What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?

We followed the Zwerger back to the security room and it looks like they have really bunkered down in this area.

They've put together an improvised barricade made out of furniture and boxes that they stacked on top of each other to block off most of the space.

The only part they left clear was a narrow path that was only just big enough for a Zwerger to pass through… Which also meant that the space was nowhere near big enough for any of us to fit through…

I looked at the Zerger leading us and it looks like he also just realised the problem and cleared his throat in embarrassment.

"Ahem… Hey guys!! I need your help moving this!!"

A Zwerger popped his head out from the top of the barricade, "You sure those people are ok?"

The Zwerger leading us huffed, "Of course! You guys saw everything on the cameras right?"

"Yeah… Sure, they didn't attack you on sight… But they might just be pretending…"

"I'm pretty sure they aren't that intelligent."

I frowned a little, thinking that he was trying to call us stupid at first until the other Zwerger responded.

"I suppose you're right… If they had reached that stage of intelligence, that door would have been opened long ago… Lads, let's get this stuff out of the way."

There was some movement coming from the other side before the sounds of stuff being moved could be heard.

We waited as the Zwergers slowly dismantled a part of their barricade until they made a big enough hole that we could crawl through without getting stuck.

The Zwerger that was leading us went first before I followed through after them.

When I managed to squeeze through the hole, I found a small group of Zwergers standing on the other side looking at me with wariness on their faces.

Only a few of them are armed and even they only had pistols with not a single long arm gun in sight.

I guess they weren't expecting this place to be attacked to begin with so they didn't give them heavy weapons.

The Zwerger that had been leading us cried out in excitement, "Look! You see?! I was right! They didn't abandon us! They sent Mercs to check up on us!!"

Another Zwerger who looked to be at least a decade older than the first one sneered, "I'm sure they are only concerned about the Ketrite Crystals that they have not been getting. If they really cared about our well being, they wouldn't have taken this long to send someone here."

"That's not true! If they really didn't care, they wouldn't even have bothered to send Mercs here!"

Well… I hate to break it to them but they were quite prepared to abandon you guys… Though I guess the fact that they did post a Mercenary hustle to deal with this showed that they at least thought about you guys for a moment…

The older Zwerger turned to look up at me with narrowed eyes, "So… You're supposed to be our saviour eh? Do you even know what you got yourself into?"

I shrugged, "That's what I'm here to find out, aren't I? So I heard there's supposed to be a monster that came out of a rock? What kind of monster is it? And from the places I've gone to so far, it doesn't even look like there's been a fight?"

The older Zwerger growled, "That's because of the nature of that monster. Follow me, I'll show you what I'm talking about. If you don't feel like you're up to dealing with this thing, then just try and lead us towards the hangar so we can get out of here instead."

"I guess we'll decide after taking a look at what you want to show us?"

He turned and led me towards what I assume was the security room and it looks like they have definitely camped here for some time with the discarded synthfood packets gathered in a pile on one side and a sleeping area they had set up on the other.

There were a few more Zwergers here and counting these guys, there were a total of thirty two Zwergers squeezed into this small space.

I'm surprised that they managed to last this long without going crazy in such a small space.

The Zwerger walked up to the terminal that had holographic screens being projected in the air showing the various cameras set up around the station. The only thing was that most of them were showing the "Offline" words instead.

He brought up another screen and it seems like it's a recording of sorts as it was showing the mess hall that was filled with people instead of it being empty.

Everything seemed to be normal until the Zwergers all looked up at something and I realised they might be listening to some kind of announcement as there wasn't any sound coming from the recording.

The Zwergers in the video then looked at each other in confusion before they slowly placed their food down and started leaving the mess hall.

The scene then changed and I'm guessing it was the person controlling the security camera switching the camera focus to another part of the station.

We watched as the screen changed to show some open hall where a single Zwerger was standing close to one of the walls as though he was waiting for everyone to gather here.

It didn't take long for the other Zwergers to show up as they filed into the hall, all of them looking as confused as their brethren as they slowly arranged themselves in the hall.

The lone Zwereger waited until the hall was packed before he stepped forward and started speaking to the assembled people.

Since there was no sound, I couldn't tell what was being said but it seemed to rile up the crowd as someone stepped forward and started pointing their finger at the Zwerger like they were accusing him of something.

That was when something suddenly crawled out of the shirt of the first Zwerger to lunge towards the one that was pointing the finger, jumping into his shirt and crawling underneath it.

From the short time frame that it was visible, it looked like some kind of snake except it was relatively shorter in length.

He seemed to panic and tried to slap it out while the other Zwergers backed away from him.

Then all of a sudden, the guy suddenly stopped panicking and he stiffened up before he fell on the ground and started rolling around.

He tried to get up on his feet again but he only managed to push himself up on his knees before he stopped and collapsed back on the ground again.

Everyone else had been so distracted by the first Zwerger that they didn't realise there were more of those snake things that dropped down from the ceiling to slither into their clothes.

Most of them then started panicking just like the first guy while the others either started running or trying to help the Zwergers around them.

But those who tried to help also ended up leaving themselves open for another of those snake things to slither up their trousers and ended up in the same position as the ones they were helping.

The ones who tried to run found that there was another group of those snake creatures that had positioned themselves at the doorway and most of them also got jumped by them.

A handful still managed to run out of there but a good ninety percent of everyone that had been in that hall were taken down instantly.

That was when I realised the first Zwerger who was affected by the snake thing had collapsed on the ground and seemed to be convulsing like he was having a seizure or something.

The recording then stopped there and the old Zwerger tapped on the console to bring up another screen.

This time, it was the same hall but in a completely different state.

Egg-like things seemed to be growing out from the ground and each of these things had a Zwerger constrained in them with only their heads poking out.

I only knew they weren't dead because their heads were still moving around like they were trying to escape but no matter what they did, the things holding them did not budge.

That was when a white creature that had the body of a human but a faceless head and elongated limbs crawled in front of the camera.

It seemed to regard the camera for a moment before it moved its hand in front of it and the screen changed to show the words 'Offline'.

That means all the screens that showed the same words were also once cameras but had been destroyed by this creature.

The old Zwerger then turned to us, "So what do you think?"

Well… There's only one thing I can say after seeing that…

"What the fuck is that?"
