Wasteland Commander

Chapter 45: The Terror of the Deep Sea

Ye Fan finally completed the last section of the city wall.

At the moment the wall was completed, he felt his hands tremble a bit.

Because the time constraints were really tight.

No sooner had the Dawn Army's fighter jets passed over, the Sea Monsters landed on the other side.

Ye Fan didn't know how the mastermind behind the scenes promised those on the ship, but after disembarking, they desperately ran inland.

The seemingly plentiful flesh and blood on the ship were far from enough to satisfy the Sea Monsters.

A cabin's worth of flesh was devoured almost entirely in one bite by a 30-meter-long killer whale.

Soon, the Sea Monsters, unable to find food, turned their attention to the still fleeing people.

It was then Ye Fan witnessed how the Sea Monsters moved on land.

Those large fish twisted their bodies, propelling themselves forward on the ground with their fins, now much stronger than before.

Though they seemed slow, their speed was much faster than a human running.

Crabs crawled sideways, their eight legs effortlessly crossing over cars and even the roofs of villas.

Turtles also moved quite swiftly, directly toppling over common obstacles.

A massive octopus climbed a skyscraper, its tentacles, nearly 30 meters long, proving it was undoubtedly in the ranking of deep-sea overlords.

Some flying fish were even more formidable, twisting a few times before darting like arrows at the fleeing people, and once hit, they pierced right through.

Of course, the most terrifying of all were the whales; several mutated humpback whales on the beach were over a hundred meters long, their gigantic bodies crushing villas into ruins like a collapsing building wherever they passed.

Those fleeing ran desperately forward; they didn't need to be particularly fast, just faster than their companions.

They had a firm idea in mind, and that was to reach the inland area of Dawn Island.

Once they entered inland, no one could make them leave; they could hide in slums, scavenge for garbage, compete for food with wild dogs, as long as they survived.

Thus, even as those beside them were caught, one by one, and devoured by the Sea Monsters, it didn't stop their forward steps.

In the darkness, more than a thousand people fled, all disembarking from these ships.

Continuously, some fell behind, some were overtaken by the large fish leaping over them, pressed down and swallowed whole.

Some were overtaken by crabs, whose massive claws swung and snapped them in half.

Others were directly snatched by octopus tentacles, tossed into their mouths like sweets.

Yet, many who ran fast had gained a lead within the crowd, seeming temporarily not to be eaten by the Sea Monsters.

They raced through the night, seeing a light up ahead, feeling hope rise instantly.

But when they reached the vicinity of the light and saw it was a searchlight from a high-walled watchtower, they despaired completely.

Here stood such a tall wall, so high it filled them with despair.

They had no prior knowledge of this, and now they were dumbfounded.

Someone discovered a gate in the city wall.

"There's a gate here! There's a gate!"

"Open the gate! Let us in!"

"We don't want to die, Mr. Ye Fan, let us in, we're willing to join Dawn Island."

"Save us! Mommy~~~! The Sea Monsters are coming!"

"Why haven't you opened the gate? Do you have no humanitarian spirit?"

Ye Fan stood on the city wall, looking down at the crying crowd, his expression indifferent.

These people brought the Sea Monsters to Dawn Island and shamelessly demanded he let them in.

If not for Shuang'Er's warning, he would have suffered a great loss today.

So, in the face of their pleas, Ye Fan was unmoved, and without Ye Fan's orders, the Dawn Army also ignored these people, readying themselves for the imminent battle.

Disregarding them, those below were on the verge of collapse.

Some squatted on the ground in a ball, others wailed, some made the sign of the cross on their chests, while some recited Amitabha.

Many gathered, trying to force open the city gate together.

But it was undoubtedly futile; this city gate had two doors, each made of one-meter-thick steel, not something even artillery could budge, much less human strength.

At this time, the Sea Monsters weren't in a hurry to chase them, as many Sea Monsters had entered the bladed area on the ground.

The upward-facing blades could easily cut open the bellies of the writhing large fish.

These cold-blooded animals were somewhat insensitive to pain, continuing to move forward even as their bodies were sliced by the blades, making their wounds deeper and deeper.

A bull shark over ten meters long was directly split in half.

The only ones able to dodge the blades were the flexible octopuses and the hard-shelled turtles.

Even the gigantic whales bore deep wounds from the blades, though the thick layers of whale blubber mitigated the damage from being fatal.

Even Ye Fan himself hadn't expected how effective the blades would be.

In a short time, the beach was littered with the corpses of countless mutated large fish.

The key was the time constraints; if he had prepared a few kilometers of blade traps in advance, this Sea Monster siege would have been half as difficult.

Some Sea Monsters halted, beginning to devour their comrades' corpses.

This gave the Dawn Army time; all units quickly mounted the city walls, and Ye Fan had time to build more sentry towers, strengthening the wall's defenses.

The 20mm caliber anti-aircraft and anti-ground machine guns now became Ye Fan's main force for mass production.

Facing these sea monsters, ordinary handguns, rifles, and light machine guns clearly don't have enough firepower; only sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, anti-aircraft machine guns, and even autocannons are effective.

The Second Field Brigade has not returned yet, so Ye Fan must withstand the first wave of the sea monster assault no matter what.

Originally, the blade array proved extremely effective; the sea monsters were busy devouring their companions and fighting each other, temporarily not attacking the walls.

But the commotion caused by those people started to attract the sea monsters.

A group of people ran over, collectively crashing into the gate. They risked their lives coming to Dawn Island, not to become the sea monsters' food. Since the Dawn Army won't open the gate, they'll try to force it open together.

Although the act is like a dragonfly shaking a stone pillar, the chant of these people surprisingly began to draw the attention of the sea monsters.

Some sea monsters, unable to get food, started moving towards the wall.

These people are still ignorantly crying out: "Ye Fan! You despicable coward, watching us die without helping! You don't deserve to hold Dawn Island!"

"Damn Dawn Army! You deserve to be eaten by sea monsters, haha! We're finished, and you shouldn't fare well either; the sea monsters will avenge us!"

"We only want a chance to live, what wrong have we done? Why won't you let us in?"

Ye Fan raised his hand on the wall and pointed downward: "These people have gone mad, send them on their way."

The iron-blooded Dawn Army soldiers immediately raised their guns and pulled the triggers!

Da-da-da~~~!

A burst of gunfire rained down, and the hundreds of people gathered below the wall were instantly turned into sieves.

Those disturbing screams finally disappeared, but the situation that followed was even more severe.

A large number of seagulls first sensed the bloody atmosphere here and began flying towards the wall.

And ahead of the seagulls were flocks of sea swallows.

These sea swallows are almost the fastest birds in the world, flying like high-speed unmanned aerial vehicles, rushing in like lightning.

And the Dawn Army on the wall immediately became the targets for these birds.

In fact, alongside the sea, more people have died at the hands of sea birds than sea monsters, which has made sea birds habitually attack upon seeing humans.

Today these sea birds met their match.

This time Ye Fan's troop build-up was very targeted.

Besides the dual-purpose anti-aircraft machine guns, there were also a large number of flamethrowers.

When the sea birds approached, flamethrowers on the wall began fiercely spraying.

Flamethrower Warriors automatically formed groups; when one finished attacking, the second quickly followed.

Each Flamethrower Warrior was equipped with several Army Soldiers, with clearly allocated numbers of heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft machine guns.

This is the specialty of the Dawn Army; two sieges by zombies have brought them rich experience, and every Red Alert Warrior would possess this experience, even recruits would automatically have it ingested into their systems.

So in terms of coordinated teamwork, no unit can compare to the Dawn Army.

Despite this, the Dawn Army suffered losses during the first wave because the sea swallows' speed was too fast, seemingly exceeding 500 kilometers per hour; some soldiers were caught off guard and injured.

Fortunately, nearby comrades immediately supplemented and stabilized the position, and flamethrowers began firing wildly.

The sea birds encountered flamethrower fire for the first time and quickly began falling down, immediately becoming food for other sea monsters upon touching the ground.

Below the wall, more and more sea monsters began to arrive.

The scene was shocking; in terms of absolute numbers, these sea monsters may not exceed the zombie horde.

But in scale, they are undoubtedly more overwhelming than the zombie horde.

Due to their sheer size, it gives one the illusion of returning to the Jurassic era.

For example, that hundred-meter-long humpback whale makes any idea of attacking seem hopeless.

The short calm lasted only three minutes.

After three minutes, the sea monsters piled up to a certain number, and those at the front were left with no way back; they could only continue forward, climbing the wall.

Fortunately, the walls are high enough, and the sea monsters aren't very good climbers.

But as the sea monsters pile up, it won't take long before they spill over the walls.

At this point, the Dawn Army began to fire.

All firearms aimed downward, and with Ye Fan's command, they collectively opened fire!

Countless bullet torrents fell like a storm, drenching the area under the wall in bloodlight!

No aiming was necessary, nor was there a need to target vital spots; these thick-skinned and tough sea monsters can only be dealt with by concentrated firepower!

Pu-pu-pu-pu-pu-pu-pu~~~~!

The sound of gunfire filled the scene, interspersed with the sound of bullets hitting flesh on the walls.

Some smaller sea monsters were killed instantly under this intensive attack.

And those enormous sea monsters, after being injured, unexpectedly provoked their ferocity!

A humpback whale surged up, its enormous head crashed into a watchtower on the wall, directly collapsing it!

The hundred-meter whale had mounted the wall!

A giant squid directly sprayed a torrent of black liquid like a heavy rain; many soldiers were contaminated, their bodies corroded, causing dozens of casualties on the spot!

A 60 to 70-meter-long electric eel emitted a powerful current, directly flattening an area on the wall!

Numerous flying fish about three meters long flapped their wings, flying directly over the wall, causing chaos behind it.

The Dawn Army faced the sea monsters for the first time and immediately experienced the terror from the deep sea!
