NOVEL NEXT Chapter 552: Fire Fury
Adam's first match in the national tournament was against Gong Yunru, the talented flame-wielder that he had come across and defeated in the regional tournament.
At the time, Gong Yunru was just showboating and used very flashy skills in order to get the attention of others, and despite having great potential, wasn't as capable as he could be.
And yet despite him not reaching his full potential, he was second only to Su Lan in the rest of the regional tournament participants, which made Adam interested to see how far he could go and pity him.
Because of that, he persuaded the Branch Master to allow him along with Su Lan to participate in the national tournament.
However, he never expected that he would have to eliminate him with his own hands in the first round.
And he also never expected the area around Gong Yunru to be so powerful.
"Do you know what you've done to me?!" Gong Yunru bellowed.
His aura was so powerful that it was almost visible and his body became engulfed in bright red flames, with Adam feeling the great heat of his flames from 50 metres away.
"You tarnished my reputation and now all the ladies don't think I am straight anymore!" he roared as he burst towards Adam.
Adam laughed and never expected him to be so angry over rumours that he didn't even have control of anyway, but Gong Yunru's power was nothing to scoff at and he wasn't wielding a spear like he had before.
He was fighting unarmed, so Adam decided to do the same, but he realised how much of a mistake it was when he dodged Gong Yunru's first attack.
Restricting his body's power to that of a peak Advanced Cultivator just like he had done before, despite narrowly dodging his first wild swing, his abdomen was harshly burned by his wild flames.
It wasn't too bad and his abdomen quickly began to recover at a rate that was unbelievable and visible, but Gong Yunru was like a berserk beast that was covered in dangerous flames.
"After I heard what everyone was saying about us, I was enraged. Not only had you taken the girl of my dreams, but you also made the ladies no longer approach me. You ruined me!"
"But amidst all that rage, I awakened my unique power. Fire Fury. The angrier I get, the stronger my flames become, and now that I am faced with you, I can't hold back."
Letting out a beast-like roar, he blurted out a beam of fire from his mouth just like a dragon and it was so powerful and fast that Adam couldn't avoid it with the amount of power he was using.
Unwilling to rely on raw power to defeat such a beast-like opponent, Adam blocked the flames with his arms and was launched flying backwards and slamming into the wall of the arena.
Blurting out a curdle of blood, the impact rattled Adam's internal organs, and it was like he had been hit by a missile, while his arms were heavily burnt, but he had a smile on his face despite the excruciating pain his body was in.
"I knew you had something in you. A great power. But it's sadly still not enough to defeat me," Adam said with a smile.
Deciding that it was a good opportunity to improve his mastery of his own fire elemental affinity and wanting to see just how much power his flames could produce, he changed his energy into fire energy.
Observing the change, the powerful cultivators watching the battle were amazed and confused as to how that was possible, since it was unheard of for energy to change characteristics, but they were even more amazed to see the power of Adam's flames.
Despite only using the power of a peak Advanced Level cultivator, his flames were powerful enough to rival the incredible flames of Gong Yunru as he walked over towards him.
His arms and internal organs began to heal with the vast amounts of fire energy that coated and spread throughout his body, and Adam activated his Mind Ring, seeking to copy as much as he could from Gong Yunru.
His Fire Fury was a great power that would grow stronger the angrier he got and push his body past its limits, with the blaring heat of his flames increasing by the second along with his rage.
However, at the same time, he seemed to not be losing control and wasn't sane, which would ultimately lower his skill level.
But that didn't seem to be an issue and his overwhelming raw fire power was frightening and more than enough to force crush most opponents.
Unfortunately for him, Adam wasn't your average cultivator and his fire power was nothing to be scoffed at either, as he avoided the wild and powerful fire attacks that came his way while observing his opponent.
Even with his Fire Burst Movement Skill, he was struggling to avoid the attacks, and they were only growing faster and stronger, so if he couldn't mimic his opponent's Fire Fury, it would be very hard for him to win without using more of his power.
Gong Yunru's attacks were so unrestrained and explosive that those overseeing the match even had to put in place additional barriers to protect the audience.
Although everyone in the audience was more than capable of defending themself, it was just for convenience and they were all engrossed in the intense battle and also were starting to become uncomfortable from the immense heat that was emanating from the two youths.
With his Mind Ring activated to its highest power, Adam could see and feel everything around him to an incredible degree, but was placing all of that focus on Gong Yunru and watching all the changes in his body as he used his Fire Fury.
As he did, he couldn't help but smile and he knew that it was only a matter of time before that power became his to wield.
