Chapter 152: New Party Member Added: Oshan River
Oshan looked equally shocked, though a faint smile crept across her face.
"So this sir has been touching everything in the mansion. He's not just a looter— he's a corpse stealer."
Sid laughed, completely unbothered.
"Hey, don't judge me! In an apocalypse, everything not nailed down is loot!"
Still grinning, Sid turned back toward the tunnel entrance.
"Alright, let's move before more dead people wake up and complain I took their stuff."
The secret pathway wound endlessly beneath the mansion, twisting and branching in every direction like an underground maze. Sid kept glancing down each corridor as they passed, muttering that the place looked like a randomized dungeon map. Every time he thought they were lost, Evelise would confidently take a turn, always knowing which way led where.
"This one goes to the old pantry tunnels."
She murmured, brushing her fingers against the wall as she led the way.
"That one leads toward the crypts. We don't go there."
Sid made a face.
"Yeah, no thanks. I've had enough undead for one day."
Evelise gave a small smile.
"Then follow me, because this next path— this one leads outside."
After several more turns, the air began to change. It grew lighter, fresher. The faint sound of wind and rustling leaves reached their ears. When Evelise pushed open the heavy stone hatch at the end of the tunnel, the trio stepped out into the forest— the Freelands Woods. The trees here were tall and thick, their leaves glinting with dew under the pale moonlight. They were on the northern edge, high above the valley where Sid's cabin waited far to the south. Sid inhaled deeply, relieved.
"Finally, air that doesn't smell like zombies."
Evelise chuckled softly and adjusted the strap of her heavy shoulder bag.
"Come on. The cabin isn't too far. We can make it there before dawn."
As they walked, Oshan hugged Sid's jacket tightly around her shoulders, though it did little to ease her discomfort.
"Lady Evelise…"
Oshan murmured, her powerful legs moving silently through the undergrowth.
"I... I feel… strange. still feel cold. So intensely cold. Like I am icy. It's like ice under my skin."
She rubbed her arms, her exposed skin under the moonlight a startling, faint gray hue. Evelise sighed softly, understanding completely.
"That's normal, Oshan. I felt the same when I first woke up after being revived. My body wasn't warm either. But over time… it changed. I became human again."
She looked at Sid, then back at Oshan.
"And I think it's because of him. I don't know what kind of magic or power Sid has, but without him, I would've never felt warmth again."
Evelise explained everything: how she had felt the constant, chilling presence of death, how her skin had been that same icy gray, and how she had no idea what kind of "magic" or skill Sid possessed, but that without his work, she would never have recovered her warmth and her human skin tone.
"It took time, Oshan. But trust me."
Evelise said, glancing back at the limping Sid.
"Just let Sid... do his works to let you become human again."
Oshan paused, her massive, perfect form turning toward her Lady.
"If Lady Evelise, with all her knowledge and caution, can trust a man like this... then it means he is exceptionally trustworthy."
She nodded, a promise in her deep voice.
"Then I shall trust Sir Sid too."
She looked down at her massive, icy gray thighs, visible beneath the hem of Sid's jacket.
"It's just... this skin. This cold, gray skin. It makes my skin crawl. It's like I'm a freaking corpse."
Sid, jogging alongside them, overheard the last bit. He didn't miss a beat.
"You were a corpse, Oshan."
Sid deadpanned.
"A very large, aggressive, red pantied corpse."
Oshan stared at him for a beat, processing the blunt statement, then a slow, rumbling chuckle escaped her throat. Even Evelise couldn't help but laugh lightly at the absurdity of the situation. Their laughter faded into the night as they continued their journey south. The wind whispered through the trees, and the faint light of dawn began to touch the sky. Together, the three of them made their way back through the Freelands Woods toward the small cabin that had become their only home in a world reclaimed by the wild.
By the time they reached the cabin, exhaustion had fully settled over them. The air was cool and still, the faint light of dawn creeping through the forest canopy. Sid dragged his tired feet across the wooden floor, every muscle in his body aching. Evelise looked just as worn out, though she still carried that natural grace in her movements. Oshan immediately took charge, guiding her Lady toward the bedroom.
"Rest, my Lady."
Oshan said softly, helping Evelise sit down on the bed.
"You've done enough for tonight."
Evelise shook her head weakly.
"No… Sid's knee. I should check it again."
She glanced toward him, worry in her tired eyes.
"I have the tools and herbs ready, but he shouldn't rely too much on healing. Rest is still the best medicine."
Sid gave a small grin and waved her off.
"Don't worry. I'll rest. Promise."
The trio soon went their separate ways. Evelise disappeared into her room, Oshan staying behind to make sure she was settled comfortably. Meanwhile, Sid collapsed in the living room and summoned his loot from earlier. With a simple motion, all the items he had collected from Evelise's mansion materialized around him—the soft mattress, fluffy pillows, and clean sheets. He built himself a cozy sleeping spot right there in the center of the room.
He laid back with a sigh, stretching his sore limbs and muttered.
"Ohhh… this is heaven! Finally, a soft bed and not some cold, wooden floor with a backpack for a pillow."
He smiled faintly to himself, staring at the ceiling.
"Going to that mayor's mansion might've been the best idea I've had in days… tons of loot, comfy bed, and, well… an SSR zombie knight. Yeah. Totally worth it."
His eyes were starting to close when he heard slow, careful footsteps.
Oshan stepped out from Evelise's room, her tall frame moving quietly through the dim light. She stopped near the doorway and looked at him for a long moment before speaking.
"Sir Sid."
She said, her deep voice calm but sincere.
"Thank you. For what you've done for Lady Evelise. Reviving her… giving her a second life. She might act sharp, but she's kind— kinder than she lets people see."
Sid looked up at her and smiled.
"Yeah… I can tell. She's stubborn, but she's got a good heart. Guess that's what makes her worth all the trouble."
A small smile tugged at Oshan's lips. She gave a slight bow.
"Then allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Oshan River— personal knight guard of Lady Evelise."
Sid sat up a little, raising an eyebrow.
"Oshan River, huh? So your name really matches your hair and eyes—blue like the ocean."
Right on cue, a blue notification blinked into his vision:
[New Party Member Added: Oshan River]
Then another screen followed, shimmering faintly in the air.
[PROFILE]

"Ninety. Centimeters. You're two centimeters taller than me. Damn, no wonder I felt like you could crush me in half."
Oshan chuckled softly.
"My apologies, sir, if I was hostile to you back then…"
"Nah."
Sid said, waving it off.
"That's just how the devs programmed you—to be a goddamn zombie on duty."
Oshan smiled faintly.
"You were holding your own quite well back then."
"LOL. Barely."
Sid said with a tired grin. He looked at the glowing screen again.
"Still… this party's shaping up pretty good. Me as the core, Evelise the healer, and you as the tank. Not bad for a post-apocalypse team, huh?"
Before Oshan could answer, a sharp voice rang out from inside the bedroom.
"Oshan! Where are you? Get in here before that perverted necrophile tries something weird again!"
Sid's eyes went wide.
"Wha— what the hell!? I didn't even do anything!"
Oshan burst out laughing for the first time since being revived, shaking her head.
"Goodnight, Sid."
She turned and went back into Evelise's room, still chuckling under her breath. Sid groaned, throwing an arm over his face.
"Unbelievable. I save lives, fight monsters, and somehow end up branded as the creepy guy."
But despite the complaint, a smile crept across his lips. Within minutes, the weight of exhaustion pulled him under, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Sid fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.
However….
Sid stirred from his slumber, his consciousness slowly dragging him back to the waking world. His vision was still hazy, and his thoughts sluggish, but there was an undeniable sensation that demanded his attention. Warmth enveloped him, a wet, velvety softness that sent shivers down his spine. As his eyes fluttered open, he found himself staring down at a familiar head bobbing between his legs.
