and quickly released him.
"I'm a doctor and it's my job to save lives" the doctor adjusted his coat and turned to Kenshin. "But I can't do anything beyond my capability"
"What do you mean?"
"What happened to your sister isn't something normal." Kenshin's heart skipped a beat. "We really don't know what is wrong with her, all our tests show that nothing is wrong with her. I'm afraid this is above me"
"So what do you want me to do?" Kenshin asked.
"Pray," the doctor said. "I've treated humans and sometimes supernatural, but I haven't seen this happen to a human"
"Seen what happened?"
"She seems to be undergoing some kind of awakening, it shouldn't be possible"
"I don't get it, only supernatural are able to go through Awakening. My sister is not a supernatural, how is she able to Awaken?"
"She has not yet Awaken, he energy is too weak so it's slowly consuming her" The doctor paused. "If it continues, she might never wake up or even worse, die"
Kenshin's flashback ended as he looked at his sister's current condition. She had completely dried up in just a year, and it keeps getting worse and worse.
"I'm sorry, Yuri" Kenshin broke down in tears and fell beside his sister. "I just can't hold on. I've lost hope, I don't know what to do"
He held her hand and gently pressed it against his forehead, his body was cold, but her heart was still beating, slowly. Tears were streaming down his eyes as he continuously rubbed his face against the blanket.
"But, I'm not going to let you die alone, we are going to die together"
He stood up, wiped his tears and kissed her on the forehead before leaving the room.
Kenshin made his way to the elevator and went to the fiftieth floor before using the stairs to the roof, an iron bar was used to block the edge.
He slowly walked to the edge and looked down. It was a really long way down. He was sure to die if he fell down from this height and his body wouldn't look good at his burial. There was no one to do a burial for him anyways, his body will probably be parked and put it the ground like a dog.
Kenshin crossed over the iron bar and held it tightly, as he stood there and thought about it again. Is killing himself the answer? He had lost everything, there was nothing to live for. When the conclusion, he decided to let go of the iron bar.
