Chapter 61: Feeling Confident

"Naruto, wait up!" Sakura called as they hopped from tree to tree. Shortly after Tsunade gave the mission, both teams headed out, and along the way, they ran into Temari.

"That's the spirit, Naruto! The faster we travel, the sooner we'll arrive," Guy encouraged, matching Naruto's speed along with Lee. Temari was full of worry as they moved, soon reaching the sandy terrains as they exited the Land of Fire.

"Kankuro!" Temari burst in, her voice filled with concern. After arriving, they were informed about what had happened and that Kankuro had been injured—or more accurately, poisoned. They hurried to the medical room where he was being treated. To everyone's surprise, an old lady suddenly attacked, aiming for Kakashi. But Naruto acted fast, blocking her punch.

"What's the deal here?" he demanded, confusion and frustration in his voice. The old lady seemed to have a vendetta against Kakashi—or rather, his father. Her brother stepped in, telling her she had the wrong person. The awkward mood was broken by Kankuro groaning in pain. Everyone's eyes fixated on him, seeing how banged up he was.

"His wounds! We have to act fast now," Sakura remarked, rushing to his side. Using the mystic palm technique, she tended to his wounds, extracting the poison.

"That's some fine medical ninjutsu there. You remind me of that Slug lass. I never imagined there could arise another like her," the old lady remarked, her tone grudgingly respectful.

"Ah, thank you. Although... Well, you see, Lady Tsunade is, in fact, my mentor," Sakura said, after she had extracted most of the poison from Kankuro's body. "But still, we can't rest now. I still need to neutralize the toxins remaining in his body," she added urgently.

"But we're in a rush right now, aren't we? If we wait any longer, we might not catch up to them," Lee said, his concern evident.

"Yes, but right now we need him to lead us to their direction, so we just have to wait," Neji replied, his voice calm but resolute.

Daniel stepped up, determination in his eyes. "Then we'll have to speed things up." He stretched his hand towards Kankuro, and a greenish energy with a thin red outline glowed around his palm. The old lady tensed up in suspicion, thinking he might harm Kankuro, but then she saw his wounds start to heal rapidly.

"Cough, cough, cough. Huh..." Kankuro slowly stood up, looking much better. "I cleared up the poison and the majority of your wounds. You'll still need to rest for a day. Anyway, Gaara—I mean, the Kazekage—where did you last see him?" Daniel asked.

The others were still in awe of Daniel's healing prowess, realizing he had made all of Sakura's efforts seem almost unnecessary.

"Right. There were two guys. One of them took Gaara. Although they split up, I tore a piece of one of their clothes. You can use that to track them, but you have to be careful," Kankuro explained. "One of them uses puppets..."

"Tell me, Kankuro," Ebizo, the old lady's brother, interrupted. "Was his name..."

"Yes. He called himself Sasori of the Red Sand," Kankuro said, his voice filled with urgency. "They're strong. Really strong. Please, Leaf Shinobi, save my brother," he pleaded.

"Of course, don't worry about it," Naruto assured him. "Alright, let's get going," he said with renewed determination.

"Wait! I'm coming..." Temari began, but the old lady stopped her.

"No, you stay here and aid border security. I'll represent the Sand," the old lady, Granny Chiyo, insisted.

"But Granny Chiyo..." Temari protested, but Chiyo wasn't taking no for an answer.

"It's settled then. Let's depart at once," Daniel said as the ten vanished from the village. They traveled swiftly, hopping from tree to tree. "You can always trust the trees," Daniel thought, marveling at their presence no matter where he went in the world of Naruto.

!!!" Daniel noticed something and broke away from the group, punching a tree and shattering it to pieces. The others stopped, noticing this.

"What is it?" Kakashi asked, his voice tense.

"Someone was trying to spy on us. They know we're here," Daniel said, his tone serious.

"We'll proceed with caution," Chiyo notified the group. The others agreed. Even if they'd have to walk into a trap, they still had to save Gaara. They resumed their travel but soon ran into two obstacles.

"You again!" Naruto exclaimed, his voice filled with surprise and anger. "U-Uchiha Itachi!" he said, eyes widening.

"W-wait, you mean Sasuke's brother?" Sakura remarked, disbelief in her voice.

"It seems we've run into some troublesome foes," Sai said, his eyes narrowing.

"We meet again," Kisame said, looking at Guy.

"You... Who are you?" Guy asked, his voice filled with confusion.

"Those eyes," Chiyo remarked, her voice trembling slightly.

"I think we should part here," Daniel suggested. "Since it seems you guys have your current targets, I'll slip by them when I get the chance," he said.

"There's a useless technique—well, not completely useless—I want to try out too," Daniel thought to himself.

"Guy, quickly listen. Whatever you do, don't look at his eyes," Kakashi warned.

"That one is bold, claiming he'll pass by us when he sees an opening," Kisame said, hearing Daniel's plan.

Hearing this, Daniel couldn't help but grin. It was a challenge, then. He broke the stillness, dashing straight at them. Kisame did the same, swinging his sword to strike Daniel. But suddenly, Kisame was taken aback as if he froze for a second and couldn't move.

"Still," Daniel muttered, making a hand sign with his right hand. His eyes caught Itachi's attention as he looked at him. Daniel went low, avoiding Kisame's blade, and took the opportunity to strike his abdomen with a powerful palm strike. "I'm not one..." Daniel muttered as he quickly shifted his gaze towards Itachi, their Sharingan locking onto each other. Itachi also became immobilized.

In a fluid motion, Daniel flipped while still low. Kisame was pushed off and had a small blue orb where Daniel struck him that grew brighter and brighter. With his right hand, Daniel touched the ground, using the momentum to face forward again and strike Itachi with a mighty kick. Both Kisame and Itachi were sent flying simultaneously. The orbs where Daniel had struck them lit up and exploded, sending them crashing to the ground.

"And here I thought to myself that I'd just skip this one," Daniel muttered, ticked off by Kisame's remark.

"Your younger generation sure are something," Chiyo remarked, her voice filled with awe.

"Ah! Guys, look," Neji said after a moment, pointing towards the fallen enemies.
