Chapter 9: A Bountiful Harvest
Abyss World, Eastern Swamp Sea.
"That's all there is."
In the laboratory, Beelzebub opened his treasure trove with a pained expression, eyes full of reluctance.
As an old Abyss Dominator, Beelzebub's collection can't be described with mere words like "abundant."
In his treasure trove, many treasures that are only sparsely documented in Wizards' Magic Books are casually tossed in the corners.
As for those meticulously preserved by Beelzebub, each item is a treasure worth a Dominator's attention.
"This is... Pure Ether Liquid Crystal? You actually have so much."
"Eternal Frozen Ice Core, isn't this thing only found in the Water Element Territory?"
"Void Meteor, you even have this thing! Something this big might require the Alchemy Crown to act."
...
Walking through Beelzebub's treasure trove, every exclamation from Richard deepened the pain on Beelzebub's face.
If Richard didn't recognize the items, he might have suffered a little less loss.
But Richard was like an encyclopedia, recognizing everything he saw. Some items even required Beelzebub to research and compile data, only for Richard to instantly recognize them.
The further they walked, the more twisted his expression became.
Of course, Beelzebub didn't know that this wasn't due to the Wizard Civilization's broad knowledge, but because Richard had received the Furnace Man's legacy.
Even if Beelzebub's collection was vast, Richard could identify about seventy to eighty percent, only failing to recognize some items from the Endless Dimension and other World Communities.
Suddenly, Richard's voice became tremendously excited.
"Boundary Annihilation Stone! You keep this in the lab, aren't you afraid it'll pierce through?"
In front of Richard, a Boundary Annihilation Stone the size of a fist floated in the air, its exterior encased in a shell similar to amber.
This shell seemed simple, but within it, Richard saw countless Abyssal Spells and the flowing gravity rules within — the shell was, in fact, a seal.
Faced with Richard's exclamation, Beelzebub, already numb, said despondently, "If it pierces, it pierces; better than it being snatched away."
Richard gave Beelzebub a glance and immediately infiltrated the seal with his spiritual power to gauge the size of this Boundary Annihilation Stone.
That glance revealed that the Boundary Annihilation Stone was as large as a room.
If weighed, its mass rivaled that of a small continent.
"Oh my, this thing would definitely weigh enough if made into a hammer."
Richard exclaimed in awe and took away his first treasure of the day.
After further exploration, Richard quickly toured the entirety of Beelzebub's treasure trove.
Upon returning to the entrance of the trove, Beelzebub looked petrified, walking like a puppet on strings.
There was no helping it; having one's trove inspected by an expert and taken freely was unbearable for any Dominator.
However, while Beelzebub was distressed, Richard was delighted.
As an Alchemy Wizard, every item in this trove tugged at his heartstrings.
With the items from this trove, even if he didn't know the faintest bit of Alchemy, he could create Truth Level Magic Equipment.
"Beelzebub, your trove is indeed splendid," Richard remarked with a cheerful grin.
"Indeed, truly splendid," Beelzebub mumbled with a mournful expression.
Seeing Richard's expression, he knew that his years of collecting were all for naught.
"Ahem, your items are very impressive," Richard stated with a pretentious facade, "I've just become a Dominator, and I happen to lack some Magic Equipment. Your generous donation of these materials is something for which I am immensely grateful."
"Haha, I am indeed generous," Beelzebub's voice nearly broke into tears.
His greatest desire now was to travel through time and slap himself hard for attempting a Bloodline theft at that moment.
For a moment of greed, his immeasurable collection over many years was all lost.
"Ahem, I haven't finished speaking yet," Richard coughed. "Although your virtue is noble, and you're generous, as a Wizard, I always uphold the principle of fair trade.
Therefore, I've decided to exchange for your items with the most treasured asset of Wizards — knowledge."
Knowledge?
Beelzebub looked at Richard, and the vacant eyes instantly glinted with sharpness. Seeing this glint, Richard immediately realized he was feigning.
These items, though precious, weren't enough to truly affect Beelzebub to such an extent.
After all, in the Abyss, anything useful to Beelzebub would have long been utilized for self-enhancement.
Richard silently cursed the old fox and took out a Crystal Ball from his pocket, leaving a piece of biological technology from the Furnace Man inside.
Although Richard could have taken all the treasures without spending a cent, it was a matter of principle.
He still needed Beelzebub to work for him; you can't make a horse run without feeding it.
The technology from the Previous Civilization might be invaluable to others, but to Richard, it was just a minuscule part of the legacy.
Exchanging such technology for these rare materials was most fitting.
Besides, he intended to hand these things over to the Wizard Alliance someday. Even if he didn't give them now, Beelzebub would still obtain this knowledge from the Wizard Alliance later.
The Civilization Devourer had already begun devouring civilizations; Richard couldn't allow the Alliance to slowly develop the technology by themselves, at least not letting them reinvent the wheel — just like the Wizard Civilization before the war, where countless Wizards had to rediscover things that other Wizards had discovered thousands or tens of thousands of years ago due to knowledge secrecy.
Climbing on the shoulders of predecessors is always faster than exploring alone.
Beelzebub took the Crystal Ball and used his spiritual power to absorb the information within.
In the next moment, Beelzebub's gaze suddenly sharpened.
It was for no other reason than that the technology Richard gave him was something he had not discovered before.
Beelzebub looked at Richard, once again putting on that pitiful look on his face.
Richard remained silent, simply holding up three fingers.
Although technology wasn't valuable to Richard, the plundering of the treasury this time was Beelzebub's own doing.
The attitude he expressed was already more than generous. If he gave more, he might be taken advantage of as a good-natured person.
Beelzebub looked at those three fingers, contemplating whether to haggle or not. But after some thought, he ultimately accepted the price.
Simply put, he was afraid that if he haggled, he wouldn't even get the knowledge worth that number.
Abyss demons are greedy, but overly greedy abyss demons don't live long.
Getting three technologies was already quite good.
After thinking it over, a fawning smile immediately appeared on Beelzebub's face.
"Hahaha, Master Richard, you truly are benevolent. Three it is. Would you like me to pack up everything in the warehouse and deliver it to you?"
Seeing this, Richard also smiled and patted Beelzebub on the shoulder.
"No rush, I still need to stay in the Abyss for a few days. Let's discuss the trade first.
I have a lot of technology, but among them, there are surely many you already know. Beelzebub, with you being so generous, I certainly can't deceive you with what you already know, wouldn't you agree?"
"Haha, indeed, indeed."
Upon hearing this, Beelzebub immediately understood what Richard was up to.
Richard not only wanted his treasure trove but also had his eyes on his knowledge.
"This kid is cunning. No wonder he seemed so kindly-hearted; he was waiting for me right here," Beelzebub cursed in his heart.
However, after the shock of losing the treasury, Beelzebub's mindset had somewhat become 'might as well go for broke.'
In any case, his losses were already substantial, so losing a bit more wasn't a big deal.
"In that case, shall we move to the laboratory?" Richard asked.
Beelzebub laughed and quickly led the way.
"Let's move, let's move."
...
In the laboratory, Richard watched Beelzebub's large mouth open on his abdomen, from which he took out a ball of flesh.
Handing that ball of flesh to Richard, a look of heartache appeared on Beelzebub's face.
This time it was genuine heartache.
Even though Beelzebub wasn't a wizard, he placed considerable importance on the knowledge he had researched.
But heartache or not, in the face of survival, all external things must take a back seat.
"This is the result of my research over the years; take a look," he said.
Richard took the flesh ball, and the nerves in his hand quickly connected with the nerves in the ball.
In an instant, Richard felt as if he had gained an additional brain.
In this brain, countless research data and materials were recorded.
This information flowed through Richard's brain, traversing his soul and almost making him lose himself.
At this moment, Richard finally understood what the depth of research mentioned by the King of Titans, comparable to the Great Elder of Biology, truly was.
If it weren't for the heritage of the Furnace Man, Richard's own knowledge would be like a firefly compared to the Great Sun amidst this information.
Even though he now possessed the Furnace Man heritage, he still saw quite a bit of new material in this information.
"Astonishing, astonishing indeed."
Returning from the records, Richard no longer treated Beelzebub as lightly as before.
Even though Beelzebub was now technically his contract slave, as the creator of this knowledge, Richard was willing to give him respect.
This was respect for knowledge.
He took a Crystal Ball out from his pocket, leaving two Furnace Man biological technologies in it, and solemnly handed it to Beelzebub.
Beelzebub took it and immediately received the information within.
In the next moment, he too showed the same dazed expression as Richard had earlier.
"...Amazing, I never imagined it could be like this."
Since he promised to give Beelzebub knowledge that he didn't possess, Richard naturally wouldn't fill it with garbage.
The technology he provided was quite advanced.
After the transaction, both parties were very satisfied.
There's no need to mention Richard, who acquired rare materials from a treasure trove and also gained Beelzebub's knowledge.
Although Beelzebub lost many treasures this time and handed over his own knowledge accumulation, the items in the treasury were almost useless to him, and knowledge isn't lost just because it's shared.
Meanwhile, Richard's technology could practically enhance his strength.
What's more interesting is that Beelzebub still had to work for Richard, so his enhanced strength was also beneficial to Richard.
At the end of this transaction, Beelzebub didn't lose; Richard won twice.
It was truly a "win-win" situation.
After taking what he wanted from the treasure trove, Richard didn't linger much longer in Beelzebub's laboratory.
Beelzebub needed to research the Titan's Nest and the technology Richard gave him, while Richard needed to quickly turn these treasures into Magic Equipment.
A Truth Wizard like Richard having only a Sixth Level Titan's Titan's Hammer as equipment is laughable.
