Chapter 4: Team 8

"Really?" I asked. I wasn't that surprised considering how ahead of everybody he is.

"Yes, the teachers said that I don't have anything else to learn."

"Hmm," Should I also graduate early? I already learned all the basic jutsu, and I can keep up with Itachi in grades. "Okay, I'll graduate with you!"

"What? No, you don't have to." Itachi said, a little flustered.

"It's fine, I've already finished all the curriculum and mastered the academy three," I reassured him.

Itachi just nodded and said, "Hm."

"Okay! Did you tell them already? Let's go together!"

I dragged Itachi to our teacher and I let him know of our decision. He was expecting Itachi by the looks of it, but not me. He just told me to be careful and that he'll let the Hokage know about us wanting to graduate.

A month later we passed the graduation exam with flying colors. We had to showcase the Academy Three and any other jutsu in our arsenal. We also fought each other in a taijutsu match in front of the Hokage. Because, in his words, "I'm curious about how strong my assistant's son is." Weird guy honestly.

The next day I met my Jonin instructor, who is called Aoki Fukuda, a ninjutsu weapons specialist. He can use all sorts of weapons but he didn't have any on him. When I asked him about it he said, "A good ninja should always keep their cards hidden until they need them."

And so my life as a ninja started, my teammates were also straight out of the academy and were 5 years older than me, so we became team 8. There was a boy and a girl on the team, they weren't that fond of me at first, jealous even.

The girl uses genjutsu and ninjutsu, and the boy is a Hyuga. He is extremely stuck up and stubborn, but nothing compared to some other people I've met.

The girl softened up to me after I helped her with her chakra control. After spending a month doing D-Rank missions we finally got to do our first C-Rank. It was an escort mission to the hidden hot water village.

It took us about a month to complete the mission, we fought off a couple of bandits along the way to our destination and back. I became quite close with the boy on our team after I saved his life from an attack that came from his blind spot. Apparently, it was just an accident that the attacker found the Hyuga's blindspot.

After completing the mission and reporting it in the Hokage building, sensei left us to go home but told us to come early the next day for training.

After getting home, Mom jumped at me and gave me a big hug. "Shin! I missed you!" She then started crying while waving me around with my head in her chest. I couldn't breathe so I tried to save myself but she squeezed me further. I got closer to death from her hug than the whole month I was on the mission. Seriously, it's no wonder they call her the wind calamity. She nearly shook the entire house from just hugging me.

We caught up and she made me my favourite food, cold noodles. I had a great time with my mom and she told me about all that I missed when I was away.

The next day, sensei got us to get a feel for most of the weapons he uses. Everything from the sword, short sword, fan, nunchucks, bo staff, mace, axe and many more.

I decided to go for a sword and bo staff. It's a great mix of short-range and mid-range fighting. After getting decent at using the weapons sensei said we'll learn to apply chakra to our weapons to increase the range and power of them.

The girl on our team, Aiko, decided to learn to use the fan as a weapon. Which suited her quite well as she has wind and fire affinity. The fan can also hold projectiles that can be shot out using chakra.

The boy on our team, Fuji, simply denied the teachings but Sensei eventually convinced him to try out the nunchucks as it is a close-quarters weapon that, with some refinement, can compliment the gentle fist quite well.

After about a month of training while doing some C-Rank missions along the way we become proficient enough in our weapons for sensei to teach us how to infuse chakra into them.

It took us another 5 months to learn to infuse chakra into our weapons and develop unique martial arts styles to add to our arsenal.

I learned a fluid, sharp and fast style to complement my use of the sword and bo staff.

Fuji learned to fire blades of water and chakra with his nunchucks and with his above-average chakra reserves and control. He became a force to be reckoned with. His Byakugan increased his accuracy to insane levels.

Aiko came up with a unique fighting style. She can use her fan to send dangerous wind blades or fan her fire. She can even split her fan apart into multiple knives and control them individually to create damage on a larger scale. She can also make her enemies fall into a genjutsu if they are hit with her fan.

I heard about Itachi and his team, they are doing really well. They had already completed a B-Rank mission. I wanted to go on a B-Rank mission as well. I heard B-Rank missions have a risk of running into other ninjas and/or killing or protecting high-profile people. Simple escort missions of regular people or delivering messages are classified as C-Rank which is what we have been doing. Sure we killed some bandits, but those people weren't ninjas. So I asked sensei about it.

"Excuse me sensei, but I was wondering when we'll go on a B-Rank mission?"

"Hmm, B-Rank missions are mostly for chunins."

"But my friend Itachi has already gone on a B-Rank mission," I said.

"Ahh, I heard about him. A talent compared to even the late fourth Hokage and Kakashi Hatake, both became Jonins at an early age and both are feared by many. One is called the Yellow Flash, the fastest shinobi in the world. The other is called the copy ninja and Kakashi of the Sharingan."

"Sharingan? How does he have the Sharingan?" Asked Fuji

"Apparently it was given to him by his teammate Obito Uchiha before he died."

"Oh no! That's terrible!" Exclaimed Aiko with her hands on her face.

"It's what it means to be a ninja. We are always going to be surrounded by death and destruction. Let me tell you something I heard a long time ago. We don't fight because we hate what's in front of us. We fight because we love what's behind us. Always keep that in mind." Said sensei.

"Anyways, back to your point Shin, Itachi and his team went on a joint mission with a couple of our chunins. But that's what this training has been for. So that you guys can be ready to go on tougher missions. I'll put in a good word with the Hokage and he'll recommend a suitable mission when it's available. Until then we will continue with C-Rank missions and training. The chunin exams are not that far off and you guys need to make a name for yourselves to be able to participate."

"Yes, Sensei!" We all said in Unison.

What do you guys think about where I'm taking this story? Keep in mind there is no plan, and I'm writing this as I go. The writing style is also different. It's going to be from the main character's POV mainly that is why I don't put in markers to define when he is thinking at the moment and when he is narrating the events happening.

The dialogue is sparse mainly because it's annoying to type quotation marks constantly. Also because I want to make it to the canon of the story.
