Who Stole My Eggs?

Chapter 40

Second Uncle?!

Xie Zuo was dumbfounded. “Wait a minute, who are you calling second uncle?”

The child became nervous and pointed at Huo Yao. “He’s my second uncle.”

Xie Zuo had a puzzled expression. Huo Yao’s child from his wife was calling him second uncle. Was the relationship between mortals really this complicated?

Huo Yao turned to Young Madam Huo. “Sister-in-law, please take the child and go back first. I’ll handle this.”

Young Madam Huo saluted Xie Zuo again with the child and swiftly departed.

Observing Xie Zuo’s bewildered face, combined with his recent resistance and disdainful attitude, Huo Yao became convinced. “Have you never received a letter from me before?”

“A letter?” Xie Zuo felt like his brain was short-circuiting. “What letter?”

“No wonder…” Huo Yao looked down and met Xie Zuo’s gaze. “So, you always thought I married Imperial Teacher Wen’s granddaughter and had a child with her?”

“Could it be… it wasn’t true?”

“I’ve never been engaged, nor have I been with anyone else.” Huo Yao gently touched Xie Zuo’s cheek, while his other hand firmly held Xie Zuo’s hand against his chest. “Here, from the beginning to the end, you’ve been the only one.”

Xie Zuo’s hand trembled, and he instinctively wanted to pull away, but Huo Yao held it firmly.

Beneath his palm, Xie Zuo felt Huo Yao’s strong heartbeat, racing just like his own. Was he nervous and scared too?

Xie Zuo bit his lip. “Stop teasing me…”

“Go ahead, check it out.” Huo Yao urged. “My adoptive father’s biological son is also named Huo Yao. He made countless enemies in his life. Fearing for his only son’s safety, he adopted me secretly. The king knew, but not the queen. The marriage was hastily arranged, and my adoptive father wanted to keep the situation under the light. After some investigation, I discovered the truth. Since then, I followed my elder brother to guard the borders. While he served in the light, I served in the shadows. I failed to keep in touch. Not only could I not reach you, I couldn’t even send you a message.”

Xie Zuo couldn’t comprehend his emotions. He had suffered for a decade, only to realize it was all a misunderstanding. Huo Yao hadn’t betrayed him. Their inability to communicate and see each other had led to their current situation.

Moreover, Huo Yao professed his love for him!

He claimed Xie Zuo was the only one in his heart, from the beginning to the end!

Xie Zuo felt a surge of happiness, and all the previous conflicts and pain seemed trivial compared to the overwhelming sweetness he now experienced.

Xie Zuo couldn’t contain his happiness, his smile widening uncontrollably, and his eyes regaining their brightness and vitality.

Indeed, his charm was unmatched. No matter who Huo Yao pretended to be or whether he had his memories or wiped, he couldn’t resist falling in love with Xie Zuo!

Huo Yao tilted his head and gently kissed Xie Zuo. “Open your mouth,” he murmured.

Xie Zuo complied eagerly, meeting Huo Yao’s kiss with equal fervor, their lips and tongues intertwining passionately.

Beneath the moonlit sky, they embraced each other tightly, lost in each other’s presence.

Meanwhile, Mu Rong, who had been observing invisibly, couldn’t help but sigh internally, “Great Wumeng Deity, I didn’t mean to peek!”

.

Xie Zuo, completely immersed in the moment, had forgotten about his younger brother entirely. He returned to the Royal Inn with Huo Yao and entered their courtyard. As soon as they were alone, Xie Zuo was enveloped in Huo Yao’s embrace.

Wrapping his arms around Huo Yao’s neck, Xie Zuo showered him with kisses and affectionate gestures. Huo Yao gently pushed him onto the bed, his eyes filled with adoration. “Xie Zuo, how much do you love me?”

It was the first time Xie Zuo had seen Huo Yao smile so genuinely, and it took his breath away.

“Since you love me so deeply, why did you agree to get engaged to someone else?”

Ha…?

Xie Zuo’s rationality slowly returned, and his eyes widened in shock as he pushed Huo Yao away. “You, you-!”

Did he just call him by his name? He said Xie Zuo!

Huo Yao arched an eyebrow. “Do you want to explain how you came out of the abyss? How did you take over the identity of the crown prince of Yunzhao Kingdom?”

Xie Zuo felt like he had been struck by lightning, his mind in turmoil. His immediate instinct was to deny it. Feng Yi warned him that admitting the truth would result in being sent back to the abyss. He had only just reunited with Huo Yao, and he wasn’t ready to leave yet.

Xie Zuo forced a laugh. “What are you talking about? I have no idea what you’re saying.”

“Xie. Zuo,” Huo Yao said slowly, each word dripping with gravity. “Stop pretending. I didn’t drink the tea of forgetfulness before coming to Earth, and clearly, you didn’t either.”

Xie Zuo struggled internally but remained steadfast in his denial. As long as he didn’t confess, Huo Yao couldn’t send him back. He was just an ordinary prince of a minor kingdom in the human world now, oblivious to anything else.

“Who is Xie Zuo?” Xie Zuo feigned ignorance, his tone brazen. “I’ve never heard of such a person. Do you take me for his replacement? This is going too far. Is this how you show love?”

Huo Yao saw through his facade, sneering as he straightened up. “Then explain your engagement with the Yuzhao Kingdom.”

Xie Zuo’s heart sank. It was over! Initially, he was reluctant to marry Princess Lin, but fate intervened, and they ended up becoming a couple. The story was complicated, but in just one day, their roles were reversed. Huo Yao became the lovestruck one, while he became the heartless one!

Huo Yao’s jealousy flared as he realized Xie Zuo had been engaged to Princess Lin. Before descending to the mortal world, Huo Yao had made only one request to the Tiandi: not to drink the tea of forgetfulness. He wasn’t afraid of being stuck in the mortal world forever; he feared forgetting the one he truly loved.

But now, seeing Xie Zuo resisted and disliked him after their reunion, Huo Yao felt a coldness seep into his heart, mingled with doubts. After defeating the heart-eating insects and referring others as mortal, Huo Yao grew increasingly certain that Feng Yi had deceived him, and Xie Zuo hadn’t drunk the forgetfulness tea at all.

If Xie Zuo had lost his memory of their lives in the abyss, Huo Yao could have been understanding. But since Xie Zuo had no memory loss, Huo Yao couldn’t tolerate him being involved with someone else!

Faced with Huo Yao’s interrogation, Xie Zuo grimaced, unable to speak. Seeing Huo Yao’s expression darken further, Xie Zuo realized it wasn’t the right time for romance. Otherwise, he would be tortured by Huo Yao.

.

Just then, the door creaked open, and Mu Rong, lurking outside the prince’s bedroom, gasped as he witnessed General Huo being kicked out.

Xie Zuo moved to close the door, but Huo Yao reached out to stop him. “Give me an explanation.”

“I can’t explain now,” Xie Zuo struggled to close the door, “Why are you so petty? I was misled by your scam marriage. After ten years, can’t you be a little more patient? I swear, I only have feelings for you and no intention of marrying anyone else anytime soon.”

Huo Yao was incensed by Xie Zuo’s audacity, his grip on the door trembling. He wished he could strip Xie Zuo naked and give him a good thrashing!

Sensing an opportunity, Xie Zuo slammed the door shut.

Note: Mu Rong is a good buddy, yes.
