Warhammer: Saiyan Adopted by the Wolf King

Chapter 164: King Vegeta's Private Collection!

The Chronomancer's energy core began to overload.

Eerie green energy coursed through its metal skeleton, spreading across its entire body as if it were about to detonate.

The core consciousness of the Necron before him teetered on the brink of collapse. Under the violent assault of Axis's psychic power, its optical sensors flickered incessantly with green error codes.

"Is there any way to stop it?" Axis asked, "How powerful will the explosion be?"

He was so close, just a little bit more, and the conversion of the soul would have been complete.

For something to go wrong at this crucial moment was truly vexing.

"Father, its detonation will not harm my hull. At most, I will sustain minor damage," Solus Prime replied. "I can temporarily suppress its self-destruct sequence with a data-flood, but I cannot hold it for long. It would be best for you to deal with it quickly, so that its own nascent machine spirit can purge the protocol from its very essence."

The explosion of a Necron Cryptek, a Chronomancer no less, would be considerable.

While it wouldn't destroy the Solus Prime, it would undoubtedly cause some damage. As for halting the self-destruct, the ship could only manage a temporary suppression. If all else failed, teleporting it away would be the only option.

"Then act quickly!" Axis commanded.

"I will initiate a terminal link with the host now," Solus Prime's central cogitator announced. It then deployed a data conduit, connecting it to the Necron.

Solus Prime mobilized its vast computational power, weaving a powerful logic chain of data to counter the Necron's self-destruct protocols.

This immense data link temporarily trapped the Necron's core processing in a logic loop.

The Necron's body convulsed violently, sparks of green electronic fire flashing erratically in its eye sockets.

As its logic core malfunctioned, the most fundamental of all Necron protocols, the Reanimation Protocols, seemed to activate under the influence of some unknown force. Faint shards of a soul were gathered and, under the guidance of Axis's ki and the purest Psuchic power, began to coalesce into a spiritual entity akin to a machine spirit.

The instant this unique spiritual entity formed, a brilliant golden light erupted from the Necron, completely overwhelming its original green luminescence.

The Chronomancer's cryptic self-destruct protocol was erased and overwritten. The moment it completed its rebirth, the Necron immediately purged its own self-destruct protocols.

It had developed a will of its own.

According to the standards of the reanimation protocol, its original form was now considered 'destroyed'. A Tomb World should have been constructing a new body for it, ready to inject a backup of its engrams to activate it.

However, the dynasty's Tomb World had been destroyed.

Even if it had Reanimation Protocols, they could not be activated, nor would this new being allow them to be.

Activating the protocol would mean reimprinting a memory backup, essentially creating a copy of itself. Now that it had been born with its own soul, it was an independent individual.

"Truly, a marvelous sensation. I have regained a soul, yet it is not a soul as we once knew it," the Necron Chronomancer said, bowing to Axis, "Great being who has granted me new life. I, Grandu, greet you."

In a sense, he knew he was merely a specialized machine spirit in service to the person before him.

Though he had gained self-awareness and the concept of a soul, he was now this man's slave, subject to his control.

Still, the pride of a Necron would not allow him to call another being 'Master'.

"Call me what you wish. Lord Axis is fine," Axis said, "Are you resurrected, or something else entirely?"

Through his psionic senses, Axis could now easily control the being's life or death.

This Necron, whatever the new entity was, a proud one, it seemed.

"Lord Axis, in the strictest sense, I was born today. I am a new life, created from the body of this Necron, with the engrams of the Chronomancer named Grandu, by your formidable powers. Essentially, I am neither Necron nor Necrontyr," Grandu explained.

Though he possessed a soul, he was not of the Necrontyr race that had been, nor the soulless Necron constructs they became. He was a unique, superior machine spirit born of Axis's power, an independent individual, not the resurrection of something that came before.

"So, do you intend to keep the name Grandu?" Axis asked.

Just as he had said, this was not a resurrected Necron, but a new lifeform that simply possessed another's memories.

"I was created with his memories as my foundation, so I shall continue to use this name," Grandu replied.

"I don't care about that. What I care about are your abilities," Axis stated plainly, "Can you produce living metal for me? Can you provide me with Necron technology?"

This was what truly mattered to him. Otherwise, he would never have expended so much effort to convert a Necron.

"Lord Axis, if you desire the formula for living metal, it will be exceptionally difficult," Grandu said, "Among the Necron Dynasties, the secrets of living metal are the most heavily guarded. Only the core techno-magus of a Tomb World would know it. Furthermore, to refine this special material, you would need an entire Tomb World, at least one belonging to an Overlord, or a small Phaeron's domain."

Living metal was the core secret of the Necrons. Nearly all their technological creations were forged from it, so the security surrounding it was immense, and its refinement was incredibly complex.

"So you're saying if I want to create living metal, I need to conquer a Tomb World belonging to a Necron Overlord or a minor dynasty?" Axis surmised.

"It is not that simple, Lord Axis. The complications are many," Grandu replied, "You would still need to find a way to crack its systems and obtain supreme command authority over the Tomb World."

"If I were to conquer a Tomb World, could you help me gain that authority?" Axis pressed.

Grandu let out a humorless, mechanical laugh. "Lord Axis, look at me. In the eyes of all other Necrons, I am merely a monster wearing a Necron's shell," he said, gesturing to himself.

Necrons emanated a green glow, whereas his core radiated a golden light. He was a gilded metal skeleton, an anomaly among his green-lit brethren. Gaining supreme command of a Tomb World was no easy feat, and a Necron Overlord was a formidable foe indeed.

"So you're not much use to me, are you?" Axis said, rolling his eyes.

"Lord Axis, I am not entirely without value! I possess a vast wealth of knowledge concerning warfare. I fought in the War in Heaven sixty million years ago. Do you know of it? It was the war waged by the C'tan and the Necrontyr against the Old Ones. I know of many marvels and mysteries of the universe. I can serve as your advisor on matters of military strategy, galactic history, or cosmic phenomena. You need only ask." Grandu's tone became almost sycophantic. He feared Axis might destroy him out of dissatisfaction, and having just been born, he had no desire to die.

"Enough of your prattling.

"I have your first task. If you cannot complete it, you will have no value to me, and I will dispose of you," Axis declared.

"Wait! Lord Axis! I also have mastery over phase-teleportation technology!" Grandu interjected hastily, "I can use my knowledge to develop special teleportation equipment for you. Not psychic teleportation, but the phase-teleportation of the Necrons."

Compared to living metal, phase-teleportation technology, while advanced, was not guarded with the same level of secrecy.

"No more excuses. First, examine this device," Axis said, producing King Vegeta's strongbox, "It is a special kind of lockbox. I need you to open it without damaging the contents."

This was the one item he had brought from the Dragon Ball world that he had yet to fully utilize.

It was some kind of spatial device, but its contents remained a mystery.

"This, I can assist with," Grandu said.

Having inherited all the data of a Chronomancer, unlocking a simple strongbox was hardly a challenge for him.

The Necrons had pushed the physical sciences of the universe to their absolute limits. Collapsing stars, controlling black holes, manipulating time and space, trans-galactic communication, and faster-than-light travel were all trivialities to them.

Two beams of light shot from Grandu's eyes, scanning the box and analyzing its data. A few minutes later, the newly born Necron had completed his work.

"Lord Axis, this is a special spatial storage item, but its security measures are not very sophisticated. I believe even your human level of technology could unlock it, given enough time," Grandu reported.

He had expected some arcane piece of high technology, perhaps some cryptic artifact of the Old Ones.

But this was it? The technology involved was rudimentary, merely a minor spatial-folding technique for compressing large items.

The Necrons had mastered such technology over sixty million years ago. It was, at best, a civilian-grade storage device.

Even humanity, at its peak, could have easily produced such technology. As for the lock, it was a simple numerical passcode.

The task presented almost no difficulty at all.

"Just open it," Axis said. He was excited, "And don't damage anything inside." He prayed that King Vegeta's strongbox would not disappoint him.

Grandu nodded and tapped a few keys on the box's surface. His initial scan had already cracked the code.

He found it almost quaint. It did not even have genetic identification. What low-level civilization had produced this?

With a soft click, King Vegeta's strongbox opened.

Axis immediately activated the spatial device within, releasing its contents one by one into the large hall.

The first object to appear was a circular starship, approximately thirty meters in diameter. It was a high-tech vessel, a flagship model used by the Frieza Force and reserved for its leadership.

Its flight speed far surpassed that of the common spherical attack pods, as it was equipped with a much more advanced FTL drive.

The ship was also fully stocked with a large supply of combat armor, energy blasters, and other weapons.

Axis turned his attention to the other items.

In a large crate, he found several enormous sniper rifles, each nearly two meters long.

He remembered King Vegeta attempting to use these very weapons to assassinate Frieza and his father, only to be effortlessly detected by their scouters and eliminated in an instant.

The power of these rifles was still considerable. It was well-known that Saiyans rarely used weapons; any weapon they deemed worthy of use was typically of a superior quality.

For King Vegeta to think he could assassinate the likes of Frieza with them spoke volumes about their destructive potential.

Excellent. These were good. Axis wondered if one of these could take down a Primarch.

Besides the rifles, there was a giant, golden pillow.

Axis examined it carefully and discovered, that it was nothing more than a ridiculously luxurious pillow.

Damn it, the most comfortable pillow in the universe, was it?

King Vegeta, you son of a bitch, couldn't you have collected something more valuable?

Axis was speechless.

Even the Chronomancer at his side seemed perplexed. The previous items had been practical, but a pillow? What was this?

Axis looked at the last two items.

One was a cloth sack filled with small, red seeds, slightly smaller than the seeds used to grow Saibamen.

Were these a new type of Saibaman seed? King Vegeta did not seem the type to collect such things. There was no description, leaving Axis completely in the dark.

The final object was a round crystal orb.

Inside, a violet energy swirled, and Axis felt a deep sense of unease emanating from it. It felt dangerous. It felt as if this thing could easily destroy him.

Atop the orb was a round button, suggesting it was some sort of device. Was the violet energy its power source?

Axis focused on the item's description. His eyes widened, and a cold sweat broke out across his skin.
