Chapter 182: The Wrath of Kihara Gensei
It's over.
Mugino's eyes widened, her pupils shrinking.
She stood frozen in place, helplessly watching the white light rush toward her.
Whoosh.
Just in time, a figure with black hair suddenly flashed in front of her, grabbing her and vanishing from the spot.
Boom!
The white light struck the spot where Mugino had just been, blowing a massive crater into the ground.
Mugino Shizuri, barely escaping death, looked at the small figure beside her in shock.
"Ruiko…?"
She had already given up all hope of living—but then something like this happened.
She had been saved.
And the one who saved her was someone she really liked.
Two huge surprises crashed together in her heart.
Right now, in Mugino Shizuri's eyes, Saten Ruiko wasn't just a friend—she was a savior.
Her own personal savior.
Doujin Artist: She's fallen! She's totally fallen for her! Hey!
Curly-haired Guy: That look in her eyes! Damn, it's like she wants to jump Ruiko right here and now!
Machete Girl: Hahaha, this must be what full affection looks like.
Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Stop it, all of you! I'm starting to panic here!
Saten Ruiko wasn't joking—she really was starting to panic.
She didn't even dare to turn her head to look at Mugino Shizuri. Her face was tense and stiff.
This is an Actor: Don't panic, stay calm.
Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Stay calm?! You're the one who started this whole mess! Why did I have to be the one to jump in and save her? That wasn't even necessary!
This is an Actor: I did it for your own good. If you didn't act, how were you gonna earn her favor?
Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Pfft, who said I was trying to earn favor?! I'm too busy trying not to lose it! This is bad—she might really drag me into the bedroom tonight!
Amegakure Village's Angel: If you're thinking about that, it means you've already accepted it deep down, Ruiko-chan.
Doujin Artist: Hahaha, that's right! Ruiko-chan, you're officially starting your harem!
Skirt-Flipping Maniac: Shut up, all of you! You're the ones making this worse!
If it weren't for these chaos-loving people egging things on, Anran wouldn't have pulled that dramatic rescue move.
Forget saving the girl—what a joke!
Saten Ruiko was fuming inside. Her pale hand gripped the sword's sheath tightly, but her face tried to stay calm.
"You're still alive?" Kihara Gensei floated mid-air, staring at Ruiko with a puzzled look. "After an attack like that from me, how did you survive?"
"Let me correct you—that wasn't just surviving." Saten Ruiko looked at him with scorn. "Also, I'm not the only one who's fine. We are."
Kihara Gensei froze for a moment, then turned around as if sensing something.
There stood a boy in a plaid shirt on top of a truck near the edge of the crater, hands in his pockets.
On either side of him stood his granddaughter, Terestina, and his partner, Keisaku Katori.
"You... You actually snapped out of it?" Gensei stared at Katori in her nurse outfit, stunned. "How is that possible?!"
He had previously used both Fantasy Hand and Truth Controller to forcefully twist her mind, turning her into a near-mindless battle machine.
There was no way to reverse that with science—at least not with what Academy City could do right now.
But her clear eyes now clearly showed she had come back to her senses.
"Doesn't seem like you're happy to see me back, Director Kihara." Katori looked at him calmly. "Weren't we supposed to be close partners?"
It was obvious she was mocking him.
Even though her mind had been messed with, her memories remained.
She remembered exactly what kind of cruel, inhuman experiments this old man had done to her.
He never saw her as a real partner.
"Hmph, don't get cocky, you're just a man-made tool!" Kihara Gensei quickly snapped out of his shock and sneered. "You think someone like you deserves to be my partner?"
He flipped his hand, and white light flashed again.
There was no point thinking about anything else now.
In Gensei's mind, as long as he killed everyone here, all the problems would go away.
Buzz.
The white light, capable of breaking everything down into particles, flared again—this time aimed at Katori.
But halfway through the air, the ball of white light suddenly flickered out—just like a candle being blown out.
It disappeared without a trace.
What?
Kihara Gensei's eyes widened in shock.
What just happened?
Why did his power suddenly stop working?
Was it that boy?
Gensei turned to look at Anran, staring at him hard.
No way... right? He didn't even do anything!
While Gensei stood there in disbelief, Anran finally spoke calmly:
"Using the structure of matter to cause root-level destruction with antimatter—your ability is interesting."
"You... how do you know that?"
Kihara Gensei froze, his face full of disbelief.
This special power, formed by combining atomic energy, vectors, and matter control, was something he had created only after countless rounds of theory testing.
In Gensei Kihara's view, this was the true root-level power that broke free from the limits of science and stepped into the realm of gods. It was supposed to be a power only he could understand and control—so how did this boy know so much about it?
"I figured it out by watching," Anran said, hands still in his pockets, speaking calmly. "Though it's interesting, this power hasn't really reached the level of a true Level 6 yet, has it?"
"What did you just say?!" Gensei's face twisted in anger, blood vessels popping in his eyes.
For a scientist, there's nothing worse than having their life's work dismissed. He had given up so much for the Absolute Ability Project, and now someone was calling it fake?
"If you were truly Level 6, you wouldn't be stuck at your current level," Anran said with a flat look, calm as still water. "What you've built is nothing more than a complete failure."
A failure?
Gensei clenched his teeth so hard they almost cracked. His eyes burned with fury. "Fine then, you bastard! Are you trying to make a god angry? I'll show you what divine wrath really looks like!"
He raised both arms, and the elements in the air started gathering around him. All kinds of energy wrapped around his body. Lights of many colors swirled around and then merged into a blinding white light, shining high above the square.
