Abyss Sequence

Chapter 62: Caught in the Act

The trading interaction brought harmony to the relationship between Julia and Sasa.

Sasa even invited Julia and her sister, Suniya, into their armored vehicle for a visit.

Since the driver's seat only had two positions, Julia and her sister had to sit in the back compartment.

Although the experiment table had been cleaned, traces of blood and hair still testified to past events that occurred there.

To entertain Julia and Suniya, Sasa took out her most prized fast food.

This high-calorie food can capture anyone's heart; once tasted, it will be unforgettable, prompting cravings unexpectedly over time.

The perfectly blended spices emitted a tantalizing aroma that even elves couldn't resist.

Last time Yan Luo encountered Julia, he realized that elves in this world are not vegetarians; they eat meat and do so voraciously.

Given their size, unless there's a fruit or vegetable in this world that supplements trace elements found only in meat, they couldn't possibly grow so tall just on a plant-based diet.

Interestingly, Aquinas also has a tall stature, standing around 1.95 meters.

This roughly confirms that elves generally have tall physiques; however, whether male elves are taller than females needs more observation.

Julia and Suniya ate joyfully, showing no resistance to spicy flavors; even with the spicy broth, they lifted the noodle cups to drink the soup.

"Is all your food like this?" Suniya curiously asked.

Sasa smiled and shook her head, "This is just fast food, convenient for people like us who venture outdoors, just to fill our stomachs. There is far more delicious food where we come from, a thousand times better than what you just had."

To be honest, Julia and Suniya didn't find Sasa's noodles particularly tasty, driven by novelty rather than flavor.

However, they had to admit the taste was 'good' enough for them.

Hearing that there are even more delicious foods in the human world compared to the noodles, Suniya found it hard to imagine.

The elf society certainly has good food, but most of it was beyond the reach of forest scouts like them, and what little they had didn't compare to the noodles.

No wonder humans admire change so much.

Julia silently observed the decoration and instruments inside the vehicle, many of which she couldn't comprehend, as they were purely mechanical without any support from magic power.

After severing ties with the Abyss, humans must have gone through a time without magic power, and perhaps these inventions developed during that period.

The technology of these items was visibly advanced, certainly surpassing the utility of similar objects owned by elves.

The weapon Yan Luo gifted to Suniya wasn't the only one; he also had two spare weapons and many 'arrows,' enough to support him in a war.

Humans also possess spatial tools, as Julia had seen Sasa retrieve things from them.

The atmosphere inside the vehicle was very congenial, and while Sasa and Julia were exchanging knowledge and having a lively chat, the onboard radar emitted an alarm.

[Alert! High-energy reaction detected! Alert! High-energy reaction detected!]

A target was marked on the radar screen. Yan Luo glanced over, feeling his heart sink.

"City-breaking level demon."

Although he had the initial capability to contend with a city-breaking level demon, Yan Luo was not completely sure he could survive such an encounter.

Moreover, Sasa was still present, and he couldn't guarantee he would have the capacity to protect her during the battle with the city-breaking level demon.

Therefore, Yan Luo jerked the steering wheel and stepped on the gas to speed the armored vehicle away from the city-breaking level demon.

"What happened?" Julia asked in astonishment.

She sensed that something crucial must have occurred; otherwise, such an alarm wouldn't sound like a warning bell.

Seizing this opportunity, Sasa decided to delve deeper with Julia into topics like the classification levels for demons in both worlds.

"The armored vehicle has detected a city-breaking level demon. We can't handle it, so we're fleeing."

Listening to Sasa's explanation, Julia quickly began translating the information in her mind.

Soon she realized that the classification system for demons in both worlds had some similarities.

Their level one corresponded to the human's regular level, level two to the dangerous level, level three to the lethal level, while city-breaking corresponded to level four, catastrophe level to five, and doomsday level to six.

Julia realized that the human world probably hadn't encountered level seven monsters yet.

She wondered if this was a good or bad thing.

While Sasa and Julia exchanged information, Yan Luo, staring at the relentlessly pursuing radar blip, couldn't help but click his tongue.

"Sasa, help me retrieve the thermal axe and get its preheating started!"

"Got it!"

Sasa responded, turning to get the thermal axe from the space box along with its weapon case.

Pressing the preheat button, Sasa apologized to Julia and moved into the driver's seat.

"What about now? Do you need me to drive?"

Hearing this, Yan Luo shook his head, "No, let the onboard terminal take over. Just control the direction of the armored vehicle. After I leave, you can let the vehicle slow down a bit to avoid hitting obstacles."

"Don't worry, leave it to me!" Sasa thumped his chest soundly.

Yan Luo transferred the driving authority to the onboard terminal, then moved to the rear compartment and picked up the thermal axe.

Bam!

The rear door suddenly burst open. Yan Luo took a deep breath, pulled the thermal axe from the weapon case, slung two spare axe blades over his back, and jumped out of the vehicle.

Yan Luo's feet plowed two deep gouges into the ground before he stood tall, gripping the thermal axe, facing the city-breaking level demon charging from the front.

His fingers tightened involuntarily around the axe handle, as the scalding heat of his blood seemed to rise once more, causing Yan Luo's whole body to boil.

The city-breaking level demon chasing from behind was a giant armadillo, its scales like steel, appearing somewhat ugly, but Yan Luo did not underestimate its defensive capacity.

Normal city-breaking level demons could defend against rocket attacks with just their skin and muscle, let alone this defense-specialized city-breaking level demon.

The giant armadillo stood only four meters tall, but its body length was likely twelve meters!

Even so, for Yan Luo, it remained a giant beast.

Sasa controlled the closing of the rear door, watching Yan Luo and the giant armadillo through the vehicle's external camera.

Julia and Suniya crowded over to watch with Sasa.

Suniya gripped a shotgun, worried, "Is he taking on a level four demon all by himself?"

Although Julia was also somewhat concerned, she had no recourse.

They were only level three, categorized as 'veterans,' but in front of a level four demon, their powers were too weak.

How strong was Yan Luo, who hadn't shown his full power before? Could he defeat a level four demon?

Sasa and the others were watching; Yan Luo was also contemplating.

He didn't need to exert full force against lethal level demons anymore, so he didn't know the extent of his full strength.

Now was the right time to find out—

Yan Luo dug his foot into the soil and suddenly exhaled white steam from his mouth and nose.

His body temperature was rising rapidly, his breath condensing into steam and puffing out as white smoke in the cold air.

—Boom!

The ground beneath Yan Luo shattered with a loud bang, spewing dirt into the air, yet Yan Luo vanished from sight.

Almost simultaneously, Yan Luo's foot landed on the ground right in front of the giant armadillo, causing a sudden depression, lending its might to Yan Luo as he turned, swung, and brought the thermal axe slashing down.

The head of the giant armadillo, having just reached Yan Luo, suddenly plummeted, its scales and bone plates shattered.

Heat radiation instantly poured into the giant armadillo's body through the cracks, forcing it to lift its head and utter a horrendous cry.

Yan Luo was swung into the air, but rather than feeling downcast, he laughed joyfully.

Proof showed that he had the preliminary strength to deal damage to city-breaking level demons!

Once its defense was breached, was it still hard to kill these beasts?!
