NOVEL NEXT Chapter 730: Android Demonstration
We stepped into the building and the first thing I thought was that it looked like a car showroom.
But instead of cars being displayed, it was various different models of androids.
There were several other customers in the store and they were busy browsing the models on display, each of them with a staff member accompanying them.
We moved through the showroom and headed directly to a lift at the back.
Merissa pressed her hand against a scanner at the side of the lift, prompting the door to close and the lift itself to start moving upwards.
She didn't even need to press any buttons so I was wondering how the lift knew which floor she wanted to go to, but I guess maybe each staff member is restricted to a specific floor so the lift will just go to a specific floor for each specific staff member.
The lift stopped at a featureless white room which confused me somewhat until a couch popped out from the ground as we walked further into the room.
"This is our demonstration room, Miss Tera. Please take a seat and I will bring your android out in a moment~" Merissa informed us.
They have a room specifically for Android demonstrations…
The three of us took a seat on the couch while Merissa went over to the wall at the other side of the room and pressed her palm against it.
There was an audible beep before a part of the wall lit up, forming an outline of a doorway.
We watched as that part of the wall sunk into the ground and white smoke hissed from several unseen nozzles to hide the doorway from view.
Light then illuminated from behind the fog, revealing the figure of a feminine figure who was slowly walking towards us.
I honestly found this unnecessarily dramatic but I guess considering the amount of Credits we spent on this, they would want to make it feel as special as possible.
The figure finally stepped out from the smoke and… Eh?
That's… Renata?
Wait a minute… When we submitted the order, I distinctly remembered that the model that was displayed did not look like her at all?
Merissa gestured to the android, "Tadah! What do you think? We managed to recreate her in the likeness of the photo you sent us! And I think we did a really good job of it!"
A photo? I didn't send a… Oh…
Renata must have sent a photo of herself without me knowing to make them change the likeness of the android to match herself.
Honestly, that was a good idea because that way, we would have 'proof' that we actually did make an order for an Android that has Renata's likeness so if somebody tries to figure out why we have multiple Renatas on our ship, they would be able to find a source.
Then they can just assume that we replicated the android to create an army of them but with different hair colours.
The android then did a pose where she had both hands lifted up in a peace sign while lifting one of her feet up behind her in a cutesy pose.
"Hello, Mistress! I am here to take care of all your needs! Feel free to make use of me however you want from now on!"
She then changed her pose into one where she bent at her waist to blow me a kiss, flashing her cleavage at me in the process.
Ok… I guess there's some similarities to Renata but it wasn't totally the same…
Ries leaned forward in her seat excitedly, "So what can she do?"
Merissa clapped her hands together, "An excellent question! This is where we will demonstrate her capabilities! Please enjoy the show!"
Merissa swiped her hand across and a screen appeared in front of her, prompting her to press on it before she stepped back.
A transparent screen then dropped in front of us, making me wonder why they needed to separate us from the android.
The purple haired android straightened herself just as several pieces of furniture popped up all around her, ranging from tables, chairs, couches, beds and even a shower cubicle.
The android then started walking past the objects, her chest opening up to use various different cleaning tools to start scrubbing, dusting and sweeping the floor and the furniture expertly.
I honestly can say that this wasn't really that impressive because Renata already does this.
But without warning, the wall on the right suddenly slid open and several featureless androids stormed in, all of them wielding ballistic rifles.
The android immediately reacted with her arm opening up to project an energy shield in front of her, protecting her from the hail of bullets that were fired at her.
Her other arm then split open to transform into an autocannon which she then pointed at the group of androids in front of her, firing as many times as there were androids and blasting each one apart with deadly precision.
As though that wasn't enough, the ceiling slid open and another group of featureless androids dropped down from the ceiling, all of them armed with a mix of guns and melee weapons.
Our android maid then showed off her flexibility as she leapt over one of the enemy androids to use it as a shield while firing at the furthest android to eliminate it.
She then pushed towards the closest one while her improvised shield was being shot to pieces before she tossed it away to leap forward, her arm transforming into a blade and slicing the head of another android off.
She then kicked the decapitated head away with enough force to pierce through the chest of another android, leaving only three remaining who tried to rush towards her with their blades.
She expertly parried a slash and lopped off the head of another before returning to spinning around to slash through the last two androids at the same time.
She then did a flourish with her blade, transforming her arm back to normal as the androids in front of her collapsed into a pile.
Then, as though she literally just flipped a switch inside herself, she returned back to cleaning mode and started sweeping the corpses of the androids she just killed aside, gathering them into a pile which was then dropped through a chute in the floor.
Putting aside the fact that Renata could also do all of that as well, I would have to say that it's pretty impressive that an android was able to adapt to a situation like that and respond accordingly to the threats.
The transparent screen in front of us then lifted back up and I finally realised that it must have been some kind of bulletproof barrier that was supposed to protect us in case of shrapnel or a misfire during the demonstration.
Which made me wonder why Merissa was literally standing on the other side of the screen and putting herself at risk directly. Does this company not care that their own employees are putting themselves in danger or is she just that kind of person?
Oh wait… I guess she probably has a personal shield to protect her but they don't want to take chances with their customers just in case they didn't have one.
Merissa hurried over to us with an excited look on her face, "What do you think, Miss Tera? She has the ability to clean and service while also has exceptional combat potential! Also, she possesses the parts to be fully sexually compatible!"
Wait… I definitely don't remember adding in the last part… Renata? Why do you even… You know what? I don't want to know.
I cleared my throat, "Ahem… I see… Quick question… Does she know how to cook?"
Merissa nodded, "Of course, Miss Tera! She is able to operate any of the usual synthfood machines that she is able to--"
I shook my head, "No, I meant if she is able to make organic dishes?"
She blinked at me, "Ah… Umm… I apologise, Miss Tera… But I do not believe you have chosen the organic cooking module to be installed for her… Should we add that in?"
"No, I was just curious… It's fine. Umm… I like it, it's beyond my expectations and I'm satisfied with it."
She let out a sigh of relief, almost like she was expecting me to reject the android and ask for a refund or something.
"Oh, that's good! Ahem… I just need your confirmation on receiving your order and she will officially be yours, Miss Tera! We offer a ten year warranty and free servicing of any defective parts for five years! You can simply bring her to any of our branches if there are any problems and our staff will be happy to help you! If you need more androids, please do not hesitate to call me again!"
Hmm~ I guess we have ourselves an android now…
No, wait until we get back to the ship before you eat her, Renata.
