Chapter 68 – To The Rescue
"NY City..."
"They really have done it..." Baltimore clenched her teeth.
There was many surprised looks on everyone's face. Especially with Baltimore and Hornet. Meanwhile, the Commander glanced at the far distance of the remnant of the Siren wreck. A small shining light appeared over the horizon for a brief moment before it disappeared into nothingness. It was a signal for him to get moving according to the Siren's plan.
He turned to them, "We don't have much time, they are sending us an S.O.S message. Let's stop idling around and we rush back to the base at full speed."
Hornet snapped out from her shock and nodded. "...Right, let's go everyone!"
After the war with Crimson Axis broke, under the order from Eagle Union Command, they had to mobilize most of its defense fleets to various parts of the world to deal with the increasingly dangerous situation. As long everything intact on NY Harbor, no one can get through the strongest sea defense in Long Island line.
Unfortunately, you can't say the same to the current situation.
"This can't be..." Baltimore looked around.
There was a lot of floating wreckage and burning ruins. A lot of trace from an encounter could be seen on everywhere. Burning part of ship, a Siren wreck and destroyed gun. No sign of life could be seen, either they had evacuated or they encounter an unfortunate fate. Checking on the wreckage, Baltimore went to Greynar, reporting everything she finds.
"Commander, there's no one here, should we proceed to go delve further?" Victorious asked while checking through her recon plane.
"Neither i got any contact from other side." Hornet joined in.
"I believe the most optional idea was to wait until someone contact us again." Baltimore appeared next to the door, she joined Greynar inside the command ship. "Commander, they likely to send us another wave of Siren if we don't destroy the command chain."
"Try to keep contacting the fleets that defended this area, we need more information about what happen in this place." he said while checking any available channel. "They must have jammed our communication so try to use any low frequency connection."
Baltimore nodded and complied his order. Not a minute passed, they received a signal from a fleet not far away from here. It was a duo of destroyers that came back to check the remnant of the fight.
"Farragut-class destroyer, Dewey, reporting for duty!" The destroyer saluted.
"I'm another Farragut-class destroyer, Aylwin. Reporting for duty." Joined by a salute, both petite duo reported to Greynar.
Victorious asked about the situation. "Farragut-class destroyers... Are you the defense fleet that guarded the Long Island defense?"
"Yes we are, Miss Victorious." Dewey answered.
"What's the current situation with the fleets?" Baltimore chimed in.
"The diversion force managed to draw the Sirens' attention away, giving us the opportunity to retreat with the wounded. But after that..." she shook her head. "We'd like to check the others, but the Siren are blocking our paths."
"It's too much for just us to handle..." Alwyin sniffed in dejection.
"B-but if we got the Commander here already, surely we can think a way to handle them, right?" Dewey turned to Greynar with a pleading eyes.
The person in question sighed. "This probably a bit troublesome, i will have to look for more information regarding the enemies position." he glance at the ruined building, "Right, let's go-"
"C-comander! I've received a transmission from Juneau and Birmingham, they informed me that elite Siren Purifier has appeared!" Volga who went away to other direction, suddenly informed him through the radio channel.
"Ah! They were the diversion force! Commander, we must save them!" Dewey urged him.
"Everyone go full speed ahead!" He ordered immediately.
'She has appeared, i will personally inform her to take easy on them.' he silently commented.
As they went through their way to the diversion fleet, Volga was facing an ambush from the Siren. She was confident that their plan was to separate the force to render the other with the weakest firepower to be crippled. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong person to be ambushed. As a carrier, her range attack might be on par with the Essex-class carrier, but her close range attack wasn't either weak to be said.
"Commander have entrusted me with this. I must not let him down! I remember what Enterprise said, i need to be a bit aggressive in play against the Siren. You can do it Volga!" she cheered herself up.
A humanoid Siren suddenly charged behind her. Her rigging noticed it and chomped the poor Siren down and destroyed it. She glanced at the Siren in cold eyes but also keeping her sight on the others. The carrier controlled her plane on the distance to ambush the Siren from behind. As the bomb almost hit them, she noticed that they have forcefield around their bodies. The humanoid Siren looked straight at her, they aimed their weapon to her and charged it.
"Not on my watch!"
Volga summoned a giant crystal ball above them, she remembered on their way to Long Island defense, the goddess-carrier told her about amplifying her bomb with her rigging' special ability. She took the advice and tested out on the Siren by making her bomber dropped the bomb on her crystal ball while she also gather a charge by her rigging's mouth.
As soon the bomb went above the crystal, she launched a beam attack to the cold crystal ball. In result, a massive wave of cold struck her, the size of the ice explosion was unbelivable large. The bomb hit the crystal at the same time with the beam pierced through it. In result a chain of reaction occurred with the crystal shattered and turned into a large ice bomb that freezed everything in an instant. The Siren below it was disabled and destroyed subsequently. Due to the minus temperature, area around her was solid ice with the water turned into land of ice.
"...Wow, i didn't expect that big." She looked to her rigging and rubbed its chin. "I should sometimes treat you something." She chuckled to herself. "Alright, let's go to Commander shall we, huh—!"
Before she could move, something grabbed her leg. A petite Siren floated behind her, Observer sneakily made her unconscious. The Siren gazed at the sight of ice lake. She looked back at the uncoscious girl on her tentacle and rested her under an untouched tree.
"Now then... I can't have you to meet Code G, yet. An irregular from the cube, did Richard send you here? Or did you appear because of him?" She speaks to the unresponsive girl. "I've noticed your data isn't registered on the Natural Calculation System, and there seems to be a gap between our history fighting against humanity on this test site, but what happened before?" She searched for the background history of the timeline but nothing appeared, it's looks like the system deliberately hiding something from her. "Zero... What did you hide from me."
Observer scanned the girl, she didn't find anything abnormal about her. Everything was normal. It was the first time that something outside of her control appeared. She decided to retreat back from the girl until further investigation needed, she trust that Greynar could keep her around. She travelled to distance with a lightspeed movement to the south of the sea, leaving the girl alone.

"Commander! That's them!" Dewey pointed at the direction they were heading.
In the far away distance, he could see a figure floating in the sky while the other two was injured to the brim. Birmingham was standing on one leg with Juneau beside her still look fine but she was on the verge of tears. Purifier was starting to get bored, she didn't want to waste any second to do some useless task Observer dumped to her.
"Damn it... Is this really the end?" Birmingham tried to get up but she falls down immediately."
"Y-you've gotta get up, B-Birmingham!" Juneau stood in front of her, shielding her from Purifier.
"Man, they sure dumped a ton of dirty work in my lap this time." Purifier grumbled, she turned to the girls below her. "Hey, what's-your-name, Burnie-sham? You still with me? Heellloooo? Come on, get up!" she approached them slowly with a laugh.
"P-please stay away from us! Or i'll shoot you!" Juneau tears begin to leak out as she pointed her gun to the Siren.
Purifier stopped her approach. "Tsk, don’t look at me with tears in your eyes while taking out such dangerous weapons! Didn't your mom teach you not to point guns at people, little girl?" The Siren silently glanced to the side before looking back. She smirked. "But if you just take advantage of the situation and beg me for mercy, maybe I will really let you go~?" she shrugged. "Who knows? I might really let you go~"
"Juneau... Don't worry about me, just get out of here...!"Birmingham slowly stood up.
"No way! I won't abandon my friends... or surrender to the enemy!" The stubborn girl, still with a tear and a trembling body looked at the Siren with an intense glare.
"Heyyy.... I'm too tired of these drama, can't y'all just go over it alread—Owwww!!!" Purifier words were interupted with an explosion to her left side. "HEY WATCH IT!!!"
Baltimore jumped between them, "That's right! Well said! Never abandon your friends even if you are at disadvantage."
"Juneau! Birmingham! Thank goodness you're okay!" Dewey joined her as they shielding them both.
"Dewey... Aylwin...! Why did you come back?" Juneau was puzzle with how the table has turned, when she looked to where they came from, she caught the figure of the Command ship. "Commander!" Her unexpected reinforcement was the Commander himself.
"We're saved..." Birmingham consciousness slowly faded and let them take care of the rest.
"I got you!" Hornet caught the body as she almost fell to the water.
"Hornet, get them onto the ship, let them rest on the back." Greynar ordered.
'Purifier really going over the top, isn't she...' Greynar murmured turning to the battle in front of him.
"You've managed to hold back a mighty enemy for such a long time. You should be proud of yourselves." Baltimore looked back with a smirk.
She turned to Purifier with a glare. "You there! Purifier was it? Pick on someone your own size instead!" she shot her rigging to her immediately.
Purifier dodged it with a wide smile on her. "Aha~ Bingo! You showed up right on schedule, just like Observer predicted~" She looked at her wrist, acting like she got a watch on her hand. "The lead actors haven't assembled yet... but you chumps are going to get front row seats!! Prepare to get sent to hell by Miss Purifier, ahahaha!!!"
