Zombie Girls Revival System

Chapter 149: Escaping the Haunted Mansion.

Sid scanning the corridor.

"We're heading back to the cabin."

Evelise nodded immediately, her voice steady but urgent.

"Agreed. We can't fight all of them here."

Oshan turned to lead the way, her hand gripping the doorknob, but Sid suddenly stopped her.

"Hold on. Rule number one of the apocalypse— you don't leave a place without looting it."

Evelise blinked, confused for a second, before realizing what he meant. Sid opened his inventory menu, and within moments, the room was filled with bursts of light. The mattress vanished first, followed by the pillows, books, curtains, and anything else of value. Evelise's personal items disappeared one after another, drawn into his teleporting inventory system in seconds.

"Hey!"

Evelise protested, half laughing.

"You could've asked before looting everything! This is my room, you know."

Sid shot her a sly grin.

"Well, I need this stuff too. Especially the bed. I can't just let you sleep comfortably while I crash on the floor, right?"

Before she could reply, glass shattered behind them. A ghoul hurled itself through the window, landing with a roar. Sid didn't hesitate— he slammed the chamber door shut, trapping the creature inside.

"Problem solved."

He muttered. Oshan immediately took point, lifting the same heavy shield she once used against Sid.

"Stay behind me."

The three moved fast through the corridor. Zombies were already climbing through broken windows, their shrieks echoing through the mansion's halls. Oshan swung her shield with brutal force, smashing back every ghoul that tried to get close.

"Damn!"

Sid said between breaths, glancing at her.

"Having this giant tank around makes things a hell of a lot easier. I just freaking revived a defender!"

Evelise laughed, even in the rush.

"Good! Maybe now you can rest that bad knee for once."

Sid shot her a quick grin.

"And you can always heal me! That's your job, remember? I'm the core, you're the medic, and she's the shield!"

Their bickering fueled their momentum. They reached the top of the staircase and began their descent just as the horde filled the ground floor. They stepped down onto the final marble step, their feet hitting the grand hall floor the moment the enormous main doors burst open. The waiting zombies, thousands of them— spilled inside like a black, terrifying flood.

"This way!"

Evelise shouted, already veering left toward the darker wings of the manor.

"I know a safer route out! It's one of the old service tunnels!"

Sid nodded, tightening his grip on his weapon.

"Then go on, sneaking master. Lead the way!"

Oshan let out a short mettalic chuckle from behind her visor bracing her massive shield against the chaos, protecting their retreat. The three allies vanished into the shadows of the mansion, racing toward the unexpected escape route.

Evelise, clutching her heavy bag, dove into the dark, ornate corridor to the left of the staircase. Oshan immediately followed, her shield arm brushing the wall, creating a massive, moving steel barrier. Sid limped quickly behind them, his renewed knee holding up under the strain.

Evelise led them down a twisting, unfurnished hallway that quickly ended in a section of solid stone wall. They skidded to a stop in the stifling darkness. Sid stared at the granite wall, panting.

"Alright, Sneaking Master, what's the plan? Are we gonna charge it? Maybe we run at the wall like Parry Hotter running through the magical barrier to get to the train station?"

Evelise snapped her head toward him, exasperated.

"Do I look that dumb to you? You think I dragged us here just to admire a wall while the zombies chew our legs off?"

Sid raised his hands defensively.

"Just saying, wouldn't be the weirdest thing that's happened tonight."

Evelise exhaled hard, brushing a lock of hair from her face.

"We need something. The mechanism won't open without light."

She pointed to a series of empty, ornate metal holders lining the wall, a row of deactivated lantern brackets.

"There are lanterns here— we have to ignite them."

Without hesitation, Sid and Oshan scanned the area. It didn't take long before both noticed movement— two night guards staggering toward them from opposite sides, each holding an iron lantern with faint, flickering flames. The undead guards snarled, their armor clanking as they advanced.

"On your right!"

Sid warned. Oshan reacted instantly. She lunged forward and slammed her shield with tremendous force. The impact was so strong that the knight's helmet crumpled inward, flattening its skull like tin. The body collapsed, and Oshan grabbed the lantern before it hit the ground. Simultaneously, Sid spun the Mouse Wheel to summon his Axe.

"Inventory: Axe!"

He shouted. The weapon materialized in his grip, gleaming in the dim light. He swung with brutal precision, burying the blade deep into the knight's head. He then twisted the axe, slicing through the brain tissue and ensuring the kill was instant. The zombie dropped instantly, and Sid tore the lantern free from its limp hand.

"Got it!"

"Quickly!"

Evelise called out.

"Light up all the lanterns— every single one except the one in the middle. Don't touch that one!"

Sid and Oshan obeyed instantly. They rushed down the row, igniting the wicks in the empty brackets using the flames from their acquired lanterns.

Flicker, hiss, whoosh, crackle!

Eight lanterns flared to life, casting a golden orange glow over the dusty corridor. The only bracket left dark was the central one. When the last lantern was lit and the middle one left unlit, a heavy clickechoed through the hallway. The wall trembled, and with a deep grinding noise, the center portion began to slide open, revealing a hidden stone passage. Sid blinked in disbelief, lowering his axe.

"Okay, that's officially the coolest thing I've seen all week. Who built this mansion— a game developer?"

Evelise didn't answer; she was already stepping inside.

"Hurry up, you idiot! Get inside!"

Sid laughed breathlessly and followed, Oshan right behind him. The moment they crossed the threshold, the wall slammed shut again with a thunderous thud. The zombies— ghouls and knight guards that had been chasing them didn't stop they crashed headfirst into the sealed wall, one after another, their bodies piling up against it in a mindless wave.
