Chapter 188: Chapter 170: Another 3rd Party Developer Reaches ZAGE
Zaboru sat in the backseat of his car, chuckling to himself as he reflected on the meeting with Miyagi Batteries. Kudou, who was driving, grinned and glanced at him through the rearview mirror.
"Seems they were about to reject you, Boss," Kudou said with amusement. "If it wasn't for your friend stepping in, that deal would've been dead on arrival."
Zaboru smirked. "Yeah, if not for Ryo, I would've just walked out when his father asked me to wait five minutes. They really don't understand ZAGE's worth. But I do."
Kudou chuckled. "Heh. You're becoming a good boss. Looks like we're on the road to guaranteed success, huh?"
Zaboru shook his head with a small smile. "We'll see about that."
Not long after, they arrived at the ZAGE headquarters and resumed work for the day.
Tuesday , February 4, 1992
After the meeting with Miyagi Batteries Zaboru was deep in his work, focusing on upcoming projects and fine-tuning development schedules, when he heard a knock on the door of his private workshop. It was Yumi Ichijou, his secretary. He turned toward her, slightly curious.
"What's wrong, Yumi-san?"
Yumi adjusted her glasses, her expression professional. "Boss, we have visitors. Representatives from a company called Nanco are here to meet you."
Zaboru's eyes widened slightly. "Nanco?"
The name immediately reminded him of Namco from his previous life—a company well-known for its arcade games and amusement park ventures. Were they similar in this world?
"They're a cassette tape and arcade game company, and they also own amusement parks. It seems they want to discuss something important with you," Yumi added.
Zaboru took a moment to process the information before nodding. "Alright, lead them to my office."
Yumi gave a small bow before stepping out. Zaboru straightened his attire and made his way to his office, preparing for the unexpected visit.
Within minutes, Yumi returned, escorting a friendly-looking middle-aged man into the room. The man approached Zaboru with a warm smile and extended his hand.
"Zaboru Renkonan, my name is Nando Michio, CEO of Nanco!"
Zaboru returned the handshake, smiling. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Michio-san. Please, have a seat."
Nando settled into the chair, his excitement evident. "Ren-san, I have to say—I'm a huge fan of ZEPS! I think it's the purest form of fun I've seen in years!"
Zaboru chuckled. "I appreciate the praise, Michio-san. Now, what brings the CEO of Nanco to my office today?"
Nando leaned forward slightly, his enthusiasm growing. "We at Nanco want to include our games on ZEPS! We will handle production and distribution costs ourselves—we just need ZAGE's official approval to release our games on your console!"
Zaboru raised an eyebrow. "So, Nanco is looking to become a third-party developer for ZEPS?"
Nando nodded eagerly. "Exactly! Our company isn't new to making games. We've created plenty of arcade games before, though, to be honest, they haven't been massive successes." He laughed. "That's why we want to expand to home consoles! And your ZEPS is our top choice!"
Zaboru tapped his fingers on his desk, considering the proposal. "It's a straightforward request, but there are conditions."
Nando listened intently as Zaboru continued.
"First, our quality control team will need to test and evaluate your games. If they meet our standards and are free of major bugs or technical issues, then we can proceed."
Nando nodded. "That's fair."
"Second," Zaboru continued, "ZAGE will take a platform fee of 5% of each game's sales. This fee ensures continued technical support, marketing exposure, and access to ZEPS's expanding ecosystem."
Nando didn't even hesitate. "Not a problem, Ren-san! We accept!"
Zaboru smiled slightly. "Good. I'll have my legal team draft up a proper contract, which we can finalize once everything is in place. I'll let you know once it's ready. Is that acceptable?"
Nando grinned and handed Zaboru his business card. "You can reach me by phone or visit my office anytime. Thank you, Ren-san!"
Just as the meeting seemed to be wrapping up, Nando suddenly leaned forward with a gleam in his eye.
"Ren-san, I have to ask—do you have any plans for sequels?"
Zaboru tilted his head. "Sequels?"
Nando nodded eagerly. "Yes! I absolutely love Super Mario, Pac-Man, and Sonic. I hope you have plans to release sequels for them. I'm sure many fans would be excited!"
Zaboru was momentarily taken aback. It was true—those franchises had the potential for massive expansion, just as they had in his previous life. But he hadn't officially announced anything yet.
Still, he couldn't ignore the hype surrounding those titles.
He smirked and nodded. "I will. Just stay tuned."
Nando clapped his hands together. "That's great to hear! And, who knows—maybe in the future, we can collaborate on a game together!"
Zaboru chuckled. "I'd be open to that. We'll see where things go."
With that, Nando stood up, and Zaboru escorted him to the office entrance. As Nanco's CEO left, Zaboru leaned against the doorframe, deep in thought.
With Nanco officially on board, ZAGE had secured its second third-party developer, after Akechi Akaishidan, marking yet another step forward in its growing Gaming World.
