Chapter 122: The Devouring Ancestral Symbol (Thanks for the Support)
In the dark Symbol Puppet Lair, Lin Langtian rapidly descended, wind howling past his ears as countless cave openings whizzed by. As he continued downward, he gained an even better sense of the lair's terrifying scale. The vast area beneath his feet was only a small fraction of the entire Symbol Puppet Lair. It seemed the puppets stored here grew stronger the deeper he went. However, Lin Langtian was somewhat disappointed not to encounter any Spirit Puppets or, even more advanced Heavenly Puppets, let alone the legendary Celestial Puppets.
Abandoning his examination of the lair, Lin Langtian focused entirely on reaching his destination.
"Hm?"
As he continued to descend, he suddenly noticed a powerful wave of frigid air seeping up from below, forming dense clouds of cold mist that floated through the lair.
"What an intense chill!"
The second Lin Langtian's spiritual power made contact with the strange, icy energy, a sharp cold seeped into his body. But with his current strength, he simply flexed his body, using his powerful physique to drive the cold away.
The Golden Crow perched on his shoulder perked up, letting out an excited chirp, drawn to the chill in the air. The Seven-Fiend Black Golden Crow naturally craved this kind of dark, chilling energy.
"Ah, this is Nine Nether Cold Energy," Aunt Ling's calm voice sounded in Lin Langtian's mind. "This place must be connected to the earth's depths. If this cold invades the body, it can freeze even one's spiritual energy, but it shouldn't pose any threat to you now. In fact, your Golden Crow might benefit from it."
"Nine Nether Cold Energy?" Lin Langtian asked, curious. Hearing the name made him think of the mythical Nine Nether Cold Crow. Shaking off the thought, he muttered, "If that's the case, why not let the Golden Crow absorb it here?"
Since the Devouring Ancestral Symbol was within the lair, it wasn't going anywhere. Letting the Golden Crow gain strength first wouldn't hurt.
The Golden Crow circled happily overhead, then opened its beak wide, inhaling the frigid currents in a continuous stream. As the concentrated cold filled the air, even Lin Langtian instinctively took a few steps back, watching with a serious expression.
Although the Golden Crow's absorption speed didn't yet match that of a mature Seven-Fiend Black Golden Crow, it was far greater than most creatures of its level. With each gulp, the dense mist rapidly thinned.
"Not bad for a royal beast—a true glutton!" Lin Langtian commented, shaking his head in amusement as the frigid mist grew even thinner. The Nine Nether Cold Energy, which could be deadly for anyone below the Creation Stage, had turned into a power-booster for the Golden Crow.
"This is nothing. The Golden Crow's ancestor, the Nine-Fiend Black Golden Crow, was as powerful as the Nine Nether Cold Crow itself. At its peak, it could freeze an entire realm with a single breath!" Aunt Ling said.
Lin Langtian smiled, imagining the vast power required to freeze an entire realm, possibly several times the size of the Great Flame Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the Golden Crow finished absorbing the cold and landed on Lin Langtian's shoulder, its weight making his shoulder sag a little. Looking at the bird, Lin Langtian couldn't help but chuckle; it had puffed up round like a ball. Though it looked a bit comical now, he could sense its increased power. Once it fully digested this energy, the Golden Crow might rival even Creation Stage experts.
After stroking the bird's head, Lin Langtian resumed his descent through the thinning cold mist. Before long, a massive black altar emerged below him.
Finally seeing a structure appear, Lin Langtian felt a surge of excitement as he slowly landed on the altar. The entire area was eerily silent, and his gaze soon settled on a dark orb at the altar's center.
The black altar, cold and metallic-looking, had several ancient pillars surrounding it, giving it an ominous look. But Lin Langtian paid no attention to these; his gaze was locked on the orb, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
The orb was about ten feet wide and surrounded by swirling black light. Through the glow, he could see a large, ancient symbol the size of a human head at its core. This symbol had an air of ancient power, one that dwarfed even the distant feeling evoked by the ancient sect that had built this lair.
The black symbol seemed to be in a dormant state, releasing faint pulses of energy that caused the surrounding space to darken with a threatening aura, as if it could devour anything in its path.
"The Devouring Ancestral Symbol!"
Overjoyed, Lin Langtian could barely contain his excitement. But just as he spoke, he heard several footsteps approaching from outside the altar, and his smile faded.
Moments later, over a dozen figures appeared on the vast black altar. Leading them was a middle-aged man clad in dark red robes, his hair black as ink and almost alive, swirling around his head like small black holes. He radiated an intimidating aura.
Lin Langtian's smile twisted as he recognized the man.
It was Teng Sha, the current master of the Shadow Puppet Sect.
Teng Sha's eyes locked on Lin Langtian's form, and he was clearly startled by the sight of the young figure in blue robes standing near the altar.
"Lin Langtian?! How is it you?"
