Chapter 49
Chapter 49:
Jiang Feng clenched his fists tightly. Even he was finding it hard to endure.
“I’m not your brother,” Jiang Feng said calmly, “we’re not related by blood.”
Why couldn’t Jiang Nan understand such simple words? His response felt awkward and misplaced.
“Even though we’re not blood-related, I promised my father to look after you. That’s why I’m here,” Jiangnan replied, trying to play the role of a big brother. “Xiao Feng, give the contents of the box to the director.”
Before Jiangnan could finish, Li Rou came running over excitedly.
“Xiao Feng, our director said you can bring a reader, but the books in it must be displayed. They can’t be novels,” she announced.
“Oh,” Jiang Feng replied, not opposing the director’s decision this time. He obediently handed over his reader.
“Here you go. Check it out. I can’t believe you need to check everything, even my e-reader. What’s next? I don’t want anything from this village, and now you have to inspect if I downloaded novels? It’s ridiculous.” Jiang Feng muttered as he handed it over, complaining to the camera.
Little did he know, the director team was going to keep all these clips.
Later in editing, they even placed a cassock over him and added a scripture-chanting symbol next to his mouth. These moments eventually became classic scenes.
…
Jiang Nan, sensing that the director team was about to reveal the contents of Jiang Feng’s reader, couldn’t hide his smugness. With a slight smirk, he spoke in a lecturing tone.
“Xiao Feng, I’ve told you before, stop reading those inappropriate novels. I know you’re young and impulsive, but you need to read healthier stuff…”
“It’s none of your business what I read.” Jiang Feng snapped back.
“Xiao Feng, don’t be so harsh.” Jiangnan continued.
“You’re always hanging around like some pest, and I can’t get rid of you,” Jiang Feng said with a bitter laugh. “If I don’t put up with you, who will? Stay away from me before I lose my temper. Can I kill you now? We don’t get along, and we never will. Why are you even here? Are you trying to become an actor? This variety show is ruining whatever acting skills you have left.”
After that outburst, Jiang Nan fell silent. But he still looked at the director team, eager to see whose face would turn red with embarrassment when the contents were revealed. He wanted to see if Jiang Feng could still laugh after this.
…
When the director team finally got hold of Jiang Feng’s e-book reader, they placed it in front of the camera to check it. At first glance, they were all shocked by what they saw. The books on the reader were almost entirely in English. There were even advanced foreign books among them. The only Chinese books were simple guides downloaded from the internet, mostly about game strategies.
“How to be a Qualified Jungler.”
“How to be a Qualified Mid Laner.”
“How to be a Qualified ADC.”
Everyone was dumbfounded. Li Rou instinctively turned to Jiang Feng.
“Xiao Feng, can you actually understand these books in English?”
“Oh, these…” Jiang Feng frowned, frustration evident on his face. “Yeah, I guess.”
“It’s okay, Xiao Feng. Don’t listen to what Jiang Nan said. It’s perfectly normal to read extracurricular books at your age,” Li Rou comforted him. “Just tell us, are these the kinds of books you usually read?”
“Yeah.” Jiang Feng absentmindedly kicked a stone near his foot. “These are the books my mom wanted me to read. Unfortunately, I could only find the English versions, so I had no choice but to read them.”
Li Rou was speechless. The director team was just as stunned. They had imagined many possible explanations, but none of them were this.
“I’m not good at English, but I can’t disappoint my mom,” Jiang Feng muttered, scratching his head in frustration. There was a hint of annoyance in his voice. “I’ve been studying English for years, but I haven’t learned much. My mom probably thinks I’m too slow. Right now, I can only understand the simpler stuff.”
