Chapter 62: Rescue Complete

"It seems these fellows aren't the real Akatsuki," Chiyo remarked as they looked at the lifeless bodies on the ground. The eerie silence was unsettling.

"I've never heard of such a jutsu," Neji said, his Byakugan still active, scanning for any remaining threats.

"Either way, this little stunt was probably meant to buy more time. We should hurry," Kakashi said, urgency in his voice.

Far deep inside a cave, the Akatsuki were busy extracting the one-tails from Gaara. "It seems the impersonations were defeated already. We'll have to pick up the pace. Zetsu! Clean up those two," one among the Akatsuki ordered.

"Itachi. How many are there?" another member asked.

"Nine from Konoha. Among them are Hatake Kakashi, Uzumaki Naruto, the Jinchuuriki of the Nine-Tailed Fox, and Might Guy. There's also Sunagakure's adviser Chiyo—ten in total. There's one among them who may pose a threat. He single-handedly took out the impersonations in an instant. He's become rather famous in Konoha, the Third Hokage's apprentice, Daniel," Itachi reported calmly.

"Yes, especially since he also has those eyes of yours. One look at him and you'll be trapped by his genjutsu," Kisame added.

"Wasn't Sasuke with that damned slippery snake?" another member spoke, his voice filled with disdain.

"It wasn't Sasuke. And unlike Kakashi, those eyes were his," Itachi clarified.

"Hmmm, interesting. To accomplish such a feat means he's no ordinary shinobi. Also possessing the Sharingan will make things tricky," a third member mused.

Suddenly, another member spoke up. "Let me take care of our guests."

Back to the Leaf shinobi, making their way with great speed towards Gaara's location, Kakashi was having a hard time controlling Naruto's composure. "Naruto, slow down! Don't exhaust yourself before the battle begins," he called out.

"They're already finishing up," Daniel remarked, sensing Shukaku's energy fading from Gaara's body.

"Let's rest up a bit," Kakashi suggested as they stopped near a clearing.

"Come on, we're almost there!" Naruto protested, his eyes filled with desperation.

"I get that, Naruto, but we need to be fully rested when we arrive," Kakashi said, trying to reason with him. Naruto clenched his fists and grit his teeth, reluctantly agreeing.

"Anyway..." Kakashi began, but suddenly, small white spider-like objects fell from the sky, exploding upon contact with the ground. Everyone acted quickly, dodging the blasts.

"Which one of you is the Jinchuuriki?" Deidara called out, hovering above them on his clay bird.

"If you are here, then that means you need more time or..." Daniel began, looking up at Deidara.

"Hahaha! How amusing. If you're referring to that Jinchuuriki, then you're all late. He's already started to rot by now," Deidara taunted, a smug grin on his face.

"You bastard!" Naruto yelled, his eyes turning red, nails growing sharper and longer.

"So that's him... Uhh," Deidara said, but he suddenly dodged an attack that came from nowhere—a green, shining object that exploded on the mountain behind him.

"I'll keep him distracted. You guys go ahead," Daniel instructed after firing a ki blast.

"It seems I've found the other target," Deidara smirked, reaching into his bag. The others took off, trusting Daniel to handle the situation, riding Sai's super beast scroll bird mount.

"Don't think you can rely on your Sharingan to best me..." Deidara began, going on about how he had prepared to fight against Uchiha's and how genjutsu wouldn't work on him. As he rambled, Daniel pointed his two fingers at him and, with a swift motion, suddenly appeared closer to Deidara, sending him back with a punch to the gut.

"Kuaa!" Deidara flew, crashing into the trees.

"You talk too much," Daniel muttered, vanishing from Deidara's sight again.

"Say..." Deidara suddenly heard Daniel's voice next to him. He turned, finding Daniel inches from his face. "Can I get one of those Akatsuki coats?" Daniel asked.

Deidara jumped back, throwing clay bombs at Daniel. "He appeared next to me out of nowhere," he remarked, setting off the bombs. "Come on, don't be like that," Daniel said, now above Deidara. With a puff of smoke, Deidara substituted himself with one of his clay arts, which exploded violently.

Through the smoke, Daniel stood unfazed. Deidara clicked his tongue in frustration, realizing the full brunt of his attack had no effect on Daniel. "Fine, I guess I'll give up for now," Daniel said, shaking his head in disappointment.

Again, Daniel vanished from Deidara's sight. Despite being higher in the air than before, Daniel stood above him. Deidara wondered how he kept doing this. Daniel thrust his fist, stopping an inch from Deidara's face. The force from the punch sent him crashing down, reducing a portion of the forest to nothing.

Daniel teleported next to Deidara, holding him in a chokehold. From there, he fired a big ki blast, turning Deidara into dust. "Haaa, it seems the end is getting closer and closer," Daniel muttered with a sigh. "At least I finally managed to find that place," he said, teleporting away.

In a cave not far from Daniel's battle, after some time had passed, Daniel landed and saw the place in ruins. Naruto picked up Gaara as they were about to leave. Their battle with Sasori had ended, and they had obtained victory.

"Uh, you're back," Naruto remarked, his voice filled with relief.

"Before that, how's the Kazekage?" Daniel asked. The others looked down, and there was no need for words.

"I see then..." Daniel said quietly.

"Although it's still possible to save him," Chiyo interjected as they left the cave. They met up with Team Guy along the way, all taking off to find a safer location.

After reaching what they perceived as a safe distance, Chiyo asked Naruto to place Gaara down. She placed her hands on him, channeling her chakra into his body.

"This is similar to that technique Goku used to heal or save Roshi," Daniel thought, watching attentively. The energy radiating from Chiyo's hands seemed to breathe life back into Gaara, giving everyone a glimmer of hope.
