Zombie Apocalypse: Creation

Chapter 645: A Cold Welcome

When Leyan woke up, it was to the alarm sound from her phone. Looking over, the baby camera had been triggered.

"Why are they up so early today?"

She quickly jumped out of the blanket, walking over to the dresser before taking out a pair of panties to put on.

With a pair of blouses and shorts from the closet, she finally headed downstairs towards the baby's room.

"M-Mommy! I-I'm hungry!" Yongyi quietly demanded, looking right towards her with both of his arms raised.

"Mommy's here. Just give me a second."

After checking that all of the other babies were still peacefully sleeping in their cribs, Leyan gently carried Yongyi out of the crib.

"Why did you wake up so early today? Did you really just feel hungrier today than yesterday?"

Leyan softly asked as she walked out of the room with Yongyi in her arms, going over to the living room sofa before sitting down.

"Y-Yeah!"

"I'm only going to feed you a little, okay? I'm going to cook porridge later, and you're going to eat that too."

Yongyi nodded as Leyan pushed her blouse aside, exposing her pinkish nipple as he immediately leaned closer ot start suckling it.

After a few minutes, the suction stopped completely as Yongyi seemed to have fallen asleep again.

Leyan didn't wake him up, letting Yongyi sleep in her arms as she walked back to the baby room before gently putting him back into his crib.

"M-Mom... I-I'm hungry."

"M-Me too."

As Leyan turned around, both Lianrong and Qiaolan were already awake, looking towards her with their arms raised.

"Just give me a second. I'll be right back."

Exiting the room and walking into the hallway, Leyan headed straight to the kitchen before opening the fridge.

All of the baby bottles were emptied, making her realize today was a Sunday, as they always had enough for the entire week.

"Crap. I need to ask them to pump it again later..."

Walking back to the baby room, Leyan gently carried Lianrong out first before carrying Qiaolan onto her right arm.

"Let's go outside first. Don't want to wake up your siblings."

After carrying the two of them to the sofa, Leyan gave them the same message she had given to Yongyi earlier.

With both of them nodding in agreement, she slowly pushed her blouse towards the middle with her finger as the two babies still rested on her arms.

"Here... Don't drink too much, okay? Yuqi and Yueyue will feed you two later."

As the two babies started suckling her nipples, her eyelid was starting to get heavier and heavier.

It was only four in the morning, way earlier than the usual six o'clock wake-up time. The sun wasn't even out yet as she looked out the window.

"Okay, that's enough..."

Leyan pulled the two away as she carried them all the way back to the baby room, tucking them into the crib before closing the door.

Walking back to the living room, she sat down on the sofa before the urge to fall asleep overwhelmed her.

---

"Leyan, you okay?"

"Hm?"

As a familiar voice woke Leyan up once again, she slowly opened her eyes, only to be shocked by the person in front of her.

"Xiaoyun!"

Leyan's brain finally processed the person in front of her as she quickly jumped up, wrapping her arms around Xiaoyun.

"Whoa! Careful... Ahem, why are you sleeping on the sofa?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as they sat down on the sofa together.

"I was feeding the baby earlier... Are you done with Shenzhen?" Leyan asked as she tightly held onto his arm.

"Yeah. Everything is back on track now... I probably won't need to head out until something crazy happens again."

"That's good, that's good... You hungry? I can go cook breakfast for you."

"I'm good. I already ate before coming back... But you should probably cook breakfast for those lazy pigs who are still sleeping."

As Leyan looked over to the clock, she immediately jumped out of her seat before turning back around to sit down again.

"You almost scared me... It's Sunday today... They can cook their own lunch when they wake up."

"Oh, it's Sunday already? I really have been gone for that long?"

Xiaoyun quickly took out his phone to check, only to see the word July 17th right at the very top.

"You had been gone for two weeks now... You didn't even give us a phone call on where you went if we didn't ask Houqin." Leyan complained.

"My bad. There wasn't any phone signal in Shenzhen... It was an emergency, and I just forgot about giving you guys a phone call."

"Yeah, right... If it weren't for the newspaper, we wouldn't even know where you have been."

"Mhm."

"Xiaoyun... Did you forget what you promised me before?"

Leyan suddenly asked as she stared towards him, dead in the eyes, making Xiaoyun feel as if he were some sort of criminal.

"What promise?"

"You were supposed to give us at least a heads-up. You can't just leave us without saying a word like that."

"I thought it would be obvious... Didn't I ask Houqin to tell where I was going to Yueyue?"

"She only got your request to halt reporting on Shenzhen temporarily. Not where you went or anything."

"Close enough... Oh, come on, anyone could tell where I was going with some context clues here. Even Tianci went to Shenzhen a few days before me."

"She at least told us where she was going, unlike someone in this house."

"It was an emergency. You have to cut me some slack on this. I just didn't have time to say goodbye."

After a short silence between the two of them, Leyan finally spoke up again.

"Just this time... But I don't want it to happen ever again. Just at least give me a phone call or something when you leave like this."

"I will. I promise."

"Oh my, would you look at that? A sneaky little rat having Xiaoyun all to herself after our husband just came back from Shenzhen?"

As Yuqi's voice echoed from the stairs above, the two of them on the sofa could see her coming down with a little chuckle on her face.

"I just came back a few minutes ago. I'm only with her first because she was sleeping on the sofa earlier."

Xiaoyun immediately attempted to excuse himself, as he felt a little guilty being so close to Leyan compared to his other wives.

"The baby camera woke me up a few hours ago, and I had to feed Yongyi, Qiaolan, and your daughters, too.

And I just fell asleep on the sofa by accident. I-I have proof if you really want to pull out the footage from earlier." Leyan quickly added.

"Geez, no need to get so defensive. I was just playing... Still can't believe a mother of four still gets easily baited like this."

"Hmph!"

As Leyan crossed her arms in anger, Yuqi quickly noticed something a little off as she looked over to the clock.

"Wait, Mom, why haven't you cooked breakfast yet? I'm about to go to work in forty minutes."

"Go cook it yourself... It's Sunday, by the way." Leyan grumpily murmured as she reluctantly added the last part.

"Oh snap. I completely forgot about that... Oh well, looks like I can sleep in for today. Nice seeing you, babe."

"Nice seeing you..."

Just as Yuqi was about to head upstairs with an uninterested look towards Xiaoyun's return, Leyan's phone suddenly started sounding an alarm.

"Yuqi, you stay here. You ain't going back to bed... We don't have any more milk in the fridge."

"Fine..."

As Leyan headed off to the baby's room, Xiaoyun was a little intrigued by how nonchalant her face looked.

"You expected me to come home today?" Xiaoyun curiously asked.

"Of course I did... I was the one who sent those reports to Shenzhen. They already told me yesterday that the fog is gone."

Although there wasn't anything offensive, Xiaoyun couldn't help but feel a little disrespected.

Her tone just didn't seem appreciative of his work, nor did she seem to show any care towards him compared to how Leyan reacted earlier.

"Hey, can you at least praise me a little or put in a little energy when talking to me? I just tackled a problem that could have ended our settlements."

The moment Yuqi turned towards Xiaoyun, he immediately felt a chill traveling down his spine as her hair fell to cover most of her face.

"Sorry. I have just been working overtime in the office for the past few days. I don't really have the energy to talk."

"I-It's okay... Y-You can lean back on the sofa and relax. D-Do you want me to make you a coffee?"

"That will be great."

Before Xiaoyun could get up and make some coffee, Leyan had already come back to the living room with Lianrong in her arms.

"Not so fast. No drinking coffee until you finish feeding your daughter... Honey, can you go cook some porridge?"

Leyan requested as she gently lowered Lianrong into Yuqi's arms, not even looking back at the two of them, as she already started heading towards the baby's room.

"Okay."
