Chapter 30 : Pressure
(Kai's POV)
A young, slim guy with multicoloured mohawk-styled hair sat on his bed and typed away on his phone.
He frowned from time to time as he read the messages that popped into his phone while quickly replying to them.
"The fuck does he mean I should find him?" Kai complained to himself.
Greg had sent a message on their group chat that he should make sure to find who Nash was by the next day and knowing Greg, Kai understood that this was a serious matter to him.
He was nearly drawn to tears since he did not know where to start from.
All he did was make a wild guess from a single detail that he picked up and now he was going to spend his night and most of tomorrow's morning trying to find out who Nash was.
Kai exhaled in frustration and massaged his forehead as he re-read the messages again.
Greg was dead serious and Kai knew better than to get on his bad side.
"How am I going to do this, man?"
Kai leaned back against the set of pillows behind him while blowing air from his mouth and staring at the ceiling in thought.
He and Greg had the same thought process where they would find out who Nash was and gang up on him.
He thought about it for a couple of minutes and then picked up his phone to get to work as he texted a long list of people that he knows are linked to Apex Online in their school.
"Here goes nothing."
******
It was a new day and Nash was as happy as a clam.
After his expedition with LadyFlame and Eileen, he finally became a level 3 player.
He was in the classroom with a book opened in front of him as if he was trying to read and this has been on for a while.
"Who's Nash?!" a voice shouted to the entire class as a group of people stormed in.
The class which was initially noisy suddenly became quiet following the question. Even Nash raised his head to see who was the reason for the commotion.
Greg stood inside the class with his group of lackeys standing behind him striking tough poses like they were a fearsome gang.
Greg was a known tyrant in the entire school.
Naturally, Nash's classmates knew that Greg's presence in their class meant nothing other than trouble but they were lost as to why he specifically requested for Nash.
*Bam*
Kai slammed his palm on the desk of a random student and leaned into him as he grabbed him by the collar.
"What the hell are you looking at?"
The student was startled, immediately turning his face away from Kai and the others.
"N-No-Nothing!"
Kai then turned to look at the class with many of them avoiding eye contact.
"Stop it, Kai," Greg said from behind Kai, as he slightly pulled him back by the shoulder. "Don't scare the kid."
Kai looked at Greg and went backwards one step, allowing Greg to have his time with this student.
Greg put his baton between his armpit and adjusted the student's shirt from how rumpled Kai made it.
"There, there. Don't mind Kai. He can get like that when he's riled up, you see," Nash said, giving Kai a glance. "Isn't that right, Kai?"
Kai scratched the back of his head. "Yeah… I guess."
*Thud*
After adjusting the student's shirt, Greg's baton landed on the desk with a threatening thud and an eerie smile on his face.
"So can you tell me who Nash is?" he asked in a way that was maniacally polite.
The student swallowed in fear.
He knew what would happen to him if he didn't answer Greg's question and he also understood that no one was coming to save him when it happened.
"I don't have all day," Greg said, taking the student's hand and pulling him forward as he raised his baton.
The student shut his eyes and immediately pointed in Nash's direction.
Nash hissed. 'Tch! What a snitch!'
Nash could not understand how they figured out who he was.
Regardless, he was not exactly surprised since he was witnessing, with his own eyes, how violent Greg and goons were behaving.
It was not beyond him to beat the information out of people.
He already knew who Greg and Kai were even while they were inside the game but pretended not to know them to avoid unnecessary attention from Greg and his group.
Greg looked up in the direction that the student pointed and couldn't make out exactly who he was pointing at.
However, Greg locked eyes with Nash as he was the only student in that side of the class who did not bat an eye when looking at him.
Greg then turned his attention back to the student, playfully slapping his face.
"Come on, with your eyes closed, I can't really figure out a thing."
The student opened his eyes and turned to look at Nash as he fearfully murmured the words, "I'm sorry."
Nash did not turn away even for a second.
Greg returned his eyes to Nash, making sure that he was indeed the one.
Looking at Nash with more intent, he did indeed look like the player [Neon] whom he put a bounty on.
Greg had not really cared for anyone other than himself and so he was not surprised that the face did not register until Kai pointed it out.
Greg started moving toward Nash, his lackeys following closely behind him as he played with the baton in his hand.
He was angry, reading to smack the blues out of Nash but not right inside the class.
'That asshole is really going to get it for sure.'
Just then, someone stood from his seat, placing himself directly in Greg's path.
Greg was surprised, turning to his lackeys, who laughed, and then to this person.
He slanted his head to one side and scoffed. "Well, well, look who we have here… Zebadiah Gates."
Zebadiah took a step closer to Greg. "What is the meaning of this, Gregory Barnes?"
"Huh?" Greg responded in a demeaning tone of voice.
The tension between the two skyrocketed, with the rest of the class feeling the pressure.
Greg then stared Zebadiah down and threatened him.
"Do you have a death wish, kiddo?"
