Chapter 234: A Revalation
For a moment, I was left speechless.
'What is he doing here?'
It wasn't only him, but also who he brought with him. Damian Dracule walked out of the shadows, carrying Khalissi and Selthia unconscious bodies over his shoulders. I could hear their heartbeats, so I knew they were still alive.
His pale yellow eyes stared directly at me without even sparing a glance for Cassian.
'How is he here? I sent my ravens to keep an eye on him in case something like this happened.'
I didn't know how he got here, but I readied myself for a fight. Somehow, I would have to defeat him while protecting both Khalissi and Selthia.
Seeing my reaction, Cassian slowly turned his head to see what I was staring at. He looked just as shocked as I was.
"Damian, what are you doing here?"
Damian still didn't react to him and only continued to stare at me with his pale yellow eyes. Looking at him, I found it hard to believe that I was staring at another person.
'What is with him? This is the first time I was ever face to face with someone whom I couldn't read.'
If you asked me how old he was, I couldn't tell you. Even his face was unreadable. Even his heartbeat was mostly quiet, so I had to strain my ears to hear it. If I had to guess, his heart was the size of a grape from how it sounded.
I felt a strong urge to act.
'I'll summon Cerberus. My top priority is securing the girls' safety first.' I thought.
"Stop."
Just as that thought crossed my mind, Damian finally spoke. His voice, this was the first time I was hearing it and he didn't even sound like a person, more like an alien trying to mimic human language.
"I'm not here to fight," he said. "Let's make a deal."
I kept my guard up, waiting for him to make a move. I wasn't sure if this was a trick or not. Why would he want to make a deal with me?
"What are you doing, Damian? Stop being a freak and kill him!" Cassian shouted from the ground, as his body slowly put itself back together.
I rested my foot on his throat and pressed down just hard enough to shut him up. Damian didn't even spare him a glance. It was clear that his sole interest was me.
"You… fool…"
Cassian was adamant about speaking, and to be honest, I was a bit interested in what he so desperately wanted to say since he was fighting so much.
"You're fool and a freak! But if there is one thing I know is that you care about this city! I've seen how much you care by how you secretly try to help the people of this city. Well, this wolf is the one threatening your precious city and its people."
For the first time, Damian stared down at Cassian. His expression was unreadable.
"He's not the real threat here," Damian said simply.
His words nearly caused the dying Cassian to explode with anger.
"What are you saying?! He is the one who endangered us! He killed our people! If he isn't the real threat, then who is?!"
Damian continued to look at him with an unreadable expression before turning his gaze to look directly at Selthia who was still hanging unconscious over his right shoulder. I felt an uneasiness settle in the bottom of my stomach when I saw him look at her. For some reason, I hated it.
"It's her. She's the real threat."
At that moment, Cassian and I were stunned. Both of us were wondering what he could've meant.
Seeing that both of us were confused, Damian began to explain.
"Do you even know who she is, the woman you let into your pack? She's the sea witch's daughter."
The sea witch? I stood expressionless, not understanding the importance of what Damian said, but Cassian seemed to grasp it well.
"No, it can't be," Cassian said in disbelief. "What is one of Thalassa's daughters doing as part of a werewolf pack?"
"That hardly matters. You remember what happened the last time we angered her?"
"Yes, that mad woman almost killed us all. She was the one person the djinn ever feared."
I stared into Damian's eyes, and for the first time, I could see a hint of emotion within them. That emotion was unbridled fear. His pupils were shaking while the rest of his face remained blank.
"There are only a few unspoken rules in the supernatural world. One of the most important rule is to never anger the sea witch. Going against her daughter will surely anger her," Damian said.
From what I gathered, this sea witch was Selthia's mother. Selthia had told me stories about her mother before, but I mostly thought she was exaggerating. Looking at Damian and Cassian's faces, I'm guessing it wasn't an exaggeration.
So the sea witch did sink cities, destroy islands, and even threaten continents. Only a monster like that could have Damian scared enough to offer a deal between us. But that also offered another problem.
Should I be worried about this sea witch? If Selthia was her daughter then...
"You mentioned something about a deal before," I said, returning my attention to Damian.
"Yes, I'm willing to make a deal with you, as long as it's within reason," he said.
Hearing those words, I still wasn't sure if I could trust him or not. He was a man I couldn't read just from a glance, and this made me a bit hesitant about making some sort of agreement with him.
But there was one thing I could do. I could judge his intentions just by his actions. Simply put, I needed to gauge his action to find out his intentions.
With that in mind, I returned my attention back to Cassian. His body was slowly healing, in a matter of minutes, he would be fully healed. Thinking this, I didn't waste a second and tore through Cassian's chest cavity with just a single plunge of my claws. He didn't see it coming, as he was still processing the whole sea witch situation.
His eyes widened in shock as he desperately clung to my arm, but there was nothing he could do. At this stage, taking his heart would be as easy as picking an apple from a tree. His grip was weak, not nearly as strong as it used to be.
"This is the end of the Veylmont clan. If only Victor had heeded my warning that day."
Cassian tried to speak, but his mouth just opened and closed without a sound escaping his lips. At that moment, all I could think about was what a 5,000-year-old vampire heart would taste like, and before I knew it, I had already plucked it out.
