Chapter 57: Abyss Prison
In the Deep Dream Realm, Bai Wei quietly watched the despondent Edwin.
Indeed, he had always been here, witnessing Edwin gradually uncover the truth and then slowly transition from extreme excitement to his current state of despair and hopelessness.
It must be said, it's rather interesting. After all, in the game plot, players also learned about Visas's birth through Edwin, who was just as incapably slumped on a chair back then. It was almost like a scene replica, with the cutscene playing all over again.
In the game, after such a blow, Edwin basically exited the stage and there were no more storylines for him. He was firmly established as the crazy scholar who sacrificed everything in pursuit of Visas's power, only to find it was all in vain.
But now, Bai Wei wasn't planning to let Edwin exit the stage, so he silently snapped his fingers.
Beside Edwin, a new memory core suddenly appeared on the previously empty table.
After doing all this, Bai Wei leisurely retreated.
After a while, when Edwin was about to exit the Dream World, he noticed this memory core, and was taken aback.
Why is there an extra one?
Edwin clearly remembered there were only six of them, each of his avatars took one, so there couldn't be any left.
Could it be…
After a brief daze, Edwin suddenly stood up, looking around nervously.
His Deep Dream Realm had been invaded!
Who could it be, the Lord of Eternal Nightmare?
No, it's impossible.
If it were the Lord of Eternal Nightmare, he definitely wouldn't be alive right now. But even the Lord of Eternal Nightmare couldn't infiltrate his Deep Dream Realm, so who else in this world could?
He refused to believe that the extra memory core was due to his own mistake.
"Who's there?!" Edwin shouted loudly, "Why hide in the shadows? Since you've already come, why not come out and speak?"
Unfortunately, no one responded to him. In the empty Deep Dream Realm, only Edwin's echo was present.
Of course, this increased his pressure dramatically, for in this world, besides the Lord of Eternal Nightmare, no one theoretically could surpass him in the art of dreams.
But now, he had been unknowingly invaded to the deepest level of his dream realm; had the intruder not left a flaw, he wouldn't even have noticed.
No, this couldn't even be considered a flaw. The intruder entirely intended for him to discover it, yet Edwin still couldn't trace any of the intruder's tracks, not a single one. How could this not bring him fear and despair, already overwhelmed by Visas's... Huh?
Edwin suddenly thought of something.
Could it be…
He once again turned his gaze towards the memory core that appeared out of nowhere. From its composition, this memory core was no different from the previous ones.
Could it be possible that this memory core wasn't given by an intruder, but instead emerged after he learned the complete taboo?
It wasn't an impossible scenario. On the contrary, such methods were quite common in the Dream World; you had to know one, two, and three before four would appear. Like previously, Edwin had also worried about whether some anomaly would occur after learning all the taboos.
And now, it seemed this was the anomaly.
Otherwise, Edwin really couldn't explain who could have invaded his Deep Dream Realm.
And if the memory core in front of him was indeed, as Edwin thought, additional information, then what could it be?
Edwin narrowed his eyes slightly, attempting to calm himself down, but his heart, beating like battle drums, betrayed his state of mind.
What if, just what if, that taboo wasn't over yet, and this was the real taboo?
Once this thought popped into Edwin's mind, he couldn't suppress it anymore.
And besides, he had no choice, right?
So after taking a deep breath, Edwin walked to the table and reached out to the memory core.
When the information contained in the memory core dispersed in his brain, Edwin's pupils slowly dilated, like firewood about to extinguish suddenly flaring up again.
"So that's how it is..." he murmured, "So... it's there."
...
The next second, Edwin left the dream realm and came to his senses.
He saw Hewinia leisurely sitting in the array, and without bothering to ask if she knew anything, he immediately jumped up.
"I know, I know!" Edwin shouted excitedly, "I know where Visas's power is!"
Hewinia glanced at Edwin, pretending to know nothing and said, "Didn't you say it was hidden in that taboo?"
"Yes, but also no."
"If you don't explain clearly," Hewinia said blandly, "I'll rip your tongue out."
"The taboo itself doesn't contain the power!" Edwin said quickly, "But it points to a direction!"
"What direction?"
"Where Visas's power lies!" Edwin didn't mince words, "In the Abyss Prison of Contract Land! That's where Visas left everything!"
Hewinia looked at Edwin as if he were an idiot.
"You're not going to tell me your next target is Contract Land, are you?"
"It's the Abyss Prison! The most tightly guarded place in Contract Land, they've been guarding it for a thousand years!" Edwin said, "Because that's where Visas's strongest power is! As long as we get it, we can... I'm not lying to you, believe me!"
