Wasteland Commander

Chapter 46: Arrival of the Superweapon

The sudden burst of strength from the sea monster made Ye Fan gasp.

It's important to know that these sea monsters, unlike the zombie hordes led by the Corpse King, fight completely on instinct.

Yet even so, this wave of fury still places immense pressure on the Dawn Army.

Those powerful firearms don't unleash their usual deadly impact as they did against the zombie hordes; oftentimes, a single sea monster requires many soldiers to focus their fire.

For instance, Tanya, a heroic unit, also lost her formidable destructive power when facing the sea monsters; even if her precision shots hit the creatures' eyes, they could still advance based on scent, becoming even more ferocious.

The Dawn Army's warplanes have already taken off, but there are too many seagulls here, greatly diminishing the lethal effect of the scattered missiles.

Ye Fan can't be bothered with the battlefield situation right now; he has a more important task to attend to.

That is to continuously lay out defenses.

He still has money at hand, continuously producing and constructing, which is the key to maintaining this battle.

Towers, giant cannons, and Light Prism towers keep popping up because he now has two base vehicles, doubling the construction speed, allowing for rapid setup.

The Light Prism Tower rotates once, a laser shoots out, instantly piercing through a great white shark's head.

The great white shark struggles desperately, and with a blast, a giant cannon immediately obliterates its head.

The shark's death quickly drives the surrounding sea monsters to swarm in and devour its flesh.

Although the great white shark's corpse was devoured clean in just three minutes, it bought precious time for the Dawn Army defending this stretch of the wall.

Three minutes allows the wounded to retreat and provides the soldiers a chance to catch their breath, which is crucial.

This segment of the wall is stabilized, but another problem arises.

A humpback whale emerging over the wall becomes a huge threat, its massive body swinging left and right, trying to overcome the annoying barrier.

Its huge body nearly sweeps all the soldiers on this stretch off the wall, surrounding towers collapse with loud crashes, resulting in significant casualties—something unimaginable during the previous zombie siege.

The cannon strikes its body, creating fist-sized holes, yet they're still not lethal.

This mutant beast has not only increased in size but also its skin resilience and life force have become extremely tenacious.

If it were just this spot it'd be manageable, however, the whale's actions are influencing other whales to mimic it.

Overcrowded conditions around the base of the wall lead whales to start climbing over it.

And there are also gigantic octopuses, these octopuses look as big as Xiaoba was when he was born; Ye Fan thought Xiaoba was adorable, but once these octopuses become enemies, they are extremely dangerous.

Their speed climbing the wall far surpasses the whales', the enormous whale struggles uphill, finding the thirty-meter high wall comparable to scaling a cliff, whereas octopuses have no such trouble.

Spreading a tentacle, they directly latch onto the top of the wall and then their body climbs over.

Nearby bullets rain down, yet it's difficult to cause a lethal blow to such soft-bodied creatures.

Their huge tentacles swinging can easily turn entire rows of soldiers into rolling pumpkin gourds.

Luckily, the timely appearance of the Light Prism Tower curbs the octopus's fierce assault.

This burning destructive force greatly harms the octopus, enough to pierce its body.

Ye Fan urgently deploys two Light Prism Towers in a region where octopuses are landing, only to see a big whale trying to cross the wall there.

Once devoid of the wall's constraint, if this big whale enters the inland area, it will surely cause catastrophic consequences.

Ye Fan is already considering ordering the air force to ignore the threat of sea birds and launch a precise low-altitude strike, but that will definitely incur losses to the fighter jets.

Because the enormous numbers of sea birds, now with bloodshot eyes, particularly those frenziedly darting shearwaters, are extremely fast and can threaten the jets, the Dawn Army's air force dares not easily engage.

At this moment, the rumbling armored group arrives.

Forces that were battling zombies in the wilderness, the armored group returns first.

"Sir, are we too late?"

"No nonsense, quickly blow the whale back for me!"

Over twenty Apocalypse Tanks aim their cannons at the whale's half-crossed body over the wall.

All gunners act in unison, dual-barreled artillery fires together!

Boom boom boom~~~~!

Massive fireballs erupt on the whale's body, each Apocalypse Tank fires two shells, over forty shells hit simultaneously, the powerful impact directly overturns the whale!

Rumble~~~!

The whale's gigantic body flips back to the other side of the wall, severely damaged, it frantically wriggles on the ground.

It won't last long, ocean mutant beasts, although they can leave water and survive quite some time, injuries will cause them breathing difficulty, not to mention being so badly wounded.

But this kind of creature is truly resilient, even a Tyrant zombie couldn't withstand the concentrated fire from over twenty Apocalypse Tanks, yet it didn't die immediately.

The machine guns on the city wall were immediately set up, aiming at the whale for a finishing shot.

Fire at the head; it's already a bloody mess.

After a dense burst of gunfire, the whale finally stopped moving.

A whale falls, life flourishes.

A large group of sea monsters around rushed over, starting to feed on the whale's carcass, giving the Dawn Army on the walls a momentary respite.

Ye Fan also let out a sigh of relief; this ocean giant beast was terrifying.

If there were a leader commanding them, Ye Fan didn't know what kind of base could withstand such a creature.

Numerous tanks were still arriving and quickly joining the battle.

All the tanks concentrated behind the city wall; if any large sea monster climbed over the wall, they would immediately fire and push it back. Once a sea monster was flipped over, it would be very difficult for its injured state to climb over the wall again.

Even so, the situation was still very unfavorable for the Dawn Army because the types of sea monsters were simply too many.

Under the city wall, the piled-up sea monsters had almost reached the height of the wall, a speed much faster than the zombies.

A turtle actually approached the city wall, completely impervious to bullets; no firearm could penetrate its shell.

Its head was relatively vulnerable, but it shook its head erratically, making it hard to kill effectively.

Luckily, it crawled further ahead and was fired upon and pushed back by the tank; otherwise, it would have taken some effort.

Then there were the flying fish, which flew over the city wall and darted around, attacking people on sight.

Fortunately, the armored unit returned, and so did the Dawn Army's canine unit.

A large number of military dogs engaged in combat, numbering up to two thousand on Dawn Island. The dogs hunted the flying fish that bypassed the wall as a pack, like a wolf pack. Once a flying fish landed, a dozen dogs would rush over, fiercely tearing the fish's body to shreds.

The casualties for the Dawn Army were considerable, and Ye Fan's side continued to dispatch troops, almost matching the battlefield consumption.

At a critical moment, fortunately, the main forces of the Second Field Brigade returned.

"Sir, we are back!"

The disciplined Red Alert Soldiers ran breathlessly; Ye Fan didn't bother saying much and immediately waved them in, reinforcements immediately joined the fight!

The artillery units had already set up positions in the rear, and once they were in place, they needed no command, just bombarding the east coast.

With massive artillery explosions on the beach, the precarious situation finally eased somewhat.

The sea monsters have a fatal flaw; they lack unified command. Whenever a sea monster is killed, the nearby monsters immediately devour it, causing their attacks to lack continuity.

But they are constantly drawn forward by the scent of blood, creating a temporary balance between the Dawn Army and the sea monsters.

The armored units, artillery units, and the twenty thousand soldiers of the Second Brigade managed to stabilize the situation with mass bullets and shells, preventing the mutant beasts from breaching the wall.

This can't guarantee avoiding casualties, as the sea monsters include giant squids and electric eels, which may harm the soldiers on the city wall.

There are even deep-sea sea snakes. These writhing serpents exceed even ancient titan boas in size, the smallest being thirty meters long.

They can twist their way onto the city wall, raising their massive heads. If bitten, no one would survive. Even the Three-Star Soldiers who can resist zombie viruses can't withstand this world's most poisonous snake.

Moreover, they no longer rely heavily on venom, as their huge heads can swallow a person whole without the stomach bulging.

Killing them is very difficult. Land snakes can still move a while after their heads are severed; how much harder it is to sever the head of these creatures.

Ye Fan continued to mobilize troops and set up defense lines. The Light Prism Towers and Giant Cannons became the main defense force, causing continuous damage outside the city.

However, the sea monsters' destructive power is immense, and these defensive weapons are also frequently damaged, which makes Ye Fan very distressed.

The more than fifty million money he has gets spent like water flowing, and although the Dawn Army's strength remains high with his continual reinforcement, at this rate, Ye Fan will soon go bankrupt.

"Damn it! Defending against these sea monsters attacking the city is ten times harder than against zombies. Even if faced with millions of zombies attacking Ice City, I could defend with ease, but these sea monsters are incredibly tough; each one is hard to deal with."

"Those sea birds are annoying; getting air superiority is tough!"

"Can't care too much, even if we lose some planes, we must bomb outside the city wall; this costs too much money."

Ye Fan gritted his teeth. Although the innumerable sea birds pose a great threat to the aircraft, he has to make some sacrifices.

Just as he prepared to have the Air Force engage, the messenger Wang Meng rushed over urgently.

"Sir! Good news!"

"What good news? Speak!"

"The units gathering depleted uranium have returned and have delivered it to the Engineers. The Engineers asked me to inform you that the self-destruct truck weapon, comparable in power to a small nuclear bomb, is now deployed!"
