Chapter 141: Accident at Home
Shen Mochen opened his eyes, his back sore. He did not go home last night, instead staying beside Yin Caiyu's bed.
Standing up and massaging his back, Shen Mochen looked at Yin Caiyu's face and bent down to whisper in her ear, "I'm going back to prepare some materials; I'll come to see you again in the afternoon."
After saying that, he pushed open the door of the ward. At this moment, everyone had dispersed, leaving only Cai Yuncui asleep on a chair by the door.
Shen Mochen looked down at her indifferently. She was still dressed in her patient's gown, but it was stretched tight over her chest, revealing the creamy whiteness beneath.
It seemed she had spent the whole night guarding the door. Shen Mochen nudged her lightly.
"Umm..."
Cai Yuncui suddenly lifted her head, and upon seeing Shen Mochen, she instantly woke up, "Little Mochen, you're awake. Shall we go eat?"
"No need, you go home," Shen Mochen said.
"No, no, I can't leave. Maybe I could go buy you some food—what would you like to eat?" Cai Yuncui vigorously shook her head, rubbing her eyes.
Shen Mochen glanced coldly at Cai Yuncui, "I'm doing well now. I won't think about suicide anymore, so there's no need for you to follow me. Just let me be alone for a while."
"Umm... then I won't appear before you, is that okay?" Cai Yuncui said with a pitiable look, hanging her head low.
Shen Mochen's eyes showed a hint of annoyance as he turned to leave, "I'm going home."
Yin Caiyu was in a high-class ward with nurses to take care of her. Shen Mochen didn't need to be there, and he knew it. He needed to go back and prepare; in a few days, he'd report to Buque.
Last night, after putting forward his conditions to Du Ziqi, she immediately called her superiors to report the matter. Even though it was late at night, after two or three transfers, the call finally reached a senior Buque executive.
And surprisingly, it went smoothly. Once the party heard about Shen Mochen's situation, they instantly agreed to his demands. They were willing to give Shen Mochen five times the normal amount of Amplifier that a regular Buque member would get and also promised that his salary from Buque would be paid in full without error.
The only condition was that Shen Mochen had to cooperate with the official propaganda.
The other party had a clear view—from the slums emerged an abandoned child who depended on his sister for survival, both of them orphans. His sister was killed by a monster, and his sister, who had awakened superpowers, became a guardian for Buque. Then, on his eighteenth birthday, the devastating news of his sister's death in battle reached him… But misfortune comes with a silver lining, perhaps as compensation from heaven, he miraculously awakened his own superpowers. So, with respect for his sister, anger towards the monsters, and love for his countrymen, he decisively chose to follow in his sister's footsteps, to mend the breach in the skies!
What a legendary, tragic, and inspiring story it was!
In the future, they might even make a documentary about him. Now, fewer and fewer male Superpower Users were voluntarily joining Buque, and the forces involved behind the scenes were too substantial. Even Buque couldn't force men to enlist directly.
A tragic hero like Shen Mochen was the perfect type for propaganda. Not only could he encourage other male Superpower Users to join Buque voluntarily, but also further improve the image of male Buque members among the civilians, giving them a higher sense of honor.
Besides, out of respect for Yin Caiyu's illustrious military achievements, giving her family some preferential treatment was not unacceptable.
Shen Mochen was well aware of his own value in propaganda; though he disliked these affairs, if it meant he could obtain Amplifiers, cooperating was not an issue. Spouting nonsense with a straight face was not difficult for him.
Shen Mochen turned to go home, followed by a staggering Cai Yuncui. Sleeping in a chair certainly didn't lend itself to good rest, and though she was extremely drowsy, she forced herself to stay awake.
She worried more about Shen Mochen than herself. Perhaps his emotions were relatively stable now, not as agitated as at the beginning, but surely his heart was still heavy with sorrow. She thought, when a person is grieving, it's best to have someone by their side.
Shen Mochen hailed a taxi, and the two took the ride home together. However, the bumps along the road made Cai Yuncui's drowsiness surge back up. She rubbed her eyes vigorously but remained sleepy. Find more to read at My Virtual Library Empire
She had stood watch outside the entire night, full of fear and trepidation; she was truly exhausted at this moment.
"Cai Yuncui, I'm going to sleep for a bit, okay... Call me when we arrive," she said softly.
"Mhm."
Shen Mochen nodded indifferently. He was currently irritated by everything, even Cai Yuncui.
Of course, the main reason was that it was in his nature to be aloof and cold. It was just that he used to disguise himself, wanting to fit in with society, wanting to reassure Yin Caiyu, but he couldn't be bothered with it anymore, or perhaps there was no longer any need to pretend.
Relieved by Shen Mochen's affirmative response, Cai Yuncui felt a release of tension. She wanted to lean on Shen Mochen but, after glancing at him and fearing he would be upset, she curled up slightly and carefully dozed off against the car window.
"Young man, what's going on? What's the reason for your girlfriend's hospitalization?"
The taxi driver, noticing Cai Yuncui's hospital garments from the rearview mirror, couldn't help but inquire.
Shen Mochen did not even lift his eyelids and ignored the question. He couldn't be bothered to explain his relationship with Cai Yuncui, nor the reason for her hospital attire.
The driver, however, was particularly enthusiastic, "What's up, you young couple had a fight? The car ride's bumpy, isn't it? How can she sleep well!"
Shen Mochen still didn't respond, just closed his eyes to rest and acted as if he hadn't heard.
The driver frowned slightly, sighed, and, knowing when to stop, said nothing further. But at a sharp turn in the road, he aggressively turned the steering wheel, causing Cai Yuncui, who was in a deep sleep, to gently topple onto Shen Mochen's shoulder, and then slowly slide into his arms.
After doing all this, the driver finally displayed a smile of satisfaction.
No, why are all the drivers so kind-hearted? Are they part of some Good Samaritan organization?
Shen Mochen's mouth twitched slightly, but looking at the peaceful sleeping face in his arms, he ultimately didn't say anything and continued to rest with his eyes closed. His mood seemed to improve slightly with the faint coconut fragrance and the warmth of Cai Yuncui's body in his arms.
"Ouch..."
Not long after, Shen Mochen's collarbone was hit by something small.
He suddenly opened his eyes, only to find it was Cai Yuncui's little button. Her chest had been tight already, and with the unintentional bending in her sleep, the already ill-fitting hospital gown had now completely burst open, revealing large expanses of her skin.
"So there are pasties. I was wondering why I didn't see any... dots... "
Shen Mochen murmured in his mind, frowned with annoyance, and took off his jacket to cover Cai Yuncui. But then he felt a part of his body pressing against Cai Yuncui's face, so he tugged her head toward his knees.
Suddenly, Cai Yuncui opened her eyes.
"What's going on? This is a normal reaction for a guy. It's not like I told you to sleep here, and your clothes ripped on their own—it has nothing to do with me..."
Shen Mochen was taken aback and quickly explained, to prevent her from finding any excuse to blame him.
However, Cai Yuncui didn't seem to realize what Shen Mochen was saying. She was groggy and fished out her vibrating phone from her pocket.
"Hmm... it's me... what, my grandmother is not going to make it?"
Cai Yuncui suddenly sat up, instantly wide awake.
