Chapter 05-The Seventeen-athlete Scholar
Following Lyle’s departure from “Moonlight Blossom,” the first issue they faced was breakfast.
The three of them had their biological clocks impeccably synchronized by Lyle’s care.
When it was time, they would awaken and habitually descend the stairs to savor a delectable morning repast.
Within the now desolate mansion, the trio exchanged wordless glances.
It was only at this moment that the absence of Lyle became acutely apparent. The once fragrant and inviting kitchen now lay in eerie silence.
Emiliya, showing initiative, courageously embarked on preparing breakfast. Meanwhile, Xiya sat with an icy countenance. It was unmistakable that Floro and Emiliya exchanged subtle, meaningful glances in Xiya’s direction.
Why had their circumstances devolved to this point? Was it all because of Xiya’s utterance, merely suggesting that a bit more effort could propel them to reach the forty-fifth level?
Had she committed some grievous mistake?
After all, they had relied on each other within the depths of the underground labyrinth for two years. Could a single statement of withdrawal truly nullify all their experiences?
“Come, please sample what I’ve prepared,” Emiliya uttered as she emerged bearing two plates.
Xiya cast her gaze downward, observing the breakfast arrangement set before her.
Indeed, it stood worlds apart from Lyle’s culinary creations. Lyle had possessed an intuitive understanding of her preferences and aversions, even knowing she abstained from eggs in the morning.
He would ensure the milk was warmed to the optimal temperature for immediate consumption.
“I shall give it a try,” Xiya murmured.
The candid mage, Floro, took a bite and chewed thoughtfully. She then calmly reached for a napkin and wiped her mouth. “How is it?” asked the priestess with her fists clenched, her eyes shimmering.
Floro nodded. “Delicious. You should try it.”
“Really?”
Emiliya quickly tasted it with a spoon. After a moment, she gently set down the utensil.
“I’ll go find Lyle and apologize to Xiya. Lyle wouldn’t actually be upset with you.”
Xiya abruptly responded, “No!”
—
The Adventurer’s Guild was a grand and opulent establishment, exuding an imposing presence. In the square at the front entrance, a fountain stood tall, featuring a lifelike statue of a goddess.
When Lyle entered the hall, he found it to be rather empty, devoid of any clients. Behind the front desk was a fair-haired elven maiden, who was sound asleep, her head resting on the counter.
Noticing a presence, the elf’s pointed ears twitched. She looked rather cute, and Lyle briefly contemplated petting her.
She groggily covered half of her face with her hand and sat up, taking a while to recognize the figure before her.
“Are you… the scholar from Moonlight Blossom?”
Lyle paused, surprised. “You know me?”
“We have records of famous adventurer groups here.”
Lyle nodded. “I’m here to process my withdrawal from the group.”
The elven maiden gave him a sidelong glance. It seemed like he had been kicked out…
It seems like you were kicked out… Probably to save face, they claimed it was voluntary withdrawal, right?
But I understand; Moonlight Blossom’s reputation is growing, and Xiya, being a beauty, has attracted many eyes to the scholar’s position.
The competition for positions in higher-tier adventurer groups is indeed fierce.
She lazily stretched her supple waist. “You’ll need the guild leader’s documentation for Moonlight Blossom.”
Lyle considered it. “Then let’s proceed with the cancellation.”
“Are you sure? Once you cancel your membership with the Adventurer’s Guild, your progress in the dungeons you’ve explored will be reset.
If you want to re-register, you’ll start at level 1.”
Lyle nodded resolutely. “I’m sure, cancel it.”
The elven maiden yawned and, still half-asleep, leafed through some documents.
“You need to update your abilities, too. It’s been two years since you last came here.”
She chuckled. “Every time Moonlight Blossom returns from the dungeon, they come here first to update their abilities. Except for you, who only came once for registration and never again.”
Lyle sighed. “It’s pointless. I don’t possess any scholar skills or talents, so there’s no need to come and feel miserable.”
Moreover, he didn’t have the time. He usually went to the marketplace immediately to sell materials.
“Well, hold on a moment.”
She rummaged through a drawer for a while, then pulled out a dark parchment.
Lyle rolled up his sleeve, and the elven maiden wrapped the parchment around his arm.
“What are your plans for the future?”
She noticed that this scholar was rather good-looking and lacked the arrogance most scholars displayed, so she couldn’t help but engage in a bit more conversation.
Lyle contemplated for a moment. “Let’s travel around.”
“Sure… alright.”
The elven maiden picked up the parchment, lowered her head to examine it, and noticed that the parchment was filled with tiny, minuscule text. Huh? It seems like there are many more words today compared to usual?
【LV-44】
【Moonlight Blossom】
【Lyle Griffinhart】
【Scholar】
【Strength: 7】
【Endurance: 7】
【Intelligence: 15】
【Talent: ???】
【Skills】: Level 6 Bread Making, Level 6 Cooking, Level 6 Mining, Level 6 Gardening, Level 6 Woodworking, Level 6 Brewing, Level 6 Tailoring, Level 6 Alchemy, Level 6 Fishing, Level 6 Goldsmithing, Level 6 Blacksmithing…
The elven maiden’s mind went blank for a moment. One… two… three… seventeen Legendary-level skills?!
She rubbed her eyes and then ripped the parchment with a crinkling sound.
Lyle: “…”
Have my abilities deteriorated to the point where even the Adventurer’s Guild’s front desk can’t stand it?
“I made a mistake just now; I wasn’t fully awake. Let’s try again.”
“Oh.” The elven lady at the counter was left utterly dumbfounded.
“What’s wrong?” Beryl asked.
“Um, you should take a look yourself.” She pointed to the parchment.
Beryl inspected it and asked, “Is there an issue?”
The elven lady widened her eyes in an adorable manner and exclaimed, “Seventeen legendary skills! Are you sure this is alright?”
“They are all life skills. Xiya has always encouraged me to excel in them,” Beryl replied calmly.
Beryl hesitated for a moment and added, “Life skills aren’t particularly challenging. I’d prefer to trade all these life skills for a scholar’s talent or skill, even the lowest-tier ones.”
In this regard, Beryl was grateful to Xiya. He had spent two years mastering life skills to ensure he could meet any unusual requests that might arise.
The elven lady’s chest rose and fell as she pointed to the parchment.
“How long did it take you to reach level six in cooking?”
“Three months.”
“Gardening?”
“About three months as well.”
“What about alchemy?”
“That took a bit longer, over a year for learning and experimenting.”
“Bread-making?”
Beryl pondered briefly. “Two days.”
The elven lady was on the verge of tears.
This guy was absolutely ridiculous.
As a part-time worker, none of her life skills were above level two! Could this fellow be intentionally showing off?
“It’s a shame you still don’t have any scholar skills or talents,” Beryl sighed.
Many scholar skills required formal training at a university and couldn’t be learned from mere textbooks. Moreover, he didn’t even have a talent, just three question marks. Essentially, he had nothing.
“How on earth did you achieve so many life skills?” she asked incredulously.
Beryl fell silent for a moment and replied with a somewhat random statement, “Every university has its share of certificate enthusiasts.”
“The Certificate Maniac: My University Life Wasn’t in Vain,” was a well-known book.
Of course, Xiya’s attitude was even more classic: “Having a Master’s degree from a 985 university is superior to all. I’ve seen many certificate enthusiasts, and the certificates they obtain aren’t worth much; it’s just a hobby.”
Iofar’s Academy was a 985 university, and the elven lady was truly astonished. It seemed like Beryl didn’t understand the concept of legendary-level life skills.
A level six in cooking could get him a job at the top restaurants in Iofar. Level six in brewing meant he could brew barrels of wine for the Adventurer’s Tavern every month, raking in heaps of gold coins. As for level six alchemy, it was terrifying. He could even teach it in a classroom.
With all these skills, he chose to be a “licking dog.”
Did Beryl have some sort of problem? And if he couldn’t get Xiya, did she have some sort of issue too?
