Chapter 74 Yang Xintian's First Experience_2
The moment she finished speaking, Wang Yiyang was so happy he nearly leaped into the air. In his mind, accepting a gift meant accepting the person!
Just as he was about to confess, a bucket of cold water was poured over his head.
"But, Wang Yiyang, your gift is too expensive. I can't accept it." She walked over to him and held out the gift box. "I'm sorry, but this is too valuable. Please take it back."
Wang Yiyang was flustered. It felt awkward to take it back, but just as awkward not to. For a moment, he was at a complete loss.
"Yang Xintian, Wang Yiyang likes you! That's a token of his affection for you!" one of his underlings shouted, seeing his leader fumbling.
Others found it amusing and joined in the heckling.
"Yang Xintian, I like you! Be my girlfriend!" Wang Yiyang suddenly found his backbone and decisively pushed the gift toward her as a symbol of his confession.
"Say yes! Say yes!"
Someone started the chant, and soon everyone was yelling along.
Yang Xintian, who was normally fearless, began to panic. She quickly pushed his gift away, saying, "Take it back! There's no way I can accept you!"
It wasn't clear if she pushed too hard or if he failed to catch it, but the box fell to the ground.
CRACK.
Jade is fragile, and it shattered instantly.
The room fell silent.
Everyone stared at each other, unsure of what to do.
The most panicked person, of course, was Wang Yiyang.
He had prepared two identical bracelets—one real, one fake. At the party, he had shown the real one to everyone. He was afraid there might be a connoisseur among his classmates, as many of them came from well-off families. He had planned to pull a switcheroo later, swapping the fake into the box and taking the real one back. That way, he could win his goddess's favor and still return the bracelet without his mother ever finding out.
But now the real one was shattered. He was completely dumbfounded.
"I'm so sorry it broke. I'll compensate you," Yang Xintian said kindly.
Wang Yiyang, however, flew into a rage. "Compensate? With what? This is an ice-variety jadeite bracelet worth millions! Can you afford that?"
"What? Millions?" Yang Xintian was stunned.
The other classmates were dumbstruck as well.
No way! Is Wang Yiyang out of his mind? Using something worth millions to woo a girl?
Seeing their mocking expressions, Wang Yiyang grew even angrier. "I stole it from my mom's dowry! I was planning to return it!"
Well, look at that. A confession without even being pressed.
The moment the words left his mouth, Wang Yiyang knew he had misspoken in his anger. But since he'd already let the cat out of the bag, he figured he might as well see it through.
"So, what do you plan to do?" Yang Xintian hadn't expected her simple birthday party to turn into such a disaster. If she had known this would happen, she never would have thrown one in the first place.
Just as she was growing distraught, she spotted Sun Dasheng in the corner.
She immediately shot him a pleading look. Uncle Sun, please, you have to help me!
Sun Dasheng rose with an amused smile and walked over. Feeling the imposing aura of the approaching man, the students blocking the path instinctively parted to create a way for him.
"What's going on?" Sun Dasheng asked casually, though he had already heard everything clearly from where he was sitting.
"Uncle Sun, this is what happened, blah blah blah..." After explaining everything in a single breath, Yang Xintian looked at him with beseeching eyes. Then, she leaned in and whispered, "Uncle Sun, if you can help me solve this, I'll do anything you ask in the future."
"Really? Anything?" Sun Dasheng asked with a sly grin.
"Mhm!" Yang Xintian swore. "If I go back on my word, may I never make a fortune for the rest of my life!"
For a little money-grubber like her, this was a grave, unbreakable vow.
Sun Dasheng patted her head reassuringly. "Don't worry. Leave it to me."
He then bent down, picked up the shattered jadeite fragments, and examined them closely.
Seeing that a formidable helper had arrived, Wang Yiyang blustered with false bravado, "You're not going to claim it's fake, are you?"
Sun Dasheng looked up at him. "Did I say that?"
"Uh..." Wang Yiyang was at a loss for words.
Gently weighing the broken pieces in his hand, Sun Dasheng spoke. "The item is real, and the price is about what he said."
"Ah! Then what do we do?" Yang Xintian hung her head.
Her family could afford the payment, but it would probably drain her parents' cash reserves. When she got home, she would definitely face a beating from both of them.
Wang Yiyang snorted. "At least you're telling the truth. Now, let's talk about how you're going to compensate me."
"It's only right to pay for something you broke at its full value."
As soon as Sun Dasheng said this, Wang Yiyang broke into a happy smile.
But the next sentence wiped it right off his face.
"However, this item belongs to your parents, not you. If there's going to be any compensation, we should call your parents over and clarify the matter with them on the spot. That would be best."
"Don't you all agree?" Sun Dasheng asked the crowd.
Everyone chimed in with their support.
"That's the right way to do it!"
"That's the best way to handle it."
...
As Wang Yiyang's face turned ashen, his parents rushed over.
Sun Dasheng had expected a fuss, but the couple turned out to be quite reasonable. They proposed that both sides share the responsibility. Therefore, they would only need compensation for half the original price of two million—a sum of one million.
They even brought the purchase receipts and certificates of authenticity, providing all the necessary documents to prove there was no fraud or exaggeration.
Sun Dasheng transferred one million to them on the spot, and they left, dragging their son away by the ear.
What an interesting couple. They were so well-mannered. How did they raise a son with such poor character?
