Chapter 441: Bad News, Good News
After a moment of pause, Xun Che added, "We are worried that after the second rain, the soil, water, and air might be contaminated by the virus, and we would no longer be able to use them."
When they heard the news, Fu Shenghan and his friends were stunned. Without water and soil, they might still be able to survive by depending on the ability-users.
But if even the air was contaminated with the zombie virus, then how would humans survive?
"Commander Xun, does your base have a solution for this matter?" Fu Shenghan asked.
"After the fall of the Capital Base, we have estimated that we need to build a higher wall and strengthen the defenses by recruiting more ability-users as guards and obtaining more fire weapons. Besides that, we have focused on collecting more supplies and medicines in case of being attacked by a zombie horde," Xun Che replied.
After a moment of silence, he added, "Comrade Fu, if you want, I can send soldiers and planes to pick up your people. You can stay in my base until the second rain passes."
When Fu Shenghan and his team heard this, they were taken aback. Even though they hadn't planned to build a survivor camp, they couldn't turn down the people who came seeking a safe place.
As days passed, their small settlement had suddenly turned into a survivor camp unknowingly. Now, with more and more people coming to their camp, his team could no longer sustain the supplies for everyone. It would be a better option if they could join a bigger base.
"Commander Xun, thank you for your help. I will inform the survivors and make preparations to evacuate," Fu Shenghan said without hesitation.
Hearing this, Xun Che nodded and replied, "Send your survival camp's exact location. My team will arrive tomorrow at the latest."
"Understood."
Just after they finished their conversation, the radio suddenly lost signal. The technicians quickly checked the frequency for a while before one of them said, "Commander, we lost the signal."
"Continue sending the message to inform everyone about our base's location and the second rain," Xun Che said before he left Wen Hanli.
As for the soldiers, they stayed behind to take turns sending the message. Since the radio transmission had a limited range, the technicians had to build several more radio towers to expand it.
At the same time in Sanchou City, Fu Shenghan and his team informed the guards to gather everyone in the public hall. Half an hour later, the public hall was crowded with survivors murmuring in low voices.
"Comrade, why did the leader ask us to gather today? Haven't we already received our supply for the day?" one of the survivors asked a nearby guard.
Hearing this, the guard shook his head and replied, "We were only ordered to gather everyone here."
Since even the guards knew nothing about today's agenda, the survivors grew curious while also feeling anxious.
After all, there were almost 6,000 people staying in this survivor camp, and most of them were children, elderly, or sickly adults. Without the leader and his team going out to look for supplies to support them, they wouldn't have survived this long.
Recently, they had noticed that the amount of supplies the team brought back was decreasing and becoming less with each passing day. If this situation continued, they would soon run out of supplies.
Judging from their current situation, it was understandable if the leader wanted them to go out and search for supplies. Even if he no longer wanted to provide for them, they had no right to complain.
Under the tense atmosphere, everyone waited with their hearts in their throats.
Ten minutes later, Fu Shenghan and his team finally arrived and stepped onto the stage. Standing before the crowd, he took the megaphone handed to him by one of his team members.
After turning it on, he said, "Everyone, I believe that each of you is curious about the reason we gathered here today. I have bad news and good news to share with you."
When they heard his words, the survivors looked at him with worry. They murmured for a moment before turning their full attention back to him.
Seeing that everyone had calmed down, Fu Shenghan said, "The bad news is, there will be a second rain in sixteen days, and this rain will contain a zombie virus."
"After this rain, there might be another mutation, and the number of zombies will increase. With our camp's defenses, it's impossible for us to survive if we are attacked by a zombie horde."
He paused to let the survivors process the information before continuing, "The good news is, we managed to contact the Lin'an City Base, and they will send a team and planes to help us evacuate. They are willing to accept us and let us stay there until the second rain passes."
Not long after he finished, one of the survivors raised her hand and asked, "Boss, what about our food and water? Even if they agree to let us stay there, will they agree to share their supplies with us?"
When they heard this, everyone nodded in agreement. They knew that even a family wouldn't agree to share their supplies in such a situation, let alone strangers. So they were grateful to Fu Shenghan and his team for taking them in and supporting them for so long.
Hearing this question, Fu Shenghan was stunned. During the radio conversation, he had forgotten to ask about this matter. And as the survivor said, it was impossible for them to depend entirely on the Lin'an City Base. They would still need to secure their own supplies.
He exchanged glances with his team members for a moment before saying, "Regarding the supplies, the Commander of the Lin'an City Base didn't mention anything. But after we evacuate to their base, we will find a way to collect supplies."
"Right now, the most important thing is for us to pack up and get ready. The Lin'an City Base's team will arrive tomorrow at the latest."
