Chapter 07-Do you really think you can turn over?
“Isn’t this rather splendid?” Lilyss held aloft a black top hat.
Truly, the teacher possesses remarkable potential! He exudes a certain scholarly essence.
Undoubtedly quite handsome.
Lyle gave his sapphire crystal amulet at his waist a gentle sway.
Clad in a pristine white dress shirt, adorned with a gleaming golden tie pin, and enveloped in a dignified black overcoat.
“It’s somewhat uncomfortable…”
Lilyss’s crimson-tipped pointed ears quivered as she spoke, “The first impression carries great weight, dear teacher. Your previous demeanor was undeniably marked by excessive pessimism, and most individuals are disinclined to associate with those who appear disheveled.”
“I’m not disheveled; I diligently brush my teeth three times a day!”
“I mean to say, presentation matters!”
Lilyss declared with an air of exasperation, “It’s no wonder you aspired to be a ‘flatterer,’ yet success eluded you!”
Ah, should one not expect retribution for uttering such words to their own teacher?
Quite… the stimulating experience!
She discreetly tucked a pair of round-framed eyeglasses into her purse.
Lyle glanced at the bill, his expression filled with doubt.
It does seem rather pricey…
“Do you perhaps receive a commission from this establishment?” he inquired.
“How could that be! Teacher, what are you thinking?” Lilyss replied, her ears flushed.
“But your ears have turned red,” Lyle pointed out.
“That’s just shyness! It’s just shyness!” Lilyss huffed, brandishing her clenched fists in an “I’ll pummel you” manner.
As the two exited the clothing store, it was apparent that they had attracted more attention than usual.
The increased scrutiny from onlookers was noticeably more than usual. Lyle felt somewhat uncomfortable and pulled his black hat down slightly.
Lilyss rummaged in her small bag at her side, retrieving a commission notice.
“We should head to this place first, the ‘Oak Tavern,’ to be precise. Their fourth-level brewmaster recently retired.”
However, on their way, they encountered Emiliya, the priestess who had come looking for Lyle earlier.
To be honest, Xiyaa’s temperament was truly foul. She stormed off like a cat whose tail had been stepped on when asked to apologize.
Emiliya had silently cursed her countless times in her heart, branding her as despicable.
When she saw Lyle and Lilyss approaching, she was taken aback.
Why would you dress up like this?
Do you really think changing your clothes will change your fortune?
I won’t give in to your advances, so you’re here for thrills, huh? And those cursed pointed ears!
“Lyle!”
Emiliya immediately lifted her dress and hurried over, her face marked with deep weariness.
“Lyle, I was worried you had nowhere to stay. I’ve been searching for you for a while now, and you didn’t bring anything with you—no clothes, toiletries, nothing.”
Lyle opened his mouth and replied, “It’s alright, I’m fine.”
“When are you coming back?”
Emiliya’s eyes welled up with tears again.
Lyle sighed, “Emiliya, don’t be like this.” Emiliya wiped her eyes and asked, “Are you looking for a job, Lyle?”
“Well, sort of,” Lyle replied.
Lilyss blinked but remained silent.
“Can I come with you to check it out?
At least, at least, I hope to see you well during the time before you come back,” Emiliya said, on the verge of tears, looking pitiful.
Lyle fell silent for a moment.
Had he not noticed before how concerned Emiliya was for him, or was it because she valued her teammate of two years more than Lyle himself?
The priestess’s acting skills were impeccable, with almost tears hanging on her long eyelashes.
The Oak Tavern. The owner was a bearded man. He politely invited the three of them to sit down when he heard Lilyss say she had brought a sixth-level brewer.
“I’ve brought you a Level Six brewer!”
Lilyss emphasized with a finger, “Level Six! Level Six, I tell you!”
“Are you joking?” Wilson furrowed his brow.
“I’ve only seen up to Level Four brewers, and I’ve never heard of a Level Six brewer in all of Eiovar.” He glanced at the man next to him, but he didn’t immediately leave.
Lilyss’s presentation had some effect.
“I’m not lying to you!”
Lilyss scratched her ear and touched her bag. It was then that she remembered Lyle had deactivated his scholar status at the Adventurer’s Association.
The parchment had been archived and was not brought with them. Well, when you put it that way, it did seem rather challenging to convince people.
Emiliya noticed her embarrassment and began to form a suspicion. Brewing? Lyle did know how to brew, that was true. Every time the three of them went to the hot springs, they would enjoy a glass of wine.
Just because they didn’t let Lyle drink didn’t mean they abstained themselves. But the real issue was whether Lilyss believed that this would be enough to find work at a tavern.
Emiliya furrowed her brows deeply.
“Lyle is a scholar of our Moonlight Blossom, you know. Be a bit more polite.”
Wilson shook his head. “What does Moonlight Blossom have to do with me? I’m just a liquor seller. I’m not looking for scholars; I want to see his brewing skills.”
“You…”
The priestess pondered for a moment and saw the reason in his words.
“Lyle?”
Lyle smiled and nodded, indicating his understanding.
He looked around and noticed that the armored adventurers were enjoying their drinks, but they were all fruit, grain, and wheat-based beverages.
“Your drinks, are they all brewed?” Wilson glanced at him and replied, “Fruits, grains, wheat, and such.”
Lyle extended his finger to tap the glass.
“I think I understand now why my life skill is at Level Six.”
To be honest, his brewing skills were far from exquisite. But his rating was indeed the highest at level six.
So, the criteria for evaluation… should be innovation, right?
In a world where everyone used traditional brewing methods, the knowledge in his mind was indeed a groundbreaking theory.
Wilson rolled his eyes.
He had been brewing for twenty years, and his Brewing skill was only at level three. Level six?
Give me a break. Why don’t you say all your life skills are at level six?
Lyle pondered for a moment.
“Have you ever thought about concentrating the alcohol content and aromatic compounds by taking advantage of the different boiling points of water and alcohol?”
Wilson furrowed his brow. “I don’t understand, what are you talking about?”
“Between water and alcohol, which one is easier to boil?”
“Alcohol, of course.”
Lyle’s pupils constricted. “So, there must be a suitable temperature in between to separate the alcohol from the water.”
“Why?”
Lyle rubbed his forehead. “With this method, you can create a type of strong liquor you’ve never tasted before, but the specifics are beyond your comprehension.”
Distillation, a commonly used method for separating and purifying liquid mixtures, started to form in Wilson’s mind, though he still couldn’t fully grasp it. The concept of distilled spirits was introduced to him for the first time.
Lilyss, on the other hand, remained completely puzzled.
But she knew that now was the time to show admiration in her eyes. Impressive, Teacher!
“But how do you control this temperature and collect the alcohol? That’s the question,” Lyle smiled. “Only I know that.”
Wilson thought for a while. “I can let you give it a try. If it meets my satisfaction, how about fifty gold coins a month?”
Lyle pondered for a moment.
This groundbreaking concept couldn’t be bought for fifty gold coins. Perhaps it would be best to create a physical demonstration for him to see first.
Emiliya frowned. “Fifty gold coins? Lyle makes five to six hundred gold coins on each dungeon expedition we go on! Are you trying to insult him?”
Wilson shook his head. “Of course, it can’t compare to adventuring, but fifty gold coins is still quite generous. In the Dreaming Town, you can get a succubus for only two gold coins.”
Lyle was taken aback.
“Only two gold coins? No, I mean, we can discuss the price later. I’ll need to show you the actual product first.”
“Agreed.”
Lyle shook hands with Wilson and then adjusted his hat.
“I’ll come by tomorrow. I need to prepare some things.”
A pleasant interview.
Emiliya subconsciously wanted to bite her finger.
What kind of water and alcohol temperature was that? She didn’t really understand it.
Lyle, do you seriously think you can make a comeback? Brewing? After leaving Moonlit Blossom, you’re really nothing.
You don’t actually think there are few people who want to serve me, do you? I’ve said it before, being my tool is an honor.
