Chapter 108: Worthy Opponent
Later that night,
Noah drove with Jason toward the Morgan family's estate.
The entire ride, Noah remained glued to his phone, scrolling through updates about Jared Morgan's ongoing divorce battle.
"That man finally found a worthy opponent..." Noah muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
But Jason, seated beside him at the wheel, heard every word. He cast a quick glance at Noah. "Who's that man you're talking about here?"
"Who else? Jared Morgan, of course… he's going to lose everything. And honestly, I couldn't care less. In fact, I couldn't be happier," Noah said as he slipped his phone back into his jacket pocket.
Jason let out a short laugh, looking at Noah before returning his eyes to the road and accelerating toward the city's elite district.
"He's an idiot for trying to challenge you, Noah," Jason remarked.
Noah took a slow breath, trying to stay calm.
"I just hope he doesn't challenge me today, or that he's not even at Grandpa's house. I really need one peaceful day before we face Lucas Graham…"
That time, it was Jason who stiffened again.
Just a week ago, Jason had no idea how Noah could ever go head-to-head with his former boss. It sounded insane.
But after what he'd witnessed at the Black Roses Gang's headquarters, everything changed.
He saw it with his own eyes; his current boss wasn't just strong. He was something else entirely.
Noah was not an ordinary man. Not anymore. The swift reflexes, the strength of his punches and kicks, the perfect marksmanship, along with the calmness and steady heart rate of his every movement, make him unlike an ordinary human being.
"Relax, boss... I doubt Jared Morgan will risk leaving his house now. The media is still camped outside, waiting for his statement," Jason said, trying to ease Noah's worries.
A soft laugh escaped Noah's lips as he sat up straighter, just as the car passed through the front gate.
"That's good to hear that. I just wanted to drop by briefly and then leave. I didn't plan to stay..."
Noah's voice trailed off the moment he spotted several cars parked in front of his grandfather's house, and one of them unmistakably was Jared's.
'What do you expect, Noah? Of course he will come too...'
Sensing Noah's shift in mood, Jason glanced toward the car not far from them.
"Do you want me to go in with you, Noah?"
"It's fine..." Noah turned to him with a faint smile. "You stay here. I won't be long."
Stepping inside the house, Noah wasn't surprised to be greeted at the door.
But this time, it wasn't his aunt. It was his grandmother.
A relieved and joyful smile appeared on her lips as she stepped forward to meet him.
"Oh, my dear Noah, thank you for coming. Come... come, let's see your grandfather. He's been waiting ever since he heard you were coming."
"Grandma, I'm sorry I only came now... I've been busy with work recently, and I've been traveling a lot."
Noah responded politely, walking beside her as they headed toward his grandparents' living area, one of the wings of the building he had never visited before.
"It's fine, Noah. At least now you've come. The whole family will be happy to see you again..."
Noah chuckled softly to himself, feeling a strange mix of uncertainty and warmth at her words.
He wasn't sure if she was being entirely sincere or simply trying to make him feel welcome in this house.
They had to walk through the beautiful garden before reaching the modern pavilion where his grandparents resided.
From a distance, he could already see the living room that opened to the garden.
And he immediately noticed all of his father's siblings gathered inside.
He also spotted a few of his cousins, ones he had last seen at Jeremy Morgan's funeral, now gathered there as well.
'Is Grandpa's condition really that serious? Why are they all here like he's about to die at any moment?'
Noah was taken aback by the sight of them all in one place.
Earlier, before leaving for this visit, Matthew had updated him about Alexander Morgan's health, confirming it was true. He was sick, but he had refused to remain in the hospital.
Now, the entire medical staff had moved into the estate to care for him. And not far from the pavilion park, an ambulance.
Before they reached the pavilion, Noah looked at her and asked, "Grandma... is Grandpa's condition really that serious?"
Isabel Reid halted her steps and glanced at Noah.
"Oh dear, your grandfather has been unwell for the past few years. But his condition has worsened since news about your uncles and cousin started appearing online. It's been stressing him a lot..."
"I'm so sorry to hear that, Grandma," Noah said sincerely.
Although he didn't have a strong emotional bond with this family, he couldn't completely ignore them. After all, this was his father's bloodline.
Isabel Reid slowly lifted her hand and gently patted Noah's shoulder.
"It's fine, my dear. Alright, let's go inside..."
When they finally entered the pavilion, his father's siblings greeted him warmly. But one person completely ignored him: Jared Morgan.
Jared just stared at him with a dark, angry glare, as if Noah were his mortal enemy.
Noah didn't bother to look back or speak to him.
He simply followed his grandma to a room that had now been turned into a treatment space, with several medical machines lined up near the bed.
He saw his grandfather lying on a hospital bed, eyes tightly shut, appearing to be asleep.
A male nurse who had been guarding the room spoke briefly with Isabel Reid before quietly stepping out.
Isabel turned to Noah with an apologetic look on her face.
"Oh dear... I'm sorry, but your grandfather just fell asleep. It seems the medication made him drowsy. Can you wait until he wakes up? He usually wakes after two hours..."
She felt guilty for rushing him over, only to find Alexander asleep.
Noah had no choice but to stay longer than expected.
"You can have dinner with us, Noah..." Isabel Reid is trying to convince him.
He didn't rush to answer her but needed to contact Jason first, or he might be forced to come in.
'Jason, can you hear me?' Noah called to him through their mental connection. He rarely spoke this way unless they were near each other.
And it didn't take long, Jason's voice rang in his mind, 'Yes, I hear you... anything happening inside!?' His tone was tense.
'Nothing. No need to worry. I just wanted to let you know we might be here for a while.'
Jason let out a relieved breath before saying, 'I understand...'
Noah then turned back to reassure his grandmother that he was okay with staying longer and also would join them for dinner.
As Noah had imagined, his stay in this house would certainly not be peaceful.
At least it was peaceful for a while during dinner, as they all enjoyed a hearty meal and satisfying drinks.
And shortly after that, he spent his time talking with his aunts, who began asking about the Golden Phoenix Group, clearly hoping that he would help them.
However, his answer remained the same: he didn't know much about the company, and professionals handled all matters related to it. If they wanted more details, he told them to contact Matthew.
After making many excuses, his aunt finally gave up asking for his help in saving the Morgan Group from the big trouble they were currently facing.
At that moment, Jared Morgan approached and asked to speak with him alone.
But before Noah could respond, Rachel suddenly cut in. "Jared, don't try to provoke Noah… or Father and Mother will be furious with you." She warned him with a sharp glare.
"Jared… I'll beat you if you upset Noah again!" Andrew Morgan scolded.
Andrew didn't want his little brother to cause more damage to their company's reputation by angering Noah.
Noah, observing the scene, was surprised to see how they were now protecting him from Jared. He couldn't help but feel amused by it.
Jared shot a glare at Andrew and Rachel, visibly annoyed.
"I won't! I just want to ask him something..." Jared turned to Noah. "Let's go, my nephew..." His voice sounded gentle, but an impatient glint flashed in his eyes. He walked ahead, not waiting for Noah's response.
...
Standing in the garden, hidden from view, Noah casually stood beside Jared Morgan.
He waited for him to speak, but Jared remained silent, taking a few deep breaths while staring off in a fixed direction.
Noah slowly shook his head, then ignored him and lit a cigarette, using it to distract himself from the overwhelming urge to beat Jared.
When Jared finally looked at him in surprise, Noah raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Uncle, do you want one?" he asked, offering the cigarette box.
"No!" Jared snapped immediately.
Sliding the box back into his pocket, Noah spoke coolly, "I'll give you time until I finish this cigarette, Uncle. If you don't say anything, I'm leaving..." He didn't have time to waste on trash like Jared Morgan.
