NOVEL NEXT Chapter 652: Help Them With Supplies First
"What the fuck is that?"
The Zwerger turned to me with a deadpan look on his face, "That… Is what is hunting us."
"That wasn't really what I was asking about…"
He raised an eyebrow at me, "Then what could you be asking about?"
"Well… I guess I'm also wondering just what kind of monster that is but the whole entire thing just raises a lot of questions you know? Like what is that snake thing and what happened to all these guys before they got stuck in those things? In fact, where was this monster to begin with? Did the Zwergers mutate into that or what?"
He scowled at me, "Do we look like we're some kind of monster experts or something? We're just here to mine, not study them. The only thing I know is that small pistols like ours don't do anything to them except make them more angry when they attack us."
"Right… So… I guess our job here is to clear out the monster from the station and save your colleagues from that egg thingy that is holding them?"
He nodded, "That's pretty much it. If it's too much, just escort us to the hangar bay. Hopefully they would get an assault force here to deal with the monster instead of just one Mercenary team."
I turned to the girls, "What do you think? Should we try to clear out the station?"
Amber puffed up her chest, "Of course! Let's do that! Why would we need to run away from something like that?"
Right…
I turned back to the Zwerger, "We can try to clear this station I guess. Which cameras are still active now?"
He gestured at the console panel, "You can see for yourself. Pretty much every single camera is down aside from the ones inside here and the corridor outside this room. It's like the monster knew where each of these cameras were and hunted them down so we couldn't use them. Our only saving grace so far is the fact that it doesn't seem to be able to open the security doors on its own and we're able to cut off the power for the door outside manually. How did you even get that door open anyway?"
"I have a team member who is really, really strong," I explained vaguely.
He cocked an eyebrow at me but didn't pursue the matter, probably thinking that it was just someone with either a cybernetic or gene combat mod.
There's still one thing I want to know though…
"Before the video skipped to the scene of the hall turning into that… What happened for there to suddenly be those egg-like things popping out from the ground? Surely that couldn't have happened in just a few minutes, right?"
He shrugged, "We don't know. We aren't even the security team stationed here. The earlier scene you saw was the security team manually starting the recording before stopping it. I suspect it's because at that time, they had decided to arm themselves and head towards the hall but ended up being caught by those things instead. In fact, everyone who tried to run for the hangar also ended up having those things jump on them. We were just normal miners who ran here and bunkered ourselves in here during the chaos. It was only later did we figure out how to use the console."
Damn it… So basically we're completely in the dark about where that creature is, what happened to the others who tried to take food from the mess hall but ended up getting caught by the creature.
There was no blood nor any signs of struggle on our way here at all, not even claw scratches on the walls, the ceiling or even the floor. So what did the creature rely on to capture their prey? Was it stealthy? Was it using brute force? We have no idea.
Guess we'll just have to wing it…
"Fine then. All of you stay here and we'll handle it."
Another Zwerger that had been standing at the side of the room spoke up, "How would we know whether you're gonna come back or not?"
I shrugged, "I guess if we don't return within a day, you can assume we got killed by that thing."
Not that I intend to die here of course.
The Zwerger frowned, "I don't mean that. I mean what if you all just ran back to your ships and flew off?"
"I can assure you we don't plan to do that. But I guess what you're looking for is something else aside from just my word?"
"Yeah. Help us grab some supplies from the mess hall first. So even if you die or run away, we'd at least still have some supplies left to wait for someone else to rescue us."
"Hmm… Fair enough. The mess hall isn't that far away anyway."
That guy actually looked surprised by my agreement to help, as though he was expecting me to reject the idea. Did they really think we're going to run away?
Wait… I guess it's because I know I have two Psionics on my side that I don't see this monster as a threat at all. If I didn't have Amber and Mara with me, I'd probably also be hesitating on dealing with the monster too.
None of them said anything as I led my girls back down the corridor and crawled through the barricade they made to return to the door that was still left slightly ajar.
Seeing how big the monster was, I don't think it can fit through the gap in the door that was only just big enough to fit a person so I wasn't too worried about it slipping in.
"Should I get the Power Armour?" I asked.
Ries tapped her cheek, "Hmm… I don't think there's a need to. You might end up destroying parts of the station if you do and it'll be hard for them to fix it later."
I guess that's true. We're also here for the crystals so if this station ends up being put out of service, then Yumiko wouldn't be able to get her weapons either.
"Let's be on alert for that creature then," I ordered, prompting the girls to nod at me before they took up position behind me to follow me to the mess hall.
Now that we knew what we were facing, the atmosphere felt more tense than before as I checked each corner before continuing past them.
Somehow, we managed to reach the mess hall without any incident which made me wonder if the claim that most of them were unable to get supplies back to their hideout was exaggerated.
Peeking inside, everything looked as we had left it so we headed inside to look for the supplies that we could bring back for them.
Well… It wasn't really that hard since the only thing this place had was synthfood so we just grabbed two of the synthfood boxes before we started to leave the hall.
But before we could leave… The door slid open and someone came in.
I instantly thought it was the creature at first but I realised that this one looked different.
The one shown on the camera recording was bigger with no facial features and unnaturally long limbs, the person that came in was an attractive woman with pale white skin, long black hair, large chest, flared hips and smooth, long legs.
Oh, and she's also completely naked.
She saw us and tilted her head as though wondering who we were.
Obviously I wasn't going to trust some random person that showed up out of nowhere, especially since this was a Zwerger station and this person looked nothing like a Zwerger so I lifted up my gun to point at her.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
The woman seemed even more confused and tilted her head the other way, as though trying to inspect me.
She then seemed to sniff in my direction before her face lit up and she skipped over towards me.
Yumiko appeared beside me with her rifle also pointed at the woman, "Stop! Don't come any closer! Identify yourself!"
The woman stopped and looked at Yumiko quizzically, then sniffed in her direction before scrunching up her face in disgust as though she thoroughly disapproved of her.
The woman then turned back to me and her face curled up into an unnaturally big smile before she leaned her back against one of the tables nearby and spread her legs open.
Her fingers then slid down to spread open her nether lips and she gave me a 'come hither' motion, her intentions with me on clear display.
What the heck is wrong with this woman? Wait a minute… Is she--
"That's the creature…" Mara muttered, right before Lea fired her sniper to pierce a bullet through that woman's head.
It blew a hole right through her face and the woman stopped moving.
I expected her to just fall over onto the ground but the smile turned into a frown before it stood up to turn its face that had a hole in the middle towards Lea.
Yep… This thing is definitely not human…
Open fire!!!
