Wizard: I Can Refine Everything

Chapter 124: The Wizard After the Civil Strife

The military reform, which involves legion matters, is certainly not something that can be easily accomplished just by lip service.

The entangled interests and demands of various parties involved cannot be untangled by an ordinary person.

But fortunately, Richard doesn't need to handle these matters. He just needs to make decisions, and the rest can be entrusted to the Great Wizard.

On the basis of the military reform, Richard presented his and the King of Titans' thoughts on the next stage of the war at the meeting.

The tactic of defensive warfare may sound laissez-faire at first, but after Richard's explanation, none of the dominators objected—except for Samuel.

The halt in attacks made the Abyss Dominator, who was fervent about war, quite displeased. In his view, the Wizard Alliance should strike directly at the heart with a grand war to end the Civilization Devourer.

Of course, his opinion was naturally ignored by many dominators.

Everyone has been in the alliance for a while, and they all know what kind of person Samuel is.

"The defensive warfare is merely a temporary measure; its essence is to delay Its growth speed and buy us time," Richard continued, "The research on Critical Evolution Liquid must be expedited.

The leaders of each civilization should also be selected quickly, but this is internal affairs, and the alliance will not interfere.

If possible, before the final battle, it's best if we can have multiple leader-level dominators."

"There have been some results in the research of Critical Evolution Liquid," Beelzebub spoke up, "The Medicine King and I have used the Power of Mystery to intervene, and we've already made a semi-finished product.

If this thing succeeds, it's best for everyone here to prepare a body for themselves."

As he spoke, Beelzebub grinned.

"Breaking through the physique limit will no longer be a problem for us."

...

"Defensive warfare? The attacks have finally stopped?"

Looking at the notice from the Military Department, Gao Wen's expression was almost numb.

No wonder, as too many surprising things have happened during this time.

First, there was the massive invasion by the Civilization Devourer, followed by the support of dominators from alien civilizations, then the attacks stopped, leading to a civil war, which also subsided in less than a year.

All of this happened rather suddenly.

It's as if this period in time is known in history books as the turning point, where all the major events concentrate and occur during this time.

"Good news, boss!" Asu cheered upon hearing Richard's voice, "Without attacks, we can live a bit longer."

Bang!

Gao Wen casually threw the wrench in his hand, hitting Asu's head with a large bump.

"You really can't tell anything good from that mouth," Gao Wen said angrily, "What do you mean we can live a bit longer? Haven't we all survived just fine after participating in wars for so many years?"

Asu rubbed his head and replied with a silly grin, "Haha, boss, you have to face reality. That's the situation we're in right now."

Seeing Asu's stubborn ways, Gao Wen was speechless and chose to ignore this foolish Wild Beastman.

Buzz!

A communication request appeared in Gao Wen's view.

"Donna?"

Gao Wen looked at the communication request with some confusion.

His communication magic equipment only supported internal communication, so how could a rear alchemy factory director like Donna contact him?

Did Donna get involved in the turmoil?

It shouldn't be.

According to his information, Donna did not participate in this turmoil, and even if it came to a reckoning, it wouldn't fall on her.

With doubt, he connected the communication, and Donna's charming face appeared in front of him.

"Hey, Gao Wen, have you missed me during this time?"

Seeing Donna as usual, Gao Wen felt a little more at ease.

"Miss..." Gao Wen drew out the word long, "On the battlefield, I even imagined how much you would cry at my funeral."

"You!" Donna laughed, shaking her head, and then continued, "This time I came following the logistics unit to collect frontline demands. I think as an old soldier like you, you should have a lot of needs to mention.

So, give me your room number."

"Should I send Asu away?"

"It's best to send him away. My secretary is very curious about brave warriors like him who have been active on the front lines and has wanted to communicate with him."

"A secretary? A big deal." Gao Wen exaggeratedly said.

Donna rolled her eyes at Gao Wen: "How many years has Asu been with you? If having a secretary makes one a big deal, you would have been one hundreds of years ago."

"Alright then, room 9874, knock three times hard and two times light."

"Why, did you find a mistress?" Donna said with a teasing smile, "Even coming in needs a code."

Gao Wen waved his hand, sighed, and said, "Sigh, it's still about the civil war. Not long ago, a series of assassination cases broke out within the base, taking out quite a few wizards.

Who knows if these people have quieted down now."

...

"How are things at the rear?"

Gao Wen sat on the bed, silently lighting a rationed cigarette. Next to him, Donna tidied her hair, with a hint of post-storm blush still on her face.

"How else can it be? The recent turmoil cleared out quite a few people, and many factory directors were cleaned out." Donna said softly, "After fighting for half a lifetime on the front lines, I finally got transferred to the rear, only to be transferred back again.

"Fate is unpredictable."

"That's what they brought upon themselves," Gao Wen said bluntly, "Unable to curb their greed, they deserve to be sent to the Atonement Army."

Donna did not express an opinion on this matter; the warmth in a wizard's bones is limited and is only extended to those close to them.

"However, I've also had a stroke of luck," Donna continued, "Before the civil war began, I secretly joined the Miracle School, and due to this connection, the school's higher-ups intend to make me a regional supervisor."

Upon hearing this, a trace of surprise flashed across Gao Wen's face.

"You joined the Miracle School?"

"Yes."

"...You're smarter than me."

"That's right; a certain fool, despite having enough military merits to be transferred back as a factory director, still remains on the frontline courting death."

Gao Wen was left speechless.

The fool Donna mentioned was naturally him. When Donna was transferred back to the rear, she had mentioned this to Gao Wen, but he had refused.

Hundreds of years of war had made him fearful of life beyond the battlefield.

Moreover, what would he do when he returned to the rear?

He had nothing in the rear; years of war had long since tangled up a wizard's social ties.

Now wizards had no families, no mentors, although they had classmates and comrades, comrades for someone like Gao Wen, an old wizard, had mostly died.

He was a wizard without roots.

The battlefield was where he was meant to live.

Seeing Gao Wen remain silent, Donna could only sigh helplessly.

"Ah, you fellow."

As she spoke, Donna suddenly took out a bag from the bedside and pulled out a photograph.

"This is for you."

Gao Wen accepted it, curious to see the contents of the photograph.

The photograph was a picture of Donna and a girl. Looking at the child's antlers and her somewhat similar appearance to Donna, a thought instantly sprung up in Gao Wen's mind.

This was Donna's daughter.

"Who... Who is she?"

Gao Wen's voice carried a touch of uncertainty.

"Coward," Donna said softly, "According to our custom, her name is Hill Gao Wen Moska. Your daughter."

"...This joke isn't very funny," Gao Wen's voice was somewhat flustered, "Wizards are cultivated in training chambers.."

"My military merits are sufficient, Gao Wen, and yours are sufficient too."

Donna's serious tone made Gao Wen somewhat unsure of what to say.

Although he was already hundreds of years old, his heart was still that of the boy who once walked out of the Wizard Academy.

The battlefield had made him reliable, but that was in regard to the battlefield.

In the battle of life, he was still like a new recruit.

"Gao Wen, do your best to keep living." Donna rose from the bed and entered her Alchemy Power Armor, "Although having a father who sacrifices himself on the battlefield sounds respectable, I'd prefer her to have a living father by her side."

"Why... Why are you doing this?" Gao Wen asked, somewhat at a loss.

And Donna's response to him was just a mischievous smile.

"It's simple, I'm a selfish person. A kite needs a line to be reeled back and before someone else attaches the line to the kite, I need to act first."

...

"It seems that's indeed what He did."

In the Star Realm, Richard and Wild Wind looked at the vast fleet jumping from the Void, and their hearts instantly calmed down.

The unknown is more terrifying than the Civilization Devourer.

"Is it okay for you to deal with Him?" Richard asked Wild Wind.

"No problem," Wild Wind replied confidently, "I haven't engaged with these guys much, so He is limited in His information about me, dealing with this fleet won't be a problem."

"Alright, I'll leave this to you," Richard solemnly nodded.

"What are you going to do?" Wild Wind suddenly asked, "With your current strength, we could proceed significantly further, which would slow time down."

"That time is too short, and it would expose my strength—it's not worth it," Richard shook his head slightly, "I'm planning to visit the last civilization. Back then, besides the Spirit Desert Civilization, several Dominators opposed the Civilization Devourer alongside the Curse Crown.

Pulling the remaining civilizations in, we can consider a counterattack."

Years ago, several Dominators opposed the Civilization Devourer with the Curse Crown, besides the Sand Spirit Ancestors of the Spirit Desert Civilization and the Wild Ghost Prophet of the Curse Demon Empire, there were three others seemingly from the same Race.

If nothing unexpected happens, the unknown civilization next to the gods civilization is the civilization those three Dominators came from.

"Sending you as an emissary is truly underutilizing you." Wild Wind murmured.

Richard shook his head gently: "You're wrong, my envoy role is for the success rate. That civilization has the Prophet Dominator's instruction, but still hasn't contacted us.

This indicates that this civilization has internal issues.

My envoy could provide it with some confidence. At the very least, if I encounter obstruction from the Civilization Devourer on the way, I can escape smoothly."
