Chapter 63: New Mission
Gaara's finger flinched as he lay on the ground. His vision became hazy as he slowly opened his eyes. As more of his senses returned, he felt a warm sensation fading from his stomach, replaced by a growing sense of energy. His body felt lighter, and when he woke up, he found himself surrounded by Sand Shinobi and a few Leaf Shinobi. The Sand Shinobi cried out in joy, their hearts filled with relief and happiness at seeing their Kazekage alive. They shared a small reunion.
Naruto, however, was saddened when he heard about the jutsu Chiyo used to save Gaara. Despite the bittersweet emotions, the mission was a success. After finishing some delegations, the Leaf Shinobi returned to Konoha.
Back in Konoha, Daniel, Kakashi, and a new face stood in the Hokage's office, discussing future plans.
"From now on, Yamato will be in charge of Team 7," Lady Tsunade announced.
"I called you here because I want you and Ryuu to accompany Team 7 on their next mission," Tsunade explained.
"Why us?" Daniel muttered, curious.
"You'll get the details later from Yamato, but I assume you understand the gist of it," she replied.
"Ryuu's ability to utilize his Byakugan to manipulate chakra will be useful in suppressing the Nine-Tails in Naruto, I presume," Daniel said.
"Yes, to be more precise, he'll assist Yamato in suppressing the tailed beast in Naruto. Additionally, Sai and Ryuu will switch teams since his abilities are greatly needed in Team 7. I'm sure Sai will adapt to your team as well," Tsunade said.
"Hmmm. Yes, with time, I'm sure they'll get along well," Daniel replied.
Tsunade continued, explaining why she wanted Daniel to accompany Team 7. "Right," Daniel said after the discussion ended. The three were dismissed.
"Oh, you're already here," Daniel remarked as he and Yamato met up with Team 7. Ryuu seemed to have already acquainted himself with them.
"Daniel, what are you doing here?" Naruto asked, surprised. "And who's that next to you?" he added.
"Hi. You can call me Yamato-sensei. From now on, I'll be taking Kakashi's role for a while," Yamato introduced himself.
"Just what is going on? First, it was that crop-shirt guy, then we got Neji Two Point O, and now we have a new sensei," Naruto complained.
"Ne-Neji Two Point O!?" Ryuu's eyebrow twitched. "Another Daichi, I see," he muttered.
Daniel laughed, enjoying the playful banter. "So, changing teams, are we? I'm sure you'll miss my awesome leadership and training now that you won't be with us and all," Daniel teased Ryuu.
Ryuu smiled in relief, feeling a sense of freedom from Daniel's harsh training. "Umm, are you okay?" Sakura asked, noticing his unusual reaction.
"It's just... I'm just so happy," Ryuu replied, his eyes reflecting genuine joy.
At that moment, on a training ground in Konoha, Daichi and Hikari felt a little sad, as if they had drawn the short end of the stick. "Is something wrong?" Sai asked.
"N-No, it's fine," Hikari replied as they continued their training.
Back with Team 7, Yamato clarified the mission details and other small matters. The team scattered to pack up before departure.
After packing and preparing, Team 7 and Daniel stood at the gate of Konoha. "To think I'd be sent there of all places. I know my team gathered more important information this time around, but man, they really aren't following the script, are they?" Daniel thought, readying himself to leave. He followed behind, remaining quiet.
Their journey didn't take long for Naruto to start fussing about everything, though he was more lenient with Ryuu, perhaps because he resembled Neji, Naruto's friend. However, the differences were evident, with Naruto insisting they didn't need a replacement for Sasuke and Ryuu explaining the importance of a three-man team for optimal mission performance.
Yamato got irritated and forced everyone to take a break at a nearby hot spring. Daniel wasn't interested, so he didn't join them. After the hot spring, Yamato suggested training to get used to each other's moves. Surprisingly, since Ryuu was used to Daichi, he quickly adjusted to his new team.
"Wow, I'm impressed you actually cooperated so quickly," Yamato remarked.
"Yeah, I'm surprised too," Sakura added.
"I've had experience," Ryuu said modestly.
"Huh? What's that supposed to mean?" Naruto asked, confused.
"You resemble my previous teammate, so dealing with the likes of you is kind of a norm for me. No offense," Ryuu explained. Naruto got slightly pissed off, but overall, the group was getting along well.
The next day, Yamato, disguised as Sasori, approached the spy as planned. "Hmm, if I capture Orochimaru, I'm sure he'd just escape somehow. But the thought seems interesting," Daniel mused as Yamato approached the spy.
"Huh...!" Ryuu remarked.
"What is it?" Sakura asked.
"I sense someone," Ryuu replied.
Daniel touched his shoulder, pulling his attention. As Ryuu looked at Daniel, he saw him shaking his head, signaling not to say anything yet. "...Nothing," Ryuu said, continuing to observe.
"Huh, I can't hear a thing," Naruto complained.
"Shhh! If you keep making a ruckus, he might hear us," Sakura cautioned.
"It's fine, I can read their lips. I'll tell you later, just keep quiet," Ryuu reassured.
"Well, that's a handy skill," Naruto remarked.
"Yeah, he's really a good peeping machine," Daniel teased, angering Ryuu. This was an old subject of debate between them—Daniel's claim that the Byakugan's X-ray vision was a tool for peepers, which always heated their discussions.
As the conversation continued, a sudden change of events occurred. A certain phedo appeared on the scene, spying on them like a creep before finally revealing himself.
"My, my, what do we have here, Kabuto?" Orochimaru said, his presence alerting Yamato and causing Team 7 to tense up, especially Naruto.
If that wasn't enough, Kabuto, acting like he wanted to help Sasori, turned and tried to attack Yamato. Luckily, Yamato dodged, sustaining only minor damage.
"What... What is going on here?" Yamato remarked, standing on the other side of the bridge, his identity revealed.
