Chapter 55: I Did It! I Did It!
"Teacher, we've arrived."
Isaiah opened his eyes and saw the giant device that seemed to connect the heavens and earth.
"Heavenly Voice Obedience," he said softly, "I've finally seen it."
Mina, standing beside Isaiah, was also observing the device, but unlike Isaiah's appreciation, her brows were filled with anxiety.
"Teacher," she whispered, "the Realm of Contracts wouldn't want to use this thing..."
"If they confirm that I have four Corpse Blocks," Isaiah said calmly, "I don't think they would hesitate."
Mina was even more worried: "What should we do then?"
"Do not worry, nor show that expression. We should be confident in our innocence now." After gently comforting Mina, Isaiah looked up at the large figure approaching him with a smile on his face, "Good afternoon, Warden."
The Warden stood before Isaiah, as robust as a small mountain, exerting immense pressure. Apart from Isaiah, none of the Star Relic magicians dared to meet his gaze.
"Welcome, Isaiah," the Warden said slowly, "Follow me, your place is ready."
"Oh, the Warden personally leading the way for me?"
"Of course," the Warden replied, "You are different."
Isaiah chuckled, "Then I'll gladly accept your offer."
The Warden nodded, then walked ahead, with Isaiah beside him. Though it was their first meeting, the two were like old friends who hadn't seen each other for years, and under mutual consent, the Guardians of the Contract Land and the magicians of the Star Relic deliberately slowed their pace, leaving space for the two to be alone.
"I noticed you were looking at the Heavenly Voice Obedience earlier," the Warden started.
"Yes," Isaiah replied, "It's hard not to look at it upon arriving here; it's quite eye-catching."
"And what do you feel about it?"
"Power and authority."
"Indeed, power and authority," the Warden said somberly, "It's a weapon crafted by deities, symbolizing the supreme will of the gods. When the gods command mortals to die, they must die, regardless of their status and strength, they can't resist, for this is the ultimate authority and power... Do you understand me, Isaiah?"
"Certainly," Isaiah nodded slightly, "You're warning me."
"Very clever," the Warden praised, "I enjoy speaking with intelligent people, no need for twists and turns, avoiding triggering my disdain for stupidity, unlike other Church representatives who only react with shock and ask why."
Isaiah didn't bother with pointless questions like "Are you talking about Rhein's representative?" Instead, he sighed softly, "As expected, you've already met before I arrived, and decided to target the Heavenly Sound Obedience at me?"
"That's why I said, you're very smart," the Warden said, "But I can also tell you, things haven't reached that stage yet, everything still can be salvaged."
"As long as I hand over those three Corpse Blocks?"
"Two will suffice."
"Oh, there's a way out?"
"Yes, you can keep one Corpse Block as your trophy, any one of them," the Warden said, "Along with the one you already have, you will still be the most powerful person in this world."
"And what about the Heavenly Voice Obedience?"
"We will proceed with the original plan using Ulu's name and retrieve the fingers and eyes," the Warden said, "But you can't covet those two Corpse Blocks."
"Indeed," Isaiah nodded, "That would be too greedy."
"As long as you understand," the Warden stopped in front of Isaiah's residence, locking eyes with him, "Now, what is your decision?"
"I don't see a reason to refuse," Isaiah said calmly, "If I truly had those three Corpse Blocks."
The Warden narrowed his eyes slightly, the casual chit-chat atmosphere instantly plunged, even Mina felt like the surrounding air several meters away was about to solidify.
After a long silence, the Warden slowly spoke, "So, this is your decision?"
"I have no intention of disrespecting the Heavenly Voice Obedience, nor the ambition to privately possess three Corpse Blocks," Isaiah said, "But I can't provide something I don't have. Warden, rather than forcing me here, why not find the real culprit? If I die, so be it, but wasting the Heavenly Voice Obedience and letting that damned person go free wouldn't be a good thing."
The Warden stared at Isaiah with crimson eyes beneath chains, like an abyss' phantom flame, seemingly ready to devour the world at any moment.
But ultimately, he did nothing, just casually remarked, "I understand your point, but rest assured, I won't let any guilty person escape."
With that, the Warden turned and left without looking at Isaiah again, and the Guardians of the Contract Land dispersed too.
Only then did Mina dare to approach, cautiously asking, "Teacher, that Warden..."
"Stronger than I imagined," Isaiah said quietly, "My status is nothing to him; he holds no reservations about me. If he confirms those three Corpse Blocks are with me, he will definitely act immediately. Before we arrived, he discussed with other major Churches; it seems they've agreed."
