As Eldlich appeared on the field, the arena fell into brief silence.
Even the commentator paused, but quickly recovered and shouted:
"The tables have turned again! Morgan uses an unbelievable technique to resurrect Eldlich from the Graveyard… not only clearing it in the process but boosting its Attack!"
"What a shocking twist!"
"Now Dorian's the one in trouble… he has no monsters left to block Eldlich's attack. If this hits, he'll take 3500 damage!"
Dorian, fully aware of the danger, broke into a cold sweat. He glanced at his face-down card.
It was the Continuous Trap [Call of the Haunted], which could Special Summon a monster from his Graveyard—just enough to block the attack.
And Eldlich's boost wasn't permanent. It would expire at the end of the turn.
Despite that, with no monsters in Morgan's Graveyard earlier, he couldn't fuse with her monsters. Frustrating.
His Deck did have ways to force discards, but none were in hand yet.
"I activate my face-down: [Call of the Haunted]!"
"I Special Summon [Weathering Soldier] in Attack Position!"
A humanoid figure covered in cracked stone emerged.
[Weathering Soldier] Level 4│EARTH│Rock│2000 ATK
But its ATK wasn't enough to withstand Eldlich. Dorian knew that—it was his only option since [Call of the Haunted] forced the summon into Attack Position.
His other Graveyard monster, [Shell Knight], only had 0 ATK. Same result either way.
Morgan declared her attack.
"Battle! [Eldlich the Golden Lord] attacks [Weathering Soldier]!"
Eldlich's cape billowed as it vanished and reappeared before Weathering Soldier, shattering it with a gem-encrusted punch.
Dorian's Life Points dropped by 1500, down to 6500.
Morgan had landed the first blow of the match.
The audience erupted—this was the last thing they expected.
"That indie duelist is amazing! She's pressuring Dorian!"
"Her revival technique is bizarre, too. No wonder they call her the Witch."
"Though she doesn't really look like one..."
Hearing the praise directed at Morgan, Dorian's face flushed with frustration. Those compliments were supposed to be his!
He glared at Morgan, itching to turn the match around.
Yet, Morgan ignored him and calmly began wrapping up her turn.
"I set one card, then activate the effect of [Eldlixir of Scarlet Sanguine] in the Graveyard. Banish it to Set 1 'Golden Land' Spell or Trap directly from my Deck."
Morgan swiftly pulled a card from her Deck and held it up.
"I Set [Guardian of the Golden Land] on the field."
"Then, during the End Phase, I activate the effect of [Huaquero of the Golden Land] from the Graveyard!"
This was the card she had Tributed earlier to revive Eldlich.
"I banish it to Set [Eldlixir of Black Awakening] from my Deck."
With that, Morgan replenished her back row to three Set cards.
"That ends my turn."
As Morgan finished, the commentator marveled aloud:
"The Witch Morgan wins the first clash of the match! Looks like Viviana's intuition was spot-on!"
"And she's left behind three Set cards to prepare for Dorian's counterattack."
"Now the question is… how will Dorian turn this around?"
Eager to recover, Dorian immediately began his turn.
A single [Fossil Fusion] wouldn't be enough.
"My turn! Draw!"
Looking at the card he drew, Dorian nodded to himself.
This one would power up his Fossil monster.
"I activate the Spell Card [Fossil Fusion] from my hand!"
Most of the audience had predicted this, an expected follow-up Fusion Summon.
"I banish [Weathering Soldier] and [Shell Knight] from my Graveyard as Fusion Materials!"
"I Special Summon from the Extra Deck: [Fossil Warrior Skull Bone]!"
A skeletal warrior wielding a bone spear appeared.
[Fossil Warrior Skull Bone] Level 4│EARTH│Rock│2000 ATK
Despite the Fusion Summon, its ATK was still lower than Eldlich's, disappointing some in the crowd.
Regardless, Dorian grinned as if everything was going according to plan.
He revealed a Spell Card.
"I activate [Time Stream] from my hand!"
