Assassin God: Rise of the Strongest Player

Chapter 31 : Gregory’s Threat

Zebadiah Gates stood up and blocked Greg's path to reaching Nash.

He did this not to protect Nash or anything but for the sake of his pride.

They were like lions fighting for their territory where Zebadiah was hurt that Greg felt he could do whatever he wanted in their class and get away with it.

"Do you have a death wish, kiddo?" Gregory Barnes threatened Zebadiah, making the latter chuckle for a moment.

The students were shocked, holding their hearts in their hands as they watched the two boys go aura for aura in their thirst for dominance.

Greg did not show any signs of giving up and neither did Zebadiah express any form of fear for Greg or his group.

They were both in the same category of people that bullied others into doing their biddings, and as such, everyone expected a fight to happen between them.

Zebadiah Gates, however, had more influence than Greg thanks to his family and so Greg tread with caution despite still making a manly stand against Zebadiah's opposition.

"I'd like to see you try," Zebadiah answered back, taking a step forward.

Greg exhaled and shook his head as he put a hand on Zebadiah's shoulders.

"I didn't come for you today, Gates brat," he said, throwing in an insult into the mix, "he came for that guy. You can wait in line for your turn."

Zebadiah looked behind him and saw Nash before turning back to Greg.

"Nash?" he asked.

Greg nodded.

Seeing Greg's affirmative gesture, a smile flashed on Zebadiah's face but he was quick to hide it.

Ever since Nash expressed his interest in Belle Codrin, Zebadiah developed a deep sense of hate for him even when Nash had not directly wronged him.

Right now, it felt as though Fate favoured him and sent someone to do the dirty work.

Zebadiah knew how brutal Greg could get and it was even easier now because no one would link whatever terrible thing that befalls Nash back to him.

Moreover, they would say that he stood up to Greg when he came to harass the entire class, projecting himself as a hero for the weaklings.

Zebadiah could only laugh very freely in mind while keeping a straight face in reality.

"If we are done here, I have something to attend to," Greg said, patting Zebadiah's cheek repeatedly while he and his lackeys laughed.

Zebadiah stood on the spot as they walked past him, going to Nash.

*Bam*

The baton hit Nash's desk and he could only lift his head calmly and slowly at that.

He was not afraid of Greg or any of his underlings.

After all, he now had Null by his side.

He and Greg stared daggers at each other when out of nowhere, Kai stepped in between them and grabbed Nash by his shirt.

"Step outside!" Kai threatened him loudly. "You feel like you can insult us and get away with it?!"

Nash rolled his eyes for a second and then stayed his gaze.

He allowed an awkward air of silence linger between him and Kai before popping a soul-crushing question.

"Who are you?" Nash asked with a straight face.

Kai felt his head shake like an invisible hammer was slammed on it.

Nash, in fact, knew who exactly he was and had simply asked that question to throw him off balance.

From the looks of it, he succeeded.

Seeing how Nash had effortlessly disoriented Kai, Greg was forced to step in.

He glanced at his watch and firmly said, "I will be in the field and you have 3 minutes from when I get there. Else, forget about going home with your two legs today."

When he was done, Greg flung the book that Nash was trying to read out of the window and walked away with his underlings.

The rest of the class murmured about the situation, with most of them feeling sad for Nash as they know how Greg and his goons operate.

They knew that nothing good would come out of Nash going to meet him in the field.

Immediately, Greg left, the atmosphere of the classroom returned and talks started to fly.

"Seriously, Nash," some commented from beside Nash.

This was his seat mate, Tobias.

"Zebadiah wasn't enough of a problem, so much that you went to mess with Greg… of all people," Tobias added.

Nash looked at him and shrugged, giving a cheeky response. "Gotta aim higher, you know."

Tobias kept a deadpan face, not finding the silly joke funny in any way.

He was worried for his seat mate and friend, considering that Nash had only just been discharged from the hospital after what Zebadiah did to him.

Tobias sighed and shook his head in disappointment. "I wonder if it's until they kill you that you'll learn."

Nash stood up and adjusted his cloth while patting Tobias' shoulder.

"Don't worry about me, brother," he said confidently. "I will be fine."

Tobias scoffed. "Yeah, right. Just like you said the last time."

As he was about to leave, he locked eyes with Belle briefly.

For a moment, Nash was frozen in thought, only to notice how Belle gently shook her head as if pleading with him to not go to the field.

She was truly worried for him, knowing what Greg was capable of.

Nash found solace in knowing that she cared about him in her heart and smiled.

He knew Belle was kind at heart and sincere. Perhaps, those were the two virtues that made him like her the way he did, even after his rebirth.

Nash felt butterflies in his belly, but he knew he still had to go and meet Greg.

He was going there not out of fear for Greg's threat but because he also wanted to teach the bully a lesson he would not forget so fast in his life.

******

At the field.

The field that was going to be the venue for settling their dispute was the size of mini-football and it was just going to be Greg, his lackeys and Nash present.

"There he is," someone announced, noticing Nash approaching at a distance.

"Damn, the boy really came."

"He must have balls of steel now."

"...Or maybe he borrowed it. Hahaha!"

"Hahaha!"

"I heard Gates put him in the hospital."

Hearing this, Kai shrugged. "I guess he would have to go back."

They all laughed.

Nash approached them and Greg did the same.

"I will teach what happens when you come between me and my woman," Greg said.

Nash blinked a few times. "Really? This was about Senior Eileen?"

"What did you think?"

Nash exhaled. "Let's get it over with then."
