Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?

Chapter 453: What Hunters Should Hunt Is... (Part 2)

Unfortunately, the parasites lost interest in that thing later, and started roaming the city again, making the survivors' situation difficult once more.

"What exactly is attracting the monsters..."

"It's open, hurry and grab the medicine!"

Time didn't permit Fanen to think deeply. He followed the people into the clinic, eagerly scavenging for supplies on the dusty shelves. Soon, a look of delight appeared on his face; he had found fever-reducing medicine and many other drugs as well!

This should be enough to sustain them until the national army arrives to rescue them, right? Up to this point, the survivors had no other choice but to firmly believe that the country would come to save them.

"Your sister can be cured now," said the same middle-aged strong man, appreciatively looking at Fanen, "What a brave and good brother you are."

Before Fanen could offer a humble response, the strong man continued, "Just take what's necessary. We still have to look for food. Bringing too much will slow us down! Damn, why are we Reid people so physically weak..."

There's a grocery store not far from the clinic. Although it might not have food that lasted this long, they had to try their luck.

People left the clinic one by one. Fanen was the last to leave, stuffing more medicine into his arms, thinking that even if his sister didn't use it, it might be useful to other survivors.

Today was truly fortunate and smooth; soon, they'll be able to go home, right?

Just as a smile appeared on Fanen's face, the middle-aged strong man suddenly blocked his path out with a reverse motion.

He looked up to see the man's face already covered in cold sweat, an ominous feeling swiftly surfacing in his heart.

"Don't come out, Fanen. While they haven't seen you yet..." The strong man gnashed his teeth, barely getting the words out.

"Run!"

Fanen didn't know what was happening on the street, but his hunter's son intuition made him run. He ran up to the second floor of the clinic, jumping through the window into another building, and it was only then that the noises from the street reached his ears.

The street was already crowded with parasites!

They were surrounded!

The most despairing thing was that the huge mutant that was previously feared was also present. No, perhaps it was this mutant that attracted all the parasites.

Fanen saw the survivor who initially broke away from the group to attract parasites. Now, a tentacle from the mutant was inserted into his brain, and with a bizarre smile, he slowly raised his hand and pointed at everyone.

A burst of sound exploded in his mind. Fanen's eyes widened; when did these worms start controlling people!?

They had seen parasites retaining some habits from their lifetime before, but it was the first time they'd seen a parasite retain memories, even leading them to capture people proactively!

Was it because of that mutant!?

At this moment, the giant eyeball of the mutant moved, locking eyes with Fanen.

"Eek!"

He shivered all over and started running again. He knew this city well; even from here, he could run back to the shelter with enough time.

But a flicker of hesitation appeared in his mind. If humans controlled by mutants could find them, then perhaps finding the shelter was also... possible?

The sudden despair almost suffocated him, and behind him came the shouts of the middle-aged strong man and the others. It didn't sound like dying screams, though, but more like warriors fighting for their lives!

Fanen turned back to glance, and the strong man happened to look over as well. Beyond hatred for the parasites in his eyes, there was encouragement for Fanen!

"All come at me!"

The strong man shouted loudly, and everyone else also startet to yell, immediately drawing all the parasites' attention. Doing this would only lead to a faster death, but the purpose was clear.

They were pinning their hopes on Fanen living on and bringing the medicine back!

Fanen didn't look back again. His heart was filled with a sudden rush of emotions, perhaps courage or something else. At least he had the responsibility to bring the medicine back.

The sounds of survivors and parasites gradually faded away behind him as he ran forward relentlessly. It was close, just a few blocks away, and he would be able to—

"Crack!"

The roof under him suddenly collapsed, and he fell through!

Damn it, this is the Sea God's church! Followers had long complained that the church's roof needed repair, but those priests only know how to extort money and won't repair it!

In anger, Fanen looked up, but the scene before him made him go cold.

The vast church was brimming with parasites!

The noise from his descent had already caused these parasites to rise. He had to run, run now!

But turning around, he was grabbed by the shoulder, sharp tentacles spraying a stinking liquid onto his face, leaving several blood marks on his delicate face. The stench penetrated deeply, and something that seemed like squirming parasites flashed across his vision.

Fanen's heart went cold.

However, remembering the efforts of the middle-aged strong man, a surge of strength welled up within him, breaking free from the parasite holding him and running deeper into the church. Behind him, the possessed parasites charged like a tidal wave.

There was still some time between infection and symptom onset, at least he could use this time to deliver the medicine back!

But there was no way to run far, hands, feet, waist, head... it was as if countless hands were pulling him, the frenzy of parasites wanting to tear him to pieces.

At this death's door, Fanen suddenly recalled the hunting knowledge his father had taught him as a child.

"Humans are also beasts of sorts. I'll teach you a few tricks to hunt them."

His gaze suddenly shifted, drawing out the dagger from his waist, fiercely stabbing the parasites clutching his legs, precisely severing their tendons each time. He immediately broke free from the restrictions and continued to run.

Life and death seemed to have triggered his potential; he seemed like a changed person.

However, the fact that Reid people had weaker physiques was undeniable.

Even though Fanen suddenly burst out in energy, he couldn't last long before being grabbed from behind by the parasites, tumbling into the church basement, seemingly breaking a bone as more and more parasites pounced on him, brewing despair.

"Buzz—"

Suddenly, a burst of light illuminated the dimly lit basement, where the priests piled up their amassed treasures, dazzling and resplendent.

But what was more eye-catching than these treasures was a door.

The light was rising from the door, filling the originally empty stone door frame with a swirling-like substance.

Fanen seemed to recall seeing a similar door in books, with only one type of door looking like this...

It's the Dungeon's Teleportation Gate!

As soon as the Teleportation Gate lit up, the parasites seemed attracted by something, lunging towards the vortex.

And Fanen, who was in their grasp, was also pushed inside!

"Ah ah ah—"
