Chapter 336: Dragons, Magic, and Shells (Part 2)
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
This brash young Blue Dragon thought its roar would make the Human Soldiers cower in terror, but instead, it was met with even fiercer artillery fire.
Under the dense crossfire, the Blue Dragon's body was riddled with a myriad of bloody holes, even its wings were tattered and leaking air.
Finally, with a piercing wail, the Blue Dragon plummeted powerlessly from mid-air, falling into the depths of the Rock Rift Valley with a dull thud, and then silence.
This was the first Pureblood Giant Dragon to die in this war, but it would not be the last.
"Marshal Dolores, only our Metal Dragon Clan can hold off those evil kin."
"No, wait a little longer, the Imperial offensive is not yet over."
"But ordinary weapons can't harm those evil dragons, if they cross the Rock Rift Valley—" Dionysus originally argued with the Great Goblin.
But when he turned his head, he saw a young Red Dragon, wobbling as it flew over the Rock Rift Valley. Under the intense artillery fire, it couldn't maintain its balance and howled as it fell into the depths of the canyon.
The Ancient Gold Dragon looked shocked, the power of these weapons was terrifying, capable of breaking through a dragon's scales!
Beside him, Dolores folded his arms, smiling faintly as he said, "I told you, this terrain favors the Imperial Army. If they attempt to cross the canyon, they will pay a hefty price."
Dionysus nodded slightly, but there was no joy on his face, just a trace of worry in his amber eyes that was hard to detect.
Currently, the Ashen Empire is their ally, but the future is unpredictable.
The Five-colored Evil Dragon's scales could be shattered by the Empire's artillery. If the Metal Dragons stood against the Empire, what fate would they face?
To Dionysus, Dolores wasn't just killing enemies. He was also, more precisely, demonstrating to him — to the Metal Dragon Clan, and even to His Majesty Bahamut behind them.
The Emperor wanted to use this war to show they have the confidence to confront the Dragon Clan.
"Beware of those strange iron balls, don't get hit!"
"Damn Imperial people!"
The Five-colored Dragons hovered above, but with the precedent of those dragons falling into the canyon, they hesitated to dive forward.
Jude gritted his teeth and said, "Enough! We can't continue like this, quickly destroy those strange weapons!"
"For the great Mother of Evil Dragons, destroy the world with thunder—" The Evil Dragon Sacrifices raised their Scepters, and dark clouds spread wildly, gathering above the Allied Forces' position, brewing a massive storm.
"Boom!"
A deafening roar echoed through the sky as lightning bolts as thick as bowls struck down, destroying several heavy cannons and blasting a dozen Imperial Artillerymen to bits.
Across the canyon, a group of Blue Dragon Descendant Godslayers murmured lowly, bowing their heads as arcs of electricity circled their massive horns.
"Boom!"
Bolts of lightning shot from their horn tips, blasting toward the opposite side of the canyon, engulfing hundreds of fully armed Imperial Soldiers, turning them into charred remnants.
The Dragon Worship Church's counterattack did cause some losses to the Imperial Legion, but compared to the casualties from the Empire's firepower cover, it was negligible.
From the start of the war, every minute, even every second, the Evil Dragon Descendants and Cultists were dying under the Empire's bombardment.
"By Tiamat!"
"How on earth do those Imperial people manage this?"
Dolores knew that as long as the Dragon Worship Church's followers didn't cross the canyon, the Imperial Army's long-range striking ability would surely allow them to dominate.
If they forcibly crossed the Rock Rift Valley, they'd suffer heavy casualties.
And that was why Dolores, as the nominal "attacker," chose this place, easy to defend and hard to attack, as the main battlefield.
He knew that under the Empire's bombardment, the Dragon Worship Church would either retreat or be forced into becoming the real attackers.
Sure enough, after pondering for a moment, Jude waved the Dragonhead Scepter, a gloomy expression on his face, as he ordered, "If that's the case, then cross the canyon, engage those damn Allied Forces in close combat! A dragon's body will crush those fragile ants!"
Under his command, a dozen Evil Dragon Sacrifices and Shamans chanted Spells, releasing Magic. The earth shook violently, and with flying rocks and dust, the cliff edges suddenly rose.
They surged like gigantic stone dragons toward the opposite side of the canyon, forming massive bridges connecting the north and south banks.
Blue Dragon Descendant Godslayers raised their Dragon Skull Shields, brandishing electrified longswords, growling angrily as they launched a fierce charge toward the Allied Forces' position across the canyon.
"You lowly bastards!"
"Tremble under the Mother Goddess's might!"
As the Heavy Infantry leading the charge, the Blue Dragon Descendant Godslayers were impeccable. Draped in scale armor and towering, they could step four or five meters in a stride, charging with great speed, wreaking havoc and breaking enemy lines once within their ranks.
But unfortunately, they faced the Empire's garrison, where defense works were already constructed on the opposite bank, sandbags piled in layers, with hundreds of the latest machine guns poised inside, barrels aimed at the enemies on the stone bridge.
"Fire!"
"Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!"
The deafening gunfire erupted, sending countless bullets raining down like a roaring storm, forming a crossfire net in the air, this metal storm instantly engulfing the Blue Dragon Descendant Godslayers.
Their Bone Shields shattered, bodies pierced by bullets, and they fell without even time to roar, accompanied by falling debris, plummeting from the stone bridge.
"Kill them all! For the Empire!"
"Shoot them!"
"Don't be intimidated by these Imperial people; they can't sustain this for long. Charge!!"
"Once we're in melee, these fragile humans will be torn apart, and you'll become heroes for His Majesty Tiamat!"
Countless Cultists and Blue Dragon Descendants swarmed the stone bridge, only to be slaughtered by the Empire's fearsome firepower, falling one after another into the dark abyss.
In just a moment, the valley floor was already piled with the bodies of the Dragon Worship Church members, forming small hills, with their warm blood forming rivers, gurgling as it flowed.
Watching the falling soldiers, Jude shouted hoarsely:
"Don't fear, onward! You are warriors chosen by Her Majesty the Dragon Queen! Even in death, your souls will ascend to the Divine Realm, experiencing boundless bliss!"
The Cultists, with expressions resolute in the face of death, brandished their swords, surging onto the stone bridge, launching a charge against the enemy lines.
Those Evil Dragon Descendants, as the war machines created by Tiamat, were inherently bloodthirsty and fearless of death, naturally glaring fiercely as they roared charging.
They were so numerous that even hundreds of machine guns weaving a crossfire net couldn't kill them all, with the Evil Dragon Descendants using fallen allies as shields, finally reaching the northern bank of the great canyon.
Numerous Blue Dragon Descendants clung to the sides and underside of the stone bridge, moving swiftly to evade the bullets.
"Marshal Dolores, they're about to land. Let us Seleucids engage them in battle," Adrian drew his Longsword, volunteering.
But Dolores shook his head once more, simply saying, "It's not time yet. We can still deplete a lot of the Dragon Worship Church's forces."
Adrian looked toward the stone bridge, now crowded with Blue Dragon Descendants, almost painted blue, numbering in the hundreds, those creatures like a flood, raging towards the opposite shore.
But at that moment, a series of earth-shaking explosions sounded.
"Boom!"
The fiery blast consumed the Blue Dragon Descendants, the stone bridge's center was directly blown apart, and the whole structure collapsed with a roar, stones along with countless howling creatures plummeted to the canyon floor.
