Chapter 665: Spar With My Inucani
Heck, I didn't even notice but Franz also came back sometime during my little test and he was also staring at me alongside my girls.
He then grumbled something under his breath before heading out again which confused me quite a bit.
I went over to them and pouted at Ries, "Seriously Ries… You could have killed me."
"Ahhh!! I'm sorry Boss!! I'll accept any punishment!! I can't believe I made such a blunder!!"
I chuckled and patted her head, "It's alright. To be honest, that was kind of fun. Reminds me of the time I used to play this gladiator arena mode in the game that had something similar."
I remembered that in some parts of the game, there were places that had PvP and PvE arenas that were designed to be like Roman Colosseums where you would fight your enemies using melee weapons. They even had a leaderboard for it and everything.
I won't say I was the best at it but I was at least in the top rankings for that game mode.
"Mis… Mistress! You… You were so cool!" Yumiko suddenly blurted out, her tail wagging furiously behind her.
I sighed, "No need to comfort me, Yumiko. I know I can't compare to you in fighting at close combat."
"That's… That's not it Mistress! The way you moved was… Really, really cool!" She insisted, her tail wagging even faster.
So cute~
I couldn't help but reach out and pat her head because of that.
So there I was standing there patting Ries with my right hand and Yumiko with my left hand.
Mmhmm~ This is why I have two hands~
"Daddy? Pats?"
I turned to the direction of the voice, only to see Renata looking up at me with a pouty look on her face.
Ugh… Looks like two hands are not enough…
I had to stop patting both of them to give Renata a head pat as well before pulling back in case they wanted even more since I didn't have enough hands for all of them.
Just as Ries and Yumiko were looking at me with a pleading gaze again, Franz returned and in his arms were two more metal sticks which were obviously just grabbed from whatever he had laying around in his workshop.
He grumbled as he passed them both to Yumiko and nodded at me, "Go ahead them. Both of you have a spar or something so that I can see how you fight."
Yumiko turned to me with her eyes shining, "Mistress! It would be my honour!"
Honour?! Honour to whoop my ass or something?! There's no way I can fight you on even grounds here! You're way better than me at this!
It's not like I have had proper training fighting with a sword you know?! All of my experience came from playing games! I'm just making things up as I go!
But looking at all three of them… There was a look of anticipation in all of their faces as though they were really looking forward to watching me spar with Yumiko.
I sighed, "Alright… But just saying, I'm not that good, ok? And honestly speaking, I would rather use a staff or something instead of a sword. "
Even in those fighting games, if they had a polearm or a staff as a weapon, I would prefer that over anything else. It had longer reach and was more versatile outside of combat situations as compared to a sword in my opinion.
Specifically, I would always go for the halberd if I had a choice.
In addition to the long reach, it can cut, it can stab, it can hook, and with enough force, it can also render shields useless.
And the people playing that game mode always loved to use swords.
My girls turned towards Franz at the same time, giving him a look for some reason.
He sucked in a breath, "Good thing I came prepared now."
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a few more metal bars before beckoning for me to go over to him.
I did as he requested and he took the metal bar from me before he laid it down on the ground to start taping the bars together.
With all of them taped together, it basically became a staff with its length.
He then handed it back to me which I accepted with a little trepidation. Is this really going to hold together with just a bunch of tape? It feels like it's going to fall apart the moment I swing it too hard.
I raised an eyebrow at him and he huffed, "It will hold, don't worry about it. If it actually breaks then just I'll deal with it."
Easy for you to say… You're not the one that has to use this to fight this Inucani who can move faster than the eye can see…
I can't even back out now since I can see Yumiko literally hopping in place in anticipation. Should I be worried that she seems overly eager to beat me up?
I took my position a short distance away from her, lowering myself into a combat stance with one end of my improvised staff pointing towards my Inucani.
"Please go easy on me…" I muttered.
Yumiko either didn't hear or didn't care because she suddenly disappeared from view.
I felt something coming at me from the left and I trusted my instincts, my arms immediately swinging the staff I held in my hands towards that direction.
There was a loud metallic clang as my improvised staff smacked against Yumiko's metal bar, deflecting her attempted horizontal slash away from me.
I'm honestly surprised that I even managed to deflect a blow from her to begin with but Yumiko didn't seem that bothered and disappeared from my view again.
This time the feeling came from behind and I shifted my body to swing the staff back in the direction of where the feeling came from.
Another metallic clang was heard as my staff smacked against Yumiko's metal stick, hitting it away once again.
She reacted even faster this time as her figure disappeared even before the sound could disappear.
I concentrated on the feeling that had been saving me from getting smacked by Yumiko, waiting for it to appear once more.
This time the feeling came from above and I reacted to it as well, swinging the back end of my metal pole upwards.
Our weapons clashed against each other once again and I watched as she used my pole as leverage to flip herself over me, aiming to land behind me.
I also turned myself to face her so I was prepared when she tried to swing at me again, using the end of my pole to parry her overhead slash towards the side.
Instead of changing her position, she stayed where she was and swung her other sword at me, aiming to hit me in the chest.
I held my breath as I recalled my time fighting in that arena against dual sword users and I shifted my weight to swing the other end of my polearm in an arc, catching her blade with the end and redirecting her attack upwards instead.
I then twirled the pole above me as in my mind, I was no longer holding several metal sticks taped together but an actual halberd while Yumiko was using dual swords.
Imagining the axe at the end of my pole, I swung the bladed part towards Yumiko but she leaned downwards to avoid it, letting my halberd swing past her from above.
She kicked off the ground and lunged towards me with one of her swords, the tip aimed at my chest once more.
I swung my halberd back, using the extra reach to my advantage as I smacked her sword with the pole, forcing her to spin away lest she lose her sword from the blow.
While she was still recovering, I stepped forward to try and thrust the blunt end of my halberd towards her back which she immediately deflected away with a slash as she spun back around.
Unfortunately for her, that gave me the momentum to swing the bladed part of my halberd back towards her neck.
She raised up her other hand to block it and that was checkmate!
I pulled back on my halberd, the axe part of my weapon should catch on to her sword which would then yank it out of her hands and-- Eh?
Why did I not feel anything when I pulled back the halberd?
Wait…
Looking back down, I realised that I was not holding a halberd but a metal stick that was taped together to form a metal staff.
I then felt a soft thump on my chest and I realised that was Yumiko tapping one of her metal sticks on me.
She looked a little unsure of herself despite her victory but before I could ask, Ries and Renata started clapping enthusiastically once again.
"Waahhh!! That was so cool, Boss!!"
Oh, right… I completely forgot we were simply sparring with these just to show the Zwerger… I got too into it.
