Work Prophet

Chapter 9: The Tickets

"That's how Kaden is, she can be quite impatient at times," Taylor said.

"But that's also her strength. She has strong determination, and once she sets her mind on something, she'll see it through."

After saying this, Taylor glanced at Li Yu's pants leg, "Oh, it seems like something splattered on it. I'll have someone fetch you a new pair."

"No need." Li Yu took out the [Rebirth Bell] and approached the body, softly calling Kaden's name.

Soon, the [Rebirth Bell] reacted.

Once Li Yu had put away the small bell, Taylor spoke again, "Alright, now we should discuss your compensation."

"Compensation?"

"Of course, being a Savior is still a job, and like any job, it comes with compensation. We can't expect you to work for free. But before that, give me a hand here."

Taylor grabbed one of Kaden's arms, while Li Yu took the other.

Together, they dragged the body to the corner of the wall, leaving a jagged line of blood on the ground.

"Let's leave it here for now. Someone will come and take care of it later."

"I thought it might disappear on its own after a while."

"I told you, this virtual world is like a copy of the real world, another parallel space-time. It's also bound by various rules, and it's not like a game where you can do whatever you want. If you die here, you'll die in reality as well."

Taylor returned to the oak table and pointed at the empty chair, where Kaden had been sitting just five minutes ago.

"Have a seat."

Upon hearing this, Li Yu sat down.

"I'm glad you're back," Taylor's joy was genuine.

"Although we have backup plans, you are always our first choice. You've been a missionary in another dimension for so long, you should understand the power of faith too. Especially in the face of disaster, we all need a little faith."

"I'm not that person."

"I know, Neo also told Morpheus he wasn't the one before becoming the Savior. But who knows what the future holds?"

Taylor paused, "Alright, enough chit-chat, let's get down to business. Since your job duties have changed, your compensation should too."

"Starting today, your salary will be quintupled, and the $10 billion reimbursement limit promised to you by the board will take effect immediately. You can purchase almost anything available in human society right now."

"Oh, and you'll be promoted to P7 by the end of this month, which is a rapid promotion, but as a Savior, P7 is still a bit low. Let's bump it straight to P9, making your authority in the company right below the board."

"In addition, you will also receive seven tickets."

"What tickets?"

"Tickets to the new world," Taylor said. "Compared to Earth's vast population, only a limited number of people will be able to make it to the new world. The probability for a draw is only..."

"0.33%."

"No, we need to ensure that the best among us can reach this new dimension, so the number of spots left for the general public lottery is only about six million, which is a 0.1% chance."

"Trying to gain the chance to survive purely by luck is not easy. It's cruel, but it's all for the continuation of our species. Individual sacrifices are inevitable."

"However, as a Savior, you will have some privileges. You can designate seven people: they can be your relatives, loved ones, friends, or even strangers you happen to like, though I don't recommend that."

"In any case, these seven lucky ones don't have to draw lots; they'll get the precious chance to survive."

"Also, from today on, you can't use the [Rebirth Bell] however you please. You can only select people from the list we give you. Don't worry; they're all specialists in their fields and will assist you alongside Kaden. "

"Professionalism and efficiency will be the focus of your future work. If you encounter any difficulties, you can communicate directly with me or the other four board members."

"The Equipment Department can also conduct relevant R&D according to your needs. However, don't make it too complicated; their main work focus is still on the descent plan. Our research has broadly succeeded, but there are still many details to refine."

"A consciousness descent project of this scale is no easy feat, comparable to landing on the moon during the Cold War."

Taylor finished in one breath, "Do you have any other questions?"

"Not for now."

"Good, then get to work."

Li Yu walked to the door, ready to leave, when Taylor added, "I almost forgot, from now on, every Sunday morning, you must come to my office to report on your work. The board wants to stay informed of your progress."

"No problem."

"Good." Taylor looked at Li Yu and said softly, "I know you might feel uncomfortable inside because you have to personally destroy everything built in the other dimension, bit by bit.

"But a great person is great because of the difficult choices they make that ordinary people cannot.

"Put on this Thorny Crown, and save us, Lamb."

Li Yu said nothing more, pushing the door open and leaving Taylor's office.

The first thing seen was Hephaestus making coffee in the lounge. Who knows how many cups of coffee this was for him today.

Upon seeing Li Yu, the half-blooded handsome guy's eyes lit up, and he came over, "Did you see her?"

"Who are you talking about, Kaden? Do you know her? What's your relationship?"

"Well…" Hephaestus stammered, "Just ordinary colleagues, but that woman is hard to deal with. She's the hardest woman I've ever met. She always finds a way to make you furious."

"Did you sleep with her?" Li Yu looked at the expression on Hephaestus' face and immediately understood, "She slept with you."

The half-blooded handsome guy shrugged, "I thought we were in love. We had a little to drink that night, said a bunch of sweet nothings, the atmosphere was great, and then we did… what normal people would do."

"But the next morning, she just put on her pants as if nothing had happened. When I called her afterward, she wouldn't pick up. Oh, and she didn't even leave me her number. I had to find a way to ask around for it."

Hephaestus grumbled, "That woman is a devil, without a shred of human emotion."

Li Yu patted his shoulder, "Don't worry, she won't be troubling you anymore."

"Why?"

"She's dead."

"Ah, what?" Hephaestus' eyes widened, "Wasn't she just in Taylor's office?"

Li Yu shook the [Rebirth Bell] in his hand.

"Damn!" The half-blooded handsome guy's mouth opened wide, "That crazy woman!"
