Chapter 1219: The Tournament Begins
"Yuwen Luofei is actually Li Wenfeng's fiancée; I wasn't wrong after all. The Li Family is indeed planning a marriage alliance with the Ancient Martial family." Lin Tian muttered to himself, a hint of a smile appearing in his eyes.
In just one day, the students of both academies had become excited. For them, the selection tournament was an opportunity to make a name for themselves, a battle of honor.
As Lin Tian walked along the road, all he could hear were discussions about the selection tournament. Even the girls from the Female College were no exception.
They were not discussing which boy might win or who the most handsome male competitor was. Instead, they were talking about how many male competitors they plan to defeat and how far they aim to advance.
This is the difference. In regular competitions, most girls would talk about how handsome the male competitors are or how good their bodies look. However, these girls speak with their swords.
Another day passed, and today was the tournament day. Lin Tian, not yet out of bed, was awakened by the noise outside the dormitory. Amidst various clatters, there were also boisterous shouts.
When Lin Tian opened the window after getting up, he was stunned. Outside the dormitory area, in the corridor, many girls were heading towards the school gate. It wasn't the number of people that surprised him but rather their attire.
Some girls were in leather armor, others in combat suits, and some even wore full armor. Lin Tian even saw girls in full-body armor, carrying shields and single-handed swords, looking like they were armed to the teeth.
He felt like he had entered a Medieval European battlefield where all sorts of cold weapons appeared before his eyes.
"Bang bang bang..." A series of knocks on the door pulled Lin Tian back to reality. He ran to open the door, finding Xiao Manxue outside, and was once again dazzled by her outfit.
Miss was wearing her ice silk dress, holding a Huaxia longsword, looking like an ancient heroine. Just having come from a Medieval European style, Lin Tian felt as if he had traveled back to ancient Huaxia.
"Miss, is today a masquerade or a selection tournament?" Lin Tian asked, pointing at the various battle-attired girls outside, surprised.
Xiao Manxue tossed a bag to Lin Tian, saying, "Both academies have rules. To participate in such martial arts tournaments, students must wear formal battle gear to show respect for their opponents. If you show up in casual clothes, you'll be considered disrespectful and will be kicked out."
"This is a combat suit, put it on." Xiao Manxue reminded him.
Lin Tian opened it to find a set of black clothes. The material seemed peculiar, neither like silk nor leather, smooth and soft to the touch.
"A mix of Kevlar super fiber fabric, impervious to blades and arrows, very lightweight, suitable for agile warriors who use daggers, but with a clear disadvantage: it can resist sword cuts but cannot withstand a knight's warhammer." Xiao Manxue explained.
"I'm not concerned about the defense; as long as it doesn't turn into rags during the fight, I'm fine. I don't want my clothes to be torn every time I battle." Lin Tian remarked nonchalantly.
He returned to his room and quickly changed into the combat suit. The fitted design and steady black color highlighted Lin Tian's well-proportioned physique.
Xiao Manxue glanced at Lin Tian's long legs and muttered to herself. Secretary Xu was right; this jerk's legs are even longer than a woman's.
"Miss..." Lin Tian waved a hand in front of her eyes, bringing her back to her senses.
"Let's go." Xiao Manxue said, leaving the dormitory with Lin Tian.
On the road, Miss received the admiration akin to that of a celebrity. Whether it was her oriental heroine attire or her Hall of Fame honors, they drew the attention of the underclassmen.
"Who's that man next to Senior Sister? Could he be her boyfriend?"
"Senior Sister is so strong; her boyfriend must be even stronger, otherwise he wouldn't be worthy of her."
"You guys are way behind on the news. That guy's not any formidable figure; he didn't even dare to accept Carter's duel."
"Really..."
Similar discussions rang out again, recalling the previous conflict at the school gate. Whether Lin Tian had the skills became the focus of the girls' discussions.
Some said Lin Tian was modest, a hidden expert, citing that Easterners tend to be humble and low-key, plus the guy next to Senior Sister Xiao Manxue couldn't be just anyone.
Others claimed Lin Tian was a coward, pointing out his reluctance to accept challenges, which even led to debates among them.
"Lin Tian, you seem to attract attention wherever you go." Xiao Manxue said with a playful smile.
"I'd prefer some peace and quiet, if possible." Lin Tian replied helplessly.
Xiao Manxue smiled again and said, "Don't you want to prove yourself once, to change the way they perceive you?"
"I won't lose anything based on what they think. Besides, I'm not a student here and can't participate in the selection tournament anyway. I'd rather focus on my role as a doctor. With you as my personal bodyguard, this is pretty good." Lin Tian said casually.
Xiao Manxue shook her head slightly and said, "Well, some things might not go as you wish."
Lin Tian raised an eyebrow, but Xiao Manxue didn't say more, and the two walked out of the Female College and into the Knight Academy with the crowd.
The selection tournament venue was set in the campus of the Knight Academy. When Lin Tian arrived at the stadium, he found it already packed. There was no "audience seat" or seating arrangement; everyone sat on the ground.
The only seats available were for the judges on the high platform of the stadium. Five seats were there, and only five people had the honor to sit there.
Regardless of their status as spectators or participants, everyone stayed seated on the ground. However, the scene was quite orderly. Even without anyone commanding discipline, the students didn't cause an uproar.
The scene was relatively quiet, quieter than the noisy route here. It seemed everyone was quietly pondering this important match.
Amid the silence, sometimes when participants glanced at each other, one could feel a hint of tension. Everyone was holding back, and this restraint was an accumulation, a brewing that would burst into a storm of attacks on the arena.
"Ding ding ding..."
The campus bells rang, announcing the arrival of the five judges. Despite the distance, Lin Tian could clearly see Reina the Sword Saint and Mr. Mark among the five judges.
However, both were seated at the ends of the judge's bench, because the three in the middle appeared older. In the center's subsidiary seats sat two gray-haired individuals, a man and a woman, both wearing black silk robes, resembling wizards.
The central seat was occupied by the oldest man, whose hair was completely white, yet his eyes were not cloudy. Instead, they were clear and bright, as if he could see through all worldly affairs.
"What are those three in the center? Even Reina the Sword Saint had to sit aside." Lin Tian curiously asked.
