Chapter 261: The Exploded Second-Generation Power Level Detector
"Father, we have no need to provoke them.
From what I've learned and deduced, the Dragon Balls reappear across the world a year after granting a wish, allowing the lucky to gather them again.
Smith Dole of the League of Assassins will host another Dragon Ball battle for everyone to compete. Our wish is simply to bring Mother back — and that's within the range of wishes he permits."
Xu Xialing then pulled up videos from the dark web related to Smith Dole — including his battles against Iron Monger, the Hulk, and even taking on the Hulk and Abomination two-on-one. Though there was no footage of the Mexico incident, she had found forum posts and pictures of the aftermath.
Both Xialing and Shangqi emphasized that in the last Dragon Ball battle, Smith Dole had shown the ability to effortlessly block any contestant.
Watching the videos and hearing his children's arguments, Xu Wenwu asked,
"Then what do you think we should do?"
The siblings exchanged a glance, and Xialing replied,
"Wait — wait for the Dragon Balls to reappear.
Father, with your Ten Rings army and my Golden Dagger Club, we can search the world for perfectly round stones. My brother's Dragon Ball originally looked like an ordinary stone, only revealing itself when the time was right.
While they're still stones, we gather as many as possible. Once they reveal their true form, we can pay big money to acquire them.
Some people won't know their value, and others will give up the fight — those are the ones who will sell. If we gather all the Dragon Balls before the League hands out entry tickets, we can go straight to Smith Dole to make our wish.
If someone else gathers some, then Father, you can enter the battle and win with your absolute strength — and wish for Mother's resurrection."
"Why not go directly to Smith Dole?" Wenwu asked.
Xialing explained,
"Right now, he's willing to give the world a chance. That doesn't mean he'll do the same if someone shows up at his door.
And since the Shenlong (Divine Dragon) can grant any wish… if someone caused him trouble, what's stopping him from wishing that person away? We just don't know.
Most importantly — Smith Dole has the power to protect and control the Dragon Balls."
Wenwu frowned. From the videos, the man seemed relaxed in battle, and Wenwu felt he could match that… but whether he was stronger or weaker, only a fight could tell.
Sensing her father's hesitation, Xialing pulled two cases from her backpack — each containing a second-generation Power Level Detector.
"Father, this is a battle power detector from Capsule Corporation. It measures a person's bio-energy, and the number represents their combat strength.
The second-generation model caps at 500 points. Capsule Corporation is one of Smith Dole's companies — if he dares to set the limit at 500, it's safe to say his power is above that. Let's test yours."
She strapped on the device, locked onto her father, and started scanning.
"50… 100… 150… 200… 300… 400… 500—" Bang!
The detector exploded in her hands. Both siblings froze.
Wenwu looked at the broken device.
"Faulty equipment?"
Xialing shook her head.
"No, Father. You exceeded 500 points. It can't measure past that, so it burned out. My brother and I are only around 20 points."
Wenwu realized that even with this test, it was still unclear who was stronger — him or Smith Dole. But Smith could fly, and Wenwu could not; he could only use the Ten Rings to jump high. That was a disadvantage.
To ensure nothing jeopardized their plan to bring his wife back, Wenwu decided to follow his daughter's suggestion.
"Xialing, we'll do it your way. We'll start by collecting Dragon Balls and stones.
Now, teach me how to use that detector. And why are your power levels so low? You both have my blood and your mother's — she was once the bearer of Talokan's Divine Dragon and possessed its power."
"…"
…
Meanwhile…
League of Assassins Headquarters — Reception Room.
Coulson's mind was on the massive stone tower under construction in the headquarters. No one knew exactly when it began, but it was already a thousand meters tall and still growing. It was clearly no ordinary structure.
He wondered why Smith Dole wanted something like this, and what it would be used for.
The doors opened, and Smith Dole entered.
Coulson stood and greeted respectfully,
"Inspector General."
Smith chuckled.
"Coulson, what brings you here? Delivering my ID, perhaps?"
"You're sharp as ever," Coulson said with a smile. "Yours and Stark's IDs are ready, but you'll have to collect them at S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters. They'll let you enter the HQ any time after that."
Smith was surprised — he'd expected Nick Fury to delay until the Avengers were assembled. Thor's arrival must have sped things up.
"Alright, I'll tell Tony. We'll stop by S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ soon. But I assume this isn't your only reason for coming?"
Coulson nodded.
"Correct. S.H.I.E.L.D. needs the fragments of the Iron Giant you took."
